Yay Tom!
question:
I notice you've been posting the comic on Graphicsmash earlier than usual this week. Is that going to be the new schedule, and if so what time do you post it? I live in Malaysia and usually get it at 2 in the afternoon (Until this week, that is.)
Once again, congrats. You should have won a few more.

The earlier posting could be because of daylight savings.

Oh. Right. We don't have that here so I wouldn't have noticed that. Thanks.

(It's started in the US, actually. On March 9. I don't know why the switch to an earlier date, though.)
EDIT: Of course, Tom lives in England, as far as I can tell, so I guess that wouldn't affect him... (whoops. Duhh.)

Graphic Smash and my comic's main site are both hosted in the US so they are subject to any changes in American time.

I don't know if this has been asked before. So I ask
How tall is Eglamore?

Pretty tall, I'd wager. I haven't had the opportunity to measure him.

okay, seeing as I didn't see this asked anywhere, I guess I'll take a shot at it.
You told us that Kat and Annie are 12 or thereabouts, but how old are Eglamore, Anja, Donald and Jones?

... XP I can't seem to say anything right, can I? Actually, I forgot to add Donald. Don't really see him so I generally forget he's there.

Tom, what other webcomics do you read? Starslip Crisis, Achewood, Overcompesating, PVP, Penny Arcade, Scary Go Round, Heliothaumic, and Girly. I'm sure there are others I chek up on now and then.

I've actually never heard of Heliothaumic. What's it about? It's still near the beginning so the story is just getting started, but it is a sort of slice of life set in a well made fantasy world with elves and magic and stuff like that. It's a rebooting of The Midlands which was also great. I should also mention it is an adult comic.

Hi there, Tom. It's me again, from page 21 from this thread. I've got the right materials and stuff for the Jacket, but my only last question would be concerning the front of the Jacket. The lines on the front... what would they be, exactly? A Zipper? Velcro? Buttons? This question have been quietly stabbing my ankle for the past couple of days. . I'd imagine it would be buttons, just because it wouldn't restrict so much, but from the scenes you've drawn where the jackets are visible, I haven't seen any buttons at all.

I imagine it as a heavy duty zipper that is hidden under the seams when closed. Kind of like this: www.americanvintageclassics.com/picsd/3635.jpgThe horizontal pattern up the front I guess would just be decoration that lined up when the zipper is closed.

Hello Tom! First time caller, long time listener. Congratulations on the success of GC and the release of your second book (or GCv1.1?) next month. I really enjoy reading GC and now that the basic premises of the world are out and the main characters have been established I hope for even greater things. An old-school comic book morality play or two in GC style would be nice. I love those. I'm also very fond of the highly conflicted Mr. Eglamore and I enjoy watching Antimony unintentionally tug him in three directions at once. You work those subtle facial expressions well.
There's been something that I've been curious about for quite a while. You're not selling GC products. Maybe I'm perverse and/or corrupt but I expect such things these days.
After much searching (because I'm new to the forums if not the comic) I did finally find the T-shirt test topic but it appears that these did not ever reach production. Those all were very nice T-shirts, by the way, but I'm not sure any of those captures GC completely; your webcomic has a unique visual look and an intelligent feel (bless you for not talking down to your readers and spelling everything out) that full color on black would probably better express. In any case, it'd clearly be easy to make some money in the usual product tie-in ways. Actually, I think you've created a highly marketable property here; I could see GC being adapted for other media at some point in the future. The high concept writes itself and J.K's lucrative success with Harry P. doesn't hurt your future prospects in the US a bit.
My question is, "Why aren't you selling GC things?" I'm pretty sure you like money. Money's good for lots of things and it's fun to look at. It would also make the fans happy and promote GC in realspace. Are you worried that the demands on your time and brain will snowball, or maybe that if you bring other people or merchandising concerns in that you'll lose creative control?

Interesting question... Actually, I find it hard to imagine people running around in Gunnerkrigg shirts. Also, creating merchandising that isn't generic predictable and boring isn't easy and even if you got a nice design, you still have to find someone to actually produce the shirts for a reasonable price.
I wonder what Tom will answer.
