Oh, the history.A shrine to unrequited love? Diego, huh? The picture explains a lot about the robots and the bullfighting theme really. Also, Reynardine is being a jerk again, and Shadow 2 aint lookin' too happy about it.

On the one hand, Rey's can be a jerk and he's liable to assume the worst about others.
On the other hand, he may have been around to see what happened between Jeanne and Diego firsthand.

Does Diego remind you of BoxBot?

It is nice to see Reynardine dominate the conversation once every so often. He may have learned that looking "majestic" and having a poker face will help him to be taken seriously even if he is saying something the girls don't like to hear.
I wonder if Reynardine was too prideful or just cautious by retaining his larger form while passing that tunnel.

They might even have been brother and sister. Rey's just assuming the worst.

They might even have been brother and sister. Rey's just assuming the worst. He is not assuming the worst that could have happened, just assuming what is more likely for a cynic given all the pompousness of this ceremony. There are far more morbid possibilities. If anything, this assumption at least is comprehensible given how obsessive this act of worship looks. Now, this is getting interesting. If Robot's role is that of the hero Diego could not be, who is the "Robot Bull" representing? (*Heh. monkeybucks beat me to this question.)

Diego is the father of that spanish girl Mort scared way back when, who will be more relevant to the plot than anyone realised at the time.
Or not, I don't know.

He's dressed like a matador in the portrait. Maybe he was actually a badass who just looked harmless, like certain stuffed toys or PE teachers or schoolmistresses we know?

Look s partly like a tomb to me. I wonder if the ghots body is there.. I agree. The shrine is behind a gateway that's large enough to be from a King Kong movie. But the actual passage is so small you have to crawl through. And it has been walled shut. Why? As far as Rey is concerned, I think he's actually not really being a jerk this time. He's just being a forest creature. I'd like to remind on something Jones said. In the animal kingdom, the strongest, biggest, prettiest male will get all the females, or the strongest, biggest and prettiest female will pick one of her liking, respectively. But then, similar things can be said about human society of course. Kat, on the other hand, is a hopeless romantic, firmly believing that love can penetrate all barriers (No surprise, what with herself having a crush on such a strong, big and pretty male like Eggers... ;D). Which is of course true, but the emphasis here is on can.

We should start a betting pool for how Diego and Jeanne were related. (that's a terrible idea because it's both stupid and every choice would be very wrong).
In any case, I wonder if Diego killed Jeanne in a fit of jealousy/confession-of-love-gone-wrong/awesome sword fight.
Or maybe she actually liked him, and I'm wrong as usual.
Also, gaia, Eglamore never struck me as harmless. Dude's upper body is like as wide as Kat is tall.

ummm question: if this is really Diego's shrine then why in the world would he have put a picture of himself in there?? Something's still missing from this picture...

Actually not as wrong or bad as you think. That could very well be a lead to a great storyline of struggle and acceptance. I remember when i was in highschool i was shown an anime about incest, i was turned off at first, but the story was really deep. I got interested and starting reading some more stories like that, half the time its pulled off bad, the other half its great.

Look at the fifth panel. Are the lice jumping from Reynard to Kat, or from Kat to Reynard?

Look at the fifth panel. Are the lice jumping from Reynard to Kat, or from Kat to Reynard? Neither. It's drops of spittle and/or sweat from Kat, who's being outraged by Rey. It's a way to depict the agitation of a drawn character. Also seen here (5th panel), for example.

Reynardine. Would. Not. Have. LICE!
They're clearly jumping off of Kat.

If Rey's assessment of Jeanne and Diego is correct (or even just close) then this would be the second time that the previous generations' messed-up love lives have affected our protagonists. (The first, of course, being the James-Anthony-Surma love triangle.)

Hey everyone!!! Long time no post... dammned job...
Anyway... why are you all so against Rey on this one... sadly, we as a society still put too much on looks... and definetly a girl like Jeanne wouldn't look twice on a guy like Diego; Kat is being a teenager on this... and for who has she fallen for? Big hunky Eglamore? Cool-Ally? pleaaase.
Also, form their clothing, they seem to have lived some time ago... so even easier for an unrequited (mispelled, I'm sure) love to happen... social status, money.... you name it.
I'm sorry, but I think Rey is just being realistic... and making a good guess... hidden shrine, shuted door...
ALSO, is this what Anja was thinking they were going to found out about???

I do wonder just how long ago Jeanne and Diego lived, since their clothing appears to be from different eras. Jeanne's clothes seem Elizabethan or Northern Renaissance, while Diego's attire seems late Victorian at earliest.

Besides the father/daughter and brother/sister things, there are several possibilities that Reynardine might be overlooking. The portraits do not have to be from the same time, and Diego could have been less of a "runt" in his youth.
We could be looking at Jeanne in her 20s and Diego in his 50s. Maybe she died young and it was only after some time (regardless of whether they did or could ever have had any kind of relationship) that he had the skill or resources to set up a bot-shrine.
Diego could have been a former headmaster of the Court and Jeanne could have been his Jones, towards whom he felt great respect and affection.

I love tom's comment.
I agree with Rey presuming that Kat's conjecture in panel 2 is correct. It seems a little odd that a person who made such a shrine would put a picture of themselves in it too, regardless of the nature or purpose of the shrine.
