Is Jones going to meet Kars-like ending?

Random thought: How much heat would Jones generate when she came back down? Enough to start a forest fire? 'Cos I can see a whole other kind of evac being necessary if she lands in Gillitie and it begins to burn.... I think I remember that Jones does at least somewhat equalize with extremes of temperature (based on what her hair was doing back when she was in lava) so she will heat up from the friction (and her clothes will disappear, oh noes) but she won't burn or lose any Jones-material from reentry... So just guessing but I don't think she'll create a big fireball when she impacts all else held equal. She'll just be hotter than normal for a while. And she won't create a big crater but she will dig down pretty deep unless she hits water. Let's see if the cops will buy, "My clothing disintegrated when I fell back to earth" as an excuse. Pretty sure I couldn't get away with that.

Could indicate she is being lifted in a relatively mild way. Or Tom wants the comic to stay approved for all ratings.

Well, we know Jones can generate near-limitless force.. I wonder if that translates into speed? i.e. can she throw her jacket away fast enough in one direction to generate a significant amount of momentum for herself in the other? Or maybe she'll just compress her lungful of air and fire it out..
Or maybe Tony will just send his microsat over to give her a hand back down

How much of orbital mechanics does Ysengrin understand?
Jones just got sent straight up: she's not in orbit as she didn't gain any additional angular momentum, she's just going to come straight back down anyway. Could take a little while depending on how fast she was thrown so she will be out for the rest of the chapter I'm sure.
On re entry I expect she'd land outside of gillitie due to earth rotation. Atlantic ocean somewhere?

The earlier Fifth Treatise also shows Microsat 5 (?) hovering above the Earth in analogous construction to Jones' symbol...

I wonder if Ysengrin took the time to calculate the necessary speed and trajectory for a stable, long-term orbit, or if she'll come plummeting back to earth in like, 5 minutes.

If we're talking physics, she going to head back down. If there's some Etheric ambiguity in the mix, then Randy Disaster is going to be heartbroken, and desperately looking for a space ship.

Jones: "welp, this is happening." Assuming she's being shot into space, in a weird way, I'm kind of happy for Jones. She gets to experience something new! But oh geez, I hope Tom isn't going to "kill off" Jones by making her float in space for a few eons. Now that I'm getting to see her in space, I'm kind of happy for her, too! I hope she's read enough physics books to figure out how to get down, though. If she wasn't launched with any angular momentum, perhaps she could even use this to her advantage and launch a surprise attack on Coysengrin on her way back down.

I get the impression from her x-rays she's just one solid humanoid mass. but then how does she speaksaw a lot of this on the main page comments, along with some YEET nonsense, but not on the last the that I noticed.

The more I look at panel 1, the more I'm convinced Jonesy wasn't launched straight up, but at a certain (under 10 degrees, perhaps) angle.
When (and if) she is doing any re-entry and landing shenanigans, it won't be anywhere near the Forest or the Court.

The Earth has had Jones since it was created so I've always wondered if there's been some deeper connection between the two of them. Wildspec: Jones being in space might have consequences beyond her personal conundrum of being stuck in space or the more widespread catastrophe of her reentry

The force that launched Jones up would have to chance force direction to make an orbit. if force is only in one direction then choice is either reentry (eventually) or keep going further and further from earth. (In less than a year she could orbit the sun in opposite direction to rejoin earth, while close pass near moon, or another planet could do all sorts of things) If straight up and then down then reentry speed may not be so bad, we have had human parachute jump from 135,890 feet up and survive, which could be higher than Jones is. Jones to degree can "fly" down, adjust her body position to slow down or aim for a target, and while she will probably get faster than speed of sound for a bit, she will likely slow down after. Speed skydiving is a skydiving competition, sanctioned by the International Speed Skydiving Association, in which the goal is to achieve and maintain the highest possible terminal velocity. It was developed in the mid 2000s and is the fastest non-motorized sport on Earth. The speed achieved by the human body in free fall is a function of several factors, including the body's mass, orientation, and skin area and texture.[1] In stable, belly-to-earth position, terminal velocity is about 200 km/h (120 mph). Stable freefall head down position has a terminal speed of 240–290 km/h (around 150–180 mph). Further minimization of drag by streamlining the body allows for speeds in the vicinity of 480 km/h (300 mph). --- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_skydivingIt is possible that like in an invisible hand, she will simply be held up there above Gunnerkrigg court till chat with Annie is done, then dropped down again near Annie.

Maybe seeing herself the earth from space is just what Jones needed to unlock her next power set.
