Actually, pre-Jeanne, the lack of a bridge didn't seem to be an insurmountable obstacle. Both sides have flight, one has a teleporter too, so it's definitely more symbolic than anything. And many forest creatures are really good at climbing... The shadow men might even be able to just glide up and down the ravine walls, as long as they can slip from shadow to shadow.

When one bridge closes, another one opens. It's a well known proverb, "When God closesa door, he opens a window" It's only a little less known proverb "When a forest god (or rather a fusion of two) closes a bridge, he (they?) opens a dam"
