I predict that Surma will introduce Tony to Ketrak during this trip. Could be this is where she meets Ketrak. Makes sense to me.

Tony is laughing! He's laughing at Surma but he's laughing. That makes him more relatable, right? Then again maybe not. Once Tony regained his Spock-like demeanour he informed Surma that, regrettably, he would now have to kill her.

Could be this is where she meets Ketrak. Makes sense to me. Her reaction makes more sense if she's already met Ketrak.

Or if she, like most people, is not interested in insects.
But I am surprised as well she apparently deals with etymology in the Forest all the time.
Another thing, did anyone notice Tony's hair seems to change when he is laughing? I say it is a metaphor for how he suddenly seems less stiff and more relatable to Surma.

So the thing Surma deals with in the forest all the time is not bugs, but...the study of the origin of words. Huh. Surma and Tony must have been incredibly not talkative during the whole trip here if Surma's only figuring this out just now. Possibly learning languages of the creatures, who may not all speak English? Of the various Guides? Alternatively, take "into the Jungles of Brazil" as the focus wherein we're thinking about the challenges of the terrain, and Surma is equating those challenges to being in Gillitie?

I predict that Surma will introduce Tony to Ketrak during this trip. Oh, man... if Tony does the whole "pin the bugs" thing it really would make sense for Ketrak to appear! I'm imagining an incredibly awkward situation where Ketrak shows up to repeatedly take pinned bugs into the ether, and Surma desperately tries to ignore his presence to avoid weirding out Tony, which very quickly backfires.

So, how many times have we seen Tony laughing, now? Are we up to one? He did - bitterly and while alone with Donnie. But it's probably the first time Surma sees this rare event. Oh, man... if Tony does the whole "pin the bugs" thing it really would make sense for Ketrak to appear! Killing Jar. Pinning happens later. I predict that Surma will introduce Tony to Ketrak during this trip. Could be this is where she meets Ketrak. Do you really think she managed to live this long without being around an insect death even once? Another thing, did anyone notice Tony's hair seems to change when he is laughing? I say it is a metaphor for how he suddenly seems less stiff and more relatable to Surma. But does not quite go up. Yet.

Also, prediction for the next page: Surma is so shocked by seeing Tony laugh she concludes he must have brainwashed himself to be able to.

Tom is really working hard on this storyline, because Tony gets like 10 times hotter in those bottom two panels. I do think the hair and laugh have something to do with it. Prediction: Ketrak is not only a psychopomp, but also a kardiopomp! It also may explain why he is the first pomp we see visit Annie since Surma's death, and an additional reason why he is a frequent visitor. What if he considers himself her godparent? Hahahahahaha

Tony is laughing! He's laughing at Surma but he's laughing. That makes him more relatable, right? Then again maybe not. To be honest if someone had told me the same thing after agreeing to travel with me for a month I would have laughed to tears. I would laugh really hard at myself if I did that. So maybe this can become more of a laughing with Surma than a laughing at Surma moment.

Do you really think she managed to live this long without being around an insect death even once? I've heard of weirder. But seeing an insect die ≠ Ketrak revealing himself to her.

Do Surma and Annie *need* for the 'Pomps to reveal themselves? Or are they simply already capable of seeing them due the nature of the Fire Elemental side of them?

Presumably they don't need the reveal; Antimony was behind Muut when she first saw him, allegedly her first encounter with a psychopomp. Unless he's making a big deal out of pretending not to notice her. But I suspect the first encounter was when her powers started manifesting, not when Muut et al started machinating.

Would you rather study Piraha or insects? The choice is yours. Pirahã has its own SCP designation.
