Who, as I do not tire to point out, has been conspiciously absent from the story for more than five chapters now. I still want to know why he did not come down into the ravine to help, and what he has to say to all this business! MSomeone probably mentioned this, but he is shown asleep last treatise (with a faceless Paz sitting next to him). Besides, how long would you say it took from teleport in/teleport out of the ravine? Maybe it was just un their lunch break...

I'm not sure that the Court had enough info about the plan to free Jeanne to make an informed decision on if they wanted to stop it or no. I agree. The court does track students, but they don't necessarily have them bugged to know the specifics of their plans. And the gang did go into the trouble of practicing and planning during off-times, when no grownups were present. And tracking doesn't necessarily means they could listen in. Juliette implies they knew the gang's location but not their plans, and didn't anticipate the date, which is telling they didn't listen to their conversation. And if they did know what it did it's etheric-related, which isn't really the Court's bag. Furthermore, Diego's arrow and Kat's tunning device are unique items. Nobody ever understood Diego's designs, which is the reason the old robots could not be replicated. As those robots created the code and mechanics for the court robots, nobody knew how their software worked and few bothered to engage in improving the hardware, as Robot states they build, repair and tend to themselves. Certainly, as you say, this is an etheric device, but I'd place it in the hybird category, where a "hard" device is enhanced (like Anya's computer) or the device manipulates the ether. I consider these far from "merely" etheric devices, like the blinker stone. To this moment, we only know of 3 people who mess with this kind of devices, as well as the power station and possibily the Omega Device. Juliette has a lot to win from pocketing Kat's loyalty (even if coerced) at this stage. And now I notice.... both girls are close to finishing their 11th year and will enter sixth form or go to have a job elsewhere.... Annie being claimed by the pomps and Kat being lashed by the shadowmen may be paralels to career paths for them. In the case of Kat, it secures her place in the Court, and apparently provides leeway and freedom of movement, as these two seem to be able to pursue their lines of investigation rather independently to other security agents.

I still want to know why he did not come down into the ravine to help, and what he has to say to all this business! My guess is Annie made sure he didn't know about "operation free Jeanne" because he would've protested (correctly) it was a stupid and dangerous plan. And as imaginaryfriend said he couldn't do much to assist anyway. Someone probably mentioned this, but he is shown asleep last treatise (with a faceless Paz sitting next to him). on the other hand, Rey *is* an ethericaly powerful demigod. He could rip off Annie's fire-ward appliqué, and had no problem tearing Hettie-shrimp to shreds. To the extent that Jeanne's power is etheric, he may have been able to fight her with some success and so been more than a just "meat shield". You're probably right tho; he would have been against the plan... too many failure points and unknowns.
