Please excuse me if this has been asked/answered elsewhere - IIRC it has been said Anja is Asian. Has it ever been specified which country she's from, and if not, what is it?

Does Ties take place before or after Gillitie and Gunnerkrigg began their 'permanent exchange program' (the 'program' Aly and the Suicide Fairies were involved in)? Did either of Aly's parents go to Gunnerkrigg Court as kids? Have any members of Gunnerkrigg Court's faculty ever become residents of Gillitie via the 'exchange program'? Has anyone uninvolved with Gunnerkrigg Court ever become residents of Gillitie via the 'exchange program'? If the answer to the previous question is 'yes', which is more common: Gunnerkrigg students/faculty becoming residents of Gillitie, or people outside of Gunnerkrigg doing so? 1, After 2, No 3, Yes 4, Yes 5, It's usually people who aren't students or staff at the Court. |

What accents do the main cast have? We know Surma and Annie's, but what about Anthony, Anja, Donald, Eglamore, Kat, and Jones? Right now I'm just giving them all (except Anja) an Estuary English accent, and somehow I doubt that's correct. Anthony = English Anja= Romani Donald= Scottish Eglamore = English Kat = Mild Scottish Jones= None |

Hm... not sure if this has come up before or not, but... Why is there a plaque in the school that reads "Dulce et Decorum"? The full line where that phrase comes from translates out to "It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country," which seems... like a very grim sort of message for a school to have hanging around. Is it just another of the Court's eccentricities, or is it hinting at a past war or something, where that sentiment was used to recruit? (Though I'd understand if you didn't want to answer that one due to spoilers) Or is it just a convenient thing to have in a part of the school where the resident ghost likes to hang out? It says "Dulce et Decorum est". It's Mort's plaque. |

Hey Tom, I saw the last ustream and noticed that you're using a pencil-style brush. Is that a dual brush or a brush with some other kind of structure? It's just a brush with low Flow and texture and other junk added to it. |

Hi Tom, I had a few questions for when you have time, if you don't mind. Do you currently do any creative writing outside of Gunnerkrigg Court? If so, what kind of stuff do you write? Do you think up a lot of things about the GC characters (such as elements of their backstories or how they might react in a hypothetical situation) that don't end up on any specific page in the comic, but do help you to get a better sense of your characters?
Have you ever considered using the Oh No Robot comic search engine for GC? You might already be familiar with it (Achewood and many other comics currently use it), but just in case you're not, it lets visitors to the site transcribe dialogue and action so that others can search the comic archives. With so many cool ongoing story threads in GC, I thought this might be a good way for readers to look back at past plot developments.

My guess is that they're speaking English because English is the official language of business and is therefore taught to most Europeans at a young age. In the United States, the earliest you can learn another language is in Middle school, andeven then you're limited to one language, but in Europe you'll start learning English as early as the 3rd grade. Look at Gamma. She doesn't speak a shred of English. If everyone was speaking English for the reason of translation from a foreign language, then Gamma wouldn't be speaking Polish in the comic. |
