It's like Annie didn't learn anything from their first trainwreck (over hair). I should point out that was only a trainwreck from Annie and Kat's perspective. As far as Red and Blue were concerned, it was an amazing, awesome, miracle that ended well for everyone. That's also pretty much how Chapter 36 (Red Gets a Name) went, and yeah I'll bet this chapter'll be the same. *sigh* Annie will never understand fairies, will she... She's not the only one.(However, I think Kat does.)

Just to change the subject... I noticed that the teacher Bugsy's outfit appeared brightly coloured in the ether, while the school uniforms stayed grey. I wonder what Red's outfit looks like in the ether. I bet it looks like "Lenin suit meets LSD".

That sounds like the reason to me. Only someone who already has a name can give a name to fairies. That would be my guess (coupled, as we see here, with a *crushing* sense of responsibility: a trait that fairies are not renowned for). After pondering this page for a day, I think you nailed the point Tom is trying to make even if we think fairies are not known for their sense of responsiblity. Giving someone a name changes reality. Humans force their will on reality, like it or not, for better or for worse, usually without thinking about it. The Foley students are learning to be human and it is difficult to transition from living within reality to changing reality. Red is only in her third year and still has a sense of responsibility for messing with reality that is holding her back. I think it is ironic that fairies may seem irresponsible while they are actually having a hard time adopting the casual attitude humans have about manipulating reality. We've seen how easily some of the Foley students can manipulate the perception of reality through an illusion. I guess they draw a distinction between perception and reality while humans consider perception to be reality.
