To me, the circle of long bones suggests Mr. Carver's bone antenna.

I'm getting a "Cut Off" vibe from Chapter 51's bonus page- "Cut Off"Let me explain. Eyes closed, a very still but evocative image, the end of what has been and the ushering in of some big but unknown changes. Also, I think both images are unsettling in their own way. Annie's because of what has just happened, Jeanne's and Green Guy's because we don't know what the repercussions are going to be. This is an amazing page, though. Tom's composition and storytelling skills are turned up to eleven when he draws pages like this. Nice catch! Further speculation: in alchemy, the alchemical process is meant to lead to an exaltation of being to its highest potential, and this process always begins with death (viz., the separation of the three main Principles). In Alchemy this first stage of decay is called “Putrefaction”. It may be that the arrow sent down by the Court to trap Jeanne and GG 'trapped' them in the alchemical sense, in that their bodies and spirits and intelligences were not allowed to separate. This bonus page may well be intended as a remark on their final peace, or death, insofar as their bones and souls etc might finally be separated. The circle of bones, though, is what gets me. Traditionally circles mean 'enclosure'. What if they're still not quite dead? I think the circle of bones represents Diego. He trapped them down in the Annan waters, and was dead for countless years before they were freed. It could be the abstract representation of his arrow and his negative emotions that drove him to create it in the first place.

Was not expecting this today. Creepy. What did happen to their remains, by the way? The gang just bipped out of frame, but Jeanne's bones were on the shore earlier, and GG's rose themselves up out of the water. Jeanne's also wearing a maroon one-sleeved dress, which may just be smart composition, but GG seems to have the same pants. At first I got the feeling that GG coming out of the water all happened in the ether but you clearly see Annie's face doesn't have the cut on it. Since we see his body transition from bones to a full body with a glowing light around it and then get into the boat I think we can assume his bones are out there floating in the boat on the water. Jeanne's would presumably still be on the shore somewhere.

I take the bones as just a symbol of death, and the picture is really so calm, even static, I don't get any "horror" vibe from it at all. The encircling arm and finger bones, like outflung hands (I don't see leg bones there), read to me like a protective hedge; they might as well be a hedge of thorny roses. The pelvis strikes me with its similarity to a "heart" outline, and the ribs to wings above it. And, to me, the skulls themselves, with their rounded backs than arcing down to a (twinned) point, makes a heart of sorts, which echoes the pelvis heart behind them. Really a lovely, if slightly macabre composition.
