The Drama! The Suspense! The Tragic Romance! The Smitts!
What will happen next? Will she regret her rash deeds? Will the Smitts get urgent medical care in time? Does he even need it (Probably?)? Would it even help (Hopefully?)?
All these, and more, next week on Gunnerkrigg Court

My immediate, overly sentimental, and most likely wrong guess is a ring he planned to give Jeanne. Huh. Still wrong, but I came a lot closer than I expected.

What's going on? What's the significance of the hair clip? What did I miss?

How the hell did he even get it, though? He was caged in an etheric prison. This is insane and only makes me even more confused.

What's going on? What's the significance of the hair clip? What did I miss? Maybe the hair clip symbolizes the return of something thought lost forever. The elf-man's life, Jeanne's humanity, Annie's mother's hair clip... Something from 'the other shore'

Smitty is obviously in pain but no blood showing as yet, and the shape of his chest looks wrong too. I'm still hoping for a lucky outcome here.
Elf guy keeps looking better and better, and he is obviously a gentleman.

Am I imagining things or does it look like Smitty has a protuberance around where the knife stabbed him?

Priorities: they're what's for dinner.
OK, now that the important hair clip retrieval is done, who's going to save Smitty's life? I mean, we have the services of a highly motivated teleporter here, it could be anyone. An entire ER department could appear within milliseconds.

Can we focus on the fact that Mr. Green looks more alive every moment? It seems like his flesh and skin are coming back at the second.

Given how much the court has hidden about its own history, I think that may be a worryingly thin book to use as protection!

So if the pin clip sank by unlikely chance into the hand of the skeleton, or was somehow drawn to it, maybe that's what gave Jeanne the impetus to visit the other shore and give Annie the scar? She's been reacting pretty strongly whenever something happened down by the skeleton.

Well, hopefully his heart is intact. If not, and he doesn't immediately lose consciousness, he's got about four or five minutes until his brain starts to go. If his heart keeps working, then they probably shouldn't remove the dagger. If it missed and hit his lung or some tissue, he's got a good bit more time considering how close he is to the court, IF the encounter is close to over. Which it may or may not be.
As for Jeanne and her beau... it's hard to tell what's about to happen, but it seems that her will to fight just fell off pretty hard.

I almost thought you were talking about the Green Man for a second, and my first reaction was to say "he's a few hundred years too late to be worrying about the brain at this point". Still, yeah, poor Smitty.

Literally "if it's not a part of the solution, it's a part of precipitate"? Well, maybe not Smitty still isn't bleeding. He is about to exhale pink foam or something, however. OK, now that the important hair clip retrieval is done, who's going to save Smitty's life? I mean, we have the services of a highly motivated teleporter here, it could be anyone. An entire ER department could appear within milliseconds. "Elfin Resources"? Possible complication: the dagger fused with cloth, flesh and bone when it became corporeal. Which is why it hurts a lot without bleeding. Then some Moonshine Elves magick is what it will take to fix - unless the Court keeps one of those Rust Fairies around "just in case". Can we focus on the fact that Mr. Green looks more alive every moment? It seems like his flesh and skin are coming back at the second. The last we have seen him alive he was shot by a marksman, so...

Okay, because Green Guy got trapped way before Annie even was born, he must have picked up the hair clip after being liberated from the arrow. (Or there must have been time travel shenanigans. I am not calling time travel shenanigans. Yet.) Which means that the hair clip is not the thing he held in his closed hand while trapped inside the arrow ( 1765). So we still don't know what, if anything, he held in his hand there. Also, apparently the hair clip must have laid really close by where he laid, or on the route between there and where all our friends are. Barely a minute must have passed since his liberation, so I don't think he can have made much of a detour. So our troupe of friends must be fairly close to the bridge.

Putting Smitts into the trap is now the only thing that will save him. The wound is fatal, but inside the trap, time does not pass.

Guys, the thing he was holding in his left hand was in the ether, so, it's still possible we haven't seen the last of that mystery yet. Blinker stone still could happen

Maybe it was Smitts' unprobable ways of not getting Annie to go full fire mode on Jeanne, and also the reason Annie is not freaking out about Smitty being stabbed ("Oh, how unprobable, my hairclip; must mean Smitty 's (powers are) okay.") I think it was already made clear that Jeanne was trapped close to the bridge, with her cutting Annie's cheek and all.

Maybe the hairclip fell down into his hand? Or maybe he could still move as long as he didn't try to dislodge the arrow and just didn't see a reason to do so most of the time?

Was Annie wearing this hairclip absolutely all the time before losing it? Is it another thing she got from her mother? It can actually turn up important in the "Annie putting herself together" departament.
By the way, if the green guy's regeneration is an effect of some kind of a timestop, then he's actually back to being properly alive again and it's pretty bananas. Complicates his and Jeanne situation quite a bit.

Went to look back through the chapter a bit, at first I thought maybe he had the hare's rubix cube, but that was noticeable and a part of the story. Then I realized it just said Story and not chapter, so probably was the hair clip... Very good catch!

I absolutely did not expect the clip that goes cliiiiip! Anyone who thought Annie and elf guy were coming to shore to join some kind of battle royale possibly isn't reading the same Gunnerkrigg Court I am though.
