Parley can see which way Jeanne's sword is moving. If she can bip to a spot where Jeanne's sword is moving away from her and her sword (whichever end she prefers) is about to hit Jeanne, it's good.
There is ALWAYS such a spot, except maybe if Jeanne isn't moving her sword very quickly. And that buys time.

She's going to try it a third time and get hit with a harsh setdown, I can feel it Almost guaranteed. Turns out we were wrong. Well, Tom specialises in subverting expectations.

In some cultures they'd say yes but I guess in this case the sword is part of the ghost. And I am sad that George isn't using the tooth to parry, since that would lead to part of Jeanne's sword being cut off the rest of it/her. And that bit of ghost-sword blade would be interesting for later study. You don't want to be waving subtle knives around indiscriminately. It can lead to worse things than rage ghosts, as you'd know from your Philip Pullman. <3 Philip Pullman <3 Love you for that reference!

Actually, what's bothering me on this page is that a physical sword can harm a ghost.

Actually, what's bothering me on this page is that a physical sword can harm a ghost. It's probably no worse than the ghost being able to kill people with her sword (which presumably is no more physical than she is).

I assumed she swung to kill their etheric body - the mark she left on Annie's face is only visible in the ether.

But Parley's side wound appears to be in the physical world

And previously, Jeanne was shown cutting camera drones - which presumably don't have etheric bodies - in half.

yes, odd... it would seem that Jeanne can choose to strike either to hit the etheric (eg, Annie) or the physical (eg, drones, Parley).
