Assuming the blue one dies, a guide will appear. What guide would be crazy enough to go down to that side on the Annan river while Jeanne the rage ghost is capable of killing guides? There were final recordings in the ROTD library for many beings Jeanne killed, including Lamet. Some psychopomps had to take them without being killed by Jeanne.

I think people need to remember that Jeanne can kill you in the ether too.
She's dead.

Or brain damaged. A rapier leaves very clean wounds, she might survive a rapier to the eye socket and through the brain.

We *might* find that, in reality, Jeanne has skewered Smitty's rolled up jumper or something but, no, it's not looking good for wassername. wasser would've been a great name for her

With illusion in the mix, the death may not be real, but her life sure is iffy. It looks like it go either way; illusion-breaking distraction or skewered skull. If Tom does go back to Annie on Friday, this would be a real cliffhanger. *bites nails*

They are going to get in SO much trouble for this. They caused the death of a student, even if she came from the forest it was very reckless of them.

Excuse my French but Oh fuck Red, now would be a GREAT TIME to manifest some KICK ASS POWER that's gonna SAVE EVERYONE'S LIFE. edit: Parley what happened to all that teleporting from several chapters ago?? Maybe now (definitely 3 seconds ago) would be a GREAT TIME TO START DOING THAT.[/b] edit 2: This whole situation is a mess. Abort? Y/Y[/quote] And Coyote's tooth sword.

Even though it seems like she's faking it because she's done so before it's just as likely to be real this time because because doing that was a regular habit of hers.
Also she was going to move up in her life, so it's dramatically ironic.

I think it would be rather cheesy if that blue jerk were to cheat death in this situation on a technicality like standing vs. kneeling. And judging by the first "panel", the rapier went clean through the brain stem, which is instantly fatal. It's a pity, she seemed like a rather nice fairy-person.

When Jeanne ripped through Picasso-face a few pages ago Robot underneath was unharmed because his head didn't match the face structure of the etheric illusion. Of course this didn't save him for long, and he doesn't have an etheric self to worry about. But I'm hoping to see something similar here; a bewildered Blue on the ground slowly baking away from Jeans ghost and the sword above her head.
C'mon Tommmm, don't cut away nooow!

the worst pagebut seriously, holy hell, Tom that's by far the goriest page in the comic so far this is nearly the first death on-screen I disagree, this page isn't particularly gory. All we have is a sword going through someone's face, sketched almost in the background. No actual gore. I think probably some of the pages from Tony talking to Kat's dad are gorier.

Gory may have been a misstatement. But having someone's face straight-up impaled with a sword? It's one of the more horrifying images in the comic. (Assuming it's not just an illusion, of course.)

The skewering of blue and the almost-instantaneous falling away of the illusion seems too linked. Of course it is, either way. I doubt her tsundere-fights with Red could truly prepare Blue for seeing someone just jump at her to stab in the face without as much as saying "hi". And she was already struggling to maintain it. Oh no,and she was just two days away from retirem... I mean, from getting a name! D8 Indeed. But at least she didn't show anyone her family photo, so we can hope. Anja and Annie are the only ones so reckless. Buuut, I doubt this is her actual death here. Sure, we've been primed with Robot's scene earlier, but remember, Red and Blue are only standing in the ether, they are kneeling on the ground in the real world. Or at least this is the hope that will tide me over until Friday. Also, she stabs at her own height. But she's non-corporeal. But the terrain is not what it looks like, too. Yes, there are enough of undefined factors to question what's going on.

I was consumed by a hope, a figment of a fragment of a dream, that he might escape Death's icy claws (so much sharper than My own, yes yes, I admit it) and be waiting for Me somewhere over the horizon. I wandered the earth, searching in vain for the sound of his voice, the touch of his fur, the gleam of his eyes. And soon I, who could hold the very moon in My jaws, was too weak to even stand. So I wept and prayed to the Great Spirit above, who holds dominion over the veil between the worlds - what the fools at the Court call the ether. And answering my prayer, he descended in the form of a great raven. Perhaps he was just a mirage. Or a delusion. (Or a bird.) I was very hungry, after all, yes yes. Not many wisps in the endless desert. He perched in silence, staring at Me. I shouted and cursed his cruelty. I screamed defiance at the heavens, and I demanded My boy back. And spent, I collapsed and waited for My own death. Perhaps if I could not find My son in this world, I would be together again with him in the next.I just (belatedly) realized that our friend CoyoteReborn and Mr. Tony Carver deal with emotional turmoil similarly. I...would not have guessed that. Food for thought.

Yeesh, it's all fun and games 'til someone loses an eye. At least Red and Blue are probably still sitting down in the real world, so Jeanne aimed too high to hit Blue's physical body. On the other hand, getting your etheric presence shish kebabed can't do you any favours -- I'll throw my two cents in the tin-foil hat on "Blue survives but loses her etheric abilities." (Also, I think you mean x.O )

So, that happened. Or did it? I'm inclined to believe it did due to the illusion falling away in the last panel. I can taste key lime pie...

Initial reaction: Holy shit! Gonna read through the thread more thoroughly in a sec... But the last time the fairies were shown in the real world, they were kneeling, next to Parley and Smits. Standing in the ether since they started to "follow." I would hazard a guess that they're still kneeling in the real world, and Blue is not being stabbed in the face in real life. I'm guessing this will cause Blue to die or at the least become disconnected to the ether, which will make her quality of life pretty terrible considering how much time the fairies spend in there. So if that's the case I'd consider it a death in a way. And who knows how much damange the mental wound and distress will cause. Edit: Buuut, I doubt this is her actual death here. Sure, we've been primed with Robot's scene earlier, but remember, Red and Blue are only standing in the ether, they are kneeling on the ground in the real world. Or at least this is the hope that will tide me over until Friday. Agreed, with you and west (nice avatar) and others. Losing abilities bandwagon. Blue will probably scream, Kat will hear this and activate her device.

Actually this makes sense if it's still an illusion, Red's reaction could help seal the deal and Parley can play the fight off as Fae tricks. That would be kind of a cheap cop-out.
