I'm surprised fire alarms and sprinklers aren't going off. Can you put out a fire etherically? We have already seen that etheric fire can be undetectable. Though Annie's wording makes it unclear if etheric fire is undetectable to machines by default, or if she needed to do something special. More science-y thought: unlike the cows (which detected heat sources directly), fire alarms typically detect *smoke*. As etheric fire isn't actually burning any fuel, it might not produce smoke. Annie does not have fine control over her flame abilities. It was not cold etheric flames that took out the play ground ball earlier in the chapter so I' wondering what's going on here.

Well, this isn't the first time her friends and/or classmates have seen her resort to fire, so I guess I'm not surprised at their calm reactions.

Come to think of it, even these guys in particular have seen her demonstrate pretty good control over it in the past. Guess they just don't know enough to be any more worried than :nervouslaughter: ?

I'm just realizing that Annie must have an excellent throwing arm to make this page happen, even if its only a ten pound ball. Though Annie's wording makes it unclear if etheric fire is undetectable to machines by default, or if she needed to do something special. How about Renard's wording to Kat, though? "It works that way because she wants it to," which implies that Annie actually has to decide what happens.

I think mine's fine, and the lacking quote came from whoever quoted me - mine looks fine when I check the BBCode, at least. I know zimmyzims and I edited our post, dunno if arf will, but here's what I see: [quote author="@daedalus" source="/post/128683/thread" timestamp="1455696241"]I concede the point, haha. My roommate distracted me.
[quote][a href="http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1633"]Renard's interpretation of bowling is on point.[/a]
Seriously, though, how does Annie not know how to bowl?[/quote]
Two open, one close. Dunno what's going on if it's fine on your end. Probooooards... *shake fist impotently* *cracks knuckles* Let's see what shows up on my side...
When I click Edit, this is what shows up to me: I concede the point, haha. My roommate distracted me.

It seems fine, with one open_quote and one close_quote. But then when I try to quote my own post, I get this:
[quote source="/post/128683/thread" timestamp="1455696241" author="@daedalus"]I concede the point, haha. My roommate distracted me.
[quote][a href="http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1633"]Renard's interpretation of bowling is on point.[/a]

I'm not sure what's going on, since that has the necessary two of each. Maybe it's the extra line break at the end, somehow.
*shakes fist at sky* PROBOOOOOOOARDS!

Seriously, though, how does Annie not know how to bowl? Why would she know how to bowl? Most people have never been to bowling in their life. I'm from Arizona; we all bowl to escape from the inferno outside. I guess I just assumed that everyone bowled as much as we did, heh (shrug)

Using the ether to knock them down is cheating. Don't even think about it, Annie. who am I kidding, you're going to try it anyhowYeah Annie has terrible addiction to cheating. School, games... hopefully not romance/love/marriage, if she even manages to get to it

Almost as cool as the Grand Canyon. Pennsylvanians bowl to escape the Amish (just kidding).

I think Annie should have a little chat with Monica Villareal about fire.
The question though is how Annie would get to Minneapolis, or why (not how) Monica would go to Gunnerkrigg Court.

The title for this one really should be "wow, no shit Rey". It does not appear anywhere on the page, so it is an illegitimate page thread name. I was being facetious. Unlike Rey, who really can be Captain Obvious sometimes. Of course Annie is aware she's meant to hit the pins, she's getting steamed because she's failing.

Of course Annie is aware she's meant to hit the pins, she's getting steamed because she's failing. But he's doing the sage wisdom thing, not the state the literal obvious thing. Unless I'm mistaken, he's trying to demonstrate the difference in throwing the ball at the pins, and following through as if you were pushing the pins by an extension of your arm that is the ball. He's doing the thing similar to what baseball players have to tell themselves: "Swing THROUGH the ball, don't just try to hit the ball or swing at the ball." Clearly it isn't a literal phrase, swinging through it would need way more power or to quantum phase. Same thing with what Rey's saying here.

As etheric fire isn't actually burning any fuel, it might not produce smoke. The bowling ball did appear to get sooty. Yup. Thus most likely fire alarms are adjusted to her presence. I think Annie should have a little chat with Monica Villareal about fire. The question though is how Annie would get to Minneapolis, or why (not how) Monica would go to Gunnerkrigg Court. The latter is already answered, isn't it?
