I don't know what makes me sadder: to see Annie still living in that prison, or the fact that the dull grey attire is part of her current etheric form Actually, her clothing has always been grey in the ether, because it's non-living and non-magical So that leaves only one thing to be sad about, hah. I don't like your example. It doesn't show that it isn't just special to Annie's clothes

I grabbed the first page I could find from the ether, sorry. Yours is unambiguously better, of course

Why does the second speech bubble in the second panel point away from Annie? It looks like it should be from Annie rather than Renard.

And then Annie made Kat spontaneously combust.

Waaaaaaaaaaait a second... it's only just occurring to me now...
Annie saw Kat through her vague, unfocused etheric vision, yes... but was she actually looking at KAT?!

Annie heard Kat (panel 3), but whether she saw anything before she pulled her attention out of the ether is not revealed. At this point Annie only seems to be able to ethereally see something really strong like Renard, and she said she can barely see Renard.

I'm sure he's drowning in ether much like his cousin.

Given this theory, I conclude that Kat did not developed an etheric signature after the events of the Torn Sea, her evolving robotic talent, or her relationship with Paz. All that happened before Anthony's return and I mention Paz because Parley's abilities appear to have been triggered by her relationship with Smitty.

I hold to the theory that Annie and Reynard would notice very quickly if Kat developed an etheric signature.... Alternatively, Kat has an etheric signature that hasn't changed significantly. I guess the absence of a distinguishing etheric signature could be considered a signature, just one shared with most humans. Alternatively, Kat has an etheric signature that hasn't changed significantly. Or Annie's not able to detect etheric signatures as she had previously The three events I listed seem like the most likely events to trigger a latent etheric talent. They all occurred before Annie and Kat lived together for the Summer when Annie had her full/previous ability to peer into the ether. Kat hasn't experienced anything like those events new since Anthony returned. I conclude that any etheric change in Kat would have happened before Anthony returned and Annie (and Renard) would have noticed very quickly if Kat had changed. Why has only Zimmy and Paz seen the Mecha Angel? Maybe the Mecha Angel is not etheric and they saw her through some other means. Maybe the Mecha Angel is etheric in the future, but Zimmy can't tell when she is seeing something in the present or future and Paz's glimpse was caused by Zimmy'S reality distortion.
