Okay, anyone who isn't sure what loving someone means? This little girl right here just showed us all how it's done. You go, girl.

How come she gave the arm two fingers (and no opposeable thumb) and not a full hand? I suppose it might be because Robot normally has two 'digits' for manipulators, but still.

He's keeping a calm face, but we all know he's screaming all kinds of feelings out on the inside.
You wanna become a Machine Deity, Kat?
'Cause this is how you become a machine deity.

Less than five pages in, and we already have the chapter icon. Should be interesting to see where this goes.

I wonder how it would work if an entire body was made out of this stuff at once? It doesn't look like there's any skeletal-style structure, at least initially, would it just lead to a floppy mass of muscle and mystery purple material? (of course kat could just add some structure in as she gets it figured out more, but it's an interesting thought that the same body type could potentially develop differently) IT KEEPS HAPPENING

Are you sure the chapter icon is new? I mean, I think I saw it on Wednesday or maybe yesterday...

Although it seems like it's supposed to bend like a normal arm, it really doesn't seem to have any structural elements. Also, I think Kat should stand back while Robot is trying to figure it out because that arm is probably going to flail wildly.

Starts out in some malleable state, and over time parts that are left unbent turn stiff while parts often bent turn into a rubbery sort of joint? Not sure how would that even work, but then again this is the kid who built an anti-grav unit out of a thermos and some coat hangars.

No exoskeleton? Yet a rigid structure? Truly, this is a new kind of life. (Also, recommence the Cute Hair Alert!.)

I wonder why Kat's focused on imitating biology to such extents. So far we've heard of two "downsides," pretty much: Robot will have to learn how to use the arm, and will have to exercise it. But I guess she's also listed an advantage: "[his] body will adapt to [his] needs." Of course, for the robots, simply becoming more like living organisms and human beings is significant, but I don't know why Kat would share that goal for them. When she was working on Robot's body before getting the flash of insight, she said it was too clunky and complicated. The new arm seems fairly complex as well, but maybe the goal is for it to be more adaptable, and to therefore require less specialization? It reminds me a little of Shadow's transformable body.
I'm also not sure what to think of her using Diego's magic-based language extensively in this project, when earlier she seemed to be disappointed in Diego's work because it took shortcuts with the mechanics.

I would say you hit the nail on the head when it comes to flexibility.
A LOT of the robots exist for the sole purpose of a single role, to which they do excellent. So why not make a robot that does a whole bunch of things at the same level, and continues to adapt and learn more roles as it (quite literally) grows?
It has some scary side effects if not kept in check, but the robots could and probably will learn to "manufacture" these new limbs and eventually start to grow and perhaps "birth" more of these biological robots. And they would, without a doubt, make the older robots look useless in comparison.
And then they, too, would enter eternal sleep in the chamber with Father.

Building a body, or software application, is interesting, but the real challenge is the CPU and operating system. Re-hosting existing Robot's CPU in new a body is a logical interim objective even though there is no indication yet that Kat has thought any further ahead. But the work Kat has done with this new interface/nervous system is the first step towards the brain/CPU. Kat will truly be a Creator when she can make a new CPU.

So why not make a robot that does a whole bunch of things at the same level, and continues to adapt and learn more roles as it (quite literally) grows? - That could lead to a lot of trouble, if Kat makes this widespread as they could also use it to fit new niches for them, such as fighting. Add that she is personally against creating restrictions/orders (without reason at least, see Renard) she won't think to put in restrictions against that I believe. Partly because she trusts S-13 here, who is one of the main problem elements within the robot community. I just have a foreboding feeling as S-13 is not exactly... Stable. And he is merely being granted more physical power and adaptability, while also getting more material to preach with... Kat really doesn't have much of a chance to not being turned via the power of the ether into an angel/god does she? Especially as her most ardent and fervent worshipper is the one get biological upgrades. And likely doesn't care about the dangers of doing so.

It does seem like the bots have been living a simple, uncomplicated, and pure existence in their Garden of Eden. And Robot is biting the apple of a new form of existence, which he doesn't understand will be complicated, impure, and irreversible. Kat really doesn't have much of a chance to not being turned via the power of the ether into an angel/god does she? Especially as her most ardent and fervent worshipper is the one get biological upgrades. And likely doesn't care about the dangers of doing so. I still question whether Kat will become the Angel herself, or be the inspiration for the Angel. I like to think that Kat is more like the coyote waiting for an easy meal than Coyote himself.

Watching these three; Kat, S-13 and Paz. Kat is happy because her research and work is bearing fruit with S-13. Paz is happy watching Kat succeed and being happy. That is looking like a healthy relationship. I'm not sure what or if S-13 feels yet, curiosity, hope, maybe gratitude? I am really enjoying this chapter.
I wonder where Shadow is?

(of course kat could just add some structure in as she gets it figured out more, but it's an interesting thought that the same body type could potentially develop differently) Some of the limb's material could be able to phase-shift. A 'gel' at its core might be able to turn selectively solid. That would allow the arm to act as a tentacle in some situations, and as a jointed lever in others. That would also allow the two 'fingers' to act as pincers or as a 'finger and thumb'. I see an infestation of those pesky pink moths again. How do they keep getting in here? Applying a lot of insecticide on the source often helps. Side effects include extreme cursing and occasional black-eyes, though.

I was wondering, why is Kat doing this actually? I fail to see how this is an improvement over existing robots. Seems way more complicated and without any benefit.

They could just make themselves new bodies to transfer to, just like Kat's doing for Robot. Good point. I just sort of figured that they'd want to retire and let the new age in. S13 is sort of an exception, what with being a nutter.
