Crossposted from thread 1558:
"There's another "program". It's what Donald and Anja use, and what Jack Hyland used, and what the etheric generator facility uses, to bridge the gap between the etheric and the material worlds in order to produce meaningful activity and generate effects. Hasn't anyone wondered why such a thing has such effects on what we think is "reality"? Gunnerkrigg Court and the Forest are somehow "hidden". Are they virtual? Is being expelled from the "program" tantamount to true, no-way-back banishment with loss of access to the etheric? What would that mean to someone whose very descent is part etheric? I can see a hint of "and if the fire dies, so does my last chance to being Surma back" in Anthony's tears in the last panel."
Is this bridging program (that might or might not be what "runs" the Court and Forest paradigm) the Omega Device?

Just recalling something... I can't get rid of the conviction that Kat is going to be involved in making Anthony a new hand, and it's going to be a very special new hand. Why else did we see so much of her efforts to make what I can only characterize as wet artificial limbs?

Why else did we see so much of her efforts to make what I can only characterize as wet artificial limbs? It could happen down the road. We have characters with the potential abilities to pull it off. But we haven't actually seen if this sort of thing will work. All the people involved would have to be in agreement for it to be attempted. File it in the back of your mind and watch the story unfold.

The real reason why the higher-ups at the Court are opposed to Antimony is that her prying around into things, often resulting in danger to herself and her friends, is too much like their own meddling with the ether (also endangering themselves and everyone else in the Court in so doing), and they don't like that echo of themselves.

The real reason why the higher-ups at the Court are opposed to Antimony is that they haven't heard back from their moon base in a good while.

I feel potential for a short term mime: The real reason why the higher-ups at the Court are opposed to Antimony is... because they think a girl's place is in the laboratory.

My wild speculation for the day: Donny is secretly one of the shadowy members of the court. It's all leading up to a moment where he declares: "Annie, I am your..friend's...father."

This adds the extra zinger that she only exists in a virtual world we know of as the Court. It does make me ponder the idea that a god in this virtual world is a program like the other virtual beings, either without the limitations programmed into the other virtual beings, or programmed with cheat codes that others don't have.

This might be ridiculous, or it may have been suggested a million times, but what if Coyote's tooth could separate flesh-Annie and her fire-elemental self? Would she be a regular human or die without her fire? Or are her selves already separated in this chapter (I'm not sure if the fire-elemental being outside her body is symbolism or literal). (But then, why would Coyote not want the forest denizens to know about it?)
Just something I've been wondering. Going to awkwardly shuffle away now.

Going to awkwardly shuffle away now. i would say that Annie and the Fire Elemental are already separated, by Annie's force of will and regular scissors. But others have astutely pointed out that they are both connected to the blinker stone so they are still at least indirectly connected to each other. Maybe Coyote's Tooth would completely disconnect them with possibly fatal results.

someone on the subreddit posted this: [...] Kat is a simulation being run by the computer. Free free to pelt rocks at this idea. Eh, why bother with stones? It's easier to vivisect this speculation. It's just reddit being... well... itself. What to expect from it? Taste for cardboard things like Star Trek, Matrix or Drizzt Soap box Opera. Here we see a recognizable to non-trekkies reference to holoderp?.. No need to send a bathysphere. I was just joking about it maybe being a secret hint for the story or something, didn't go as planned Despair not. Your sidetrack is not as lichen-covered as "coffee cup holder" jokes. It's just that the board is all covered in darts, and the first layer of darts is also mostly covered in darts by now.

More power to you, Tom, to continue surprising such a creative, intelligent, and involved fanbase. (Also, TBeholder, I like the new avatar.)

There was an "Unresolved Questions" thread, but I can't find it. So. What are Renard and Jones talking about on this page? I can't think of anything in particular that has been revealed yet. Just her service to the Court? That wouldn't make much sense, since Jones has been working for them longer than Renard has been there, and there's no reason they would have brought it up at that point.

She has been to Scotland, though. Is "the Court" confined to the vast forest and the equally vast industrial hellscape seemingly not physically located in Britain, or is it much more tangible? "Aha, a simulated Scotland!"

Donald Donlan is too good to be true. So without withdrawing: Randy Disaster is the final boss of Gunnerkrig Court. I add: Donald Donlan is one of the leaders of the Court, and will be the main antagonist in the last part of the comic.

Is Coyote going to wind up giving Annie one of his questionably effective powers?

Is Coyote going to wind up giving Annie one of his questionably effective powers? Just to set the record straight - or as straight as the record ever gets in my presence - my powers work fine when I use them. "For some reason", they just don't seem work work right when I gift them away, and harm their users in painfully ironic ways. Ain't that funny? I can't imagine why that would happen. *snickers*

More of an observation than a speculation: Foley. Forest people, in their own building mostly isolated from the rest of the Court, being taught by... other Forest people. That's not an exchange program, that's just a colony. I hope the Court have thought this through.

I think the fire elemental part of Annie also contains her passion. Fire is often used to talk about drive and motives, so maybe they had to be forcefully reunited for Annie to return to her full self. Once they separated, it seems like Annie also reverted to an younger state, not just emotionally but physically too. Look at the past several chapters and her physique and face both look visibly younger than before the Great Hair Chopping. This might be a stylistic choice or a visual trick involving body language and facial expressions, but I'm inclined to say that isn't everything. After all, the fire elemental looks visibly older than short-haired Annie. Also, Surya looked a little older than her classmates back in Chapter 22. Maybe it is the side effect of having an ancient fire entity inside yourself???
