Kat's antigrav unit is actually a piece of etheric technology. Kat subconciously tapped into powers utilized by her mother in order to make it work. She was only able to do so because she wasn't thinking too hard about it, though, which is the reason why she can't just make another.

I have no clue if this has been covered, but like
We know that if once a fire elemental gives birth to a child, they die.
Do fire elementals have to procreate with humans? Can they procreate with other elementals? If they could, would the resulting child just have a super strong flame? Or would maybe there be enough fire for the parents to not have to die? Or maybe it would just take them a longer time to die. Or maybe only one of them would die, and the other one would have to find someone else to have another child with so they could die...
And flip, I've made myself sad.

And flip, I've made myself sad. Try looking at it this way: If the flame that burns the brightest burns the fastest, then the converse is also true. And as long as it keeps being passed on, it never truly burns out.

It's better to burn out than to fade away.

Unlikely, I know.

That assumes that fire elementals procreate like humans. Perhaps where ever a great flame burns a fire elemental is born; when the fire ends so too does the elemental. Perhaps fire elementals just split in two when they get big enough. Perhaps fire elementals don't die out when they give birth to a pure elemental.
What we KNOW is that the passing on of life force is something that happens with human/elemental fusions and that such individuals are rare (for multiple obvious reasons).
The original fire elementals may or may not have such a defect. We don't know that yet. (unless some Word of Tom proves me wrong like an idiot)

I don't see it as a "defect". After all, everyone dies eventually; it's the way of life.

Antony sent Antimony off to boarding school AND GOT MARRIED AGAIN. I feel like that'd be even more depressing. Like Antimony just finds out that the father she missed just completely blows her off and decides to start a whole new family to forget about her. Of course, this point is moot since he did the whole bones-in-her-soul thing, but it'd still be depressing!

I haven't been reading enough in this thread to know whether someone else has posted this theory(someone probably has; I also wouldn't be surprised if this is the generally accepted theory) but:
Jeanne isn't technically dead. Hence why the psychopomps were unable to help her; they're forbidden to interfere with the living world.

Something I've been thinking about what with Mort being a central part of this chapter.
I put forth to you that Mort, being an OFFICIAL hauntster, was given a sort of container for his essence for the course of his duty. This protects him from what contact with the living could do (and the other way around). This is why it looks so goofy. It's just it's default appearance before any etheric tricks are laid down.
A ghost is just a wandering soul, and these souls look like themselves or some metaphoric approximation of themselves. Mort looks quite.. interesting for a wandering soul. He looks like a hokey Halloweeny ghost just like the decor of the ROTD. Furthermore, naked lost souls tend to be dangerous.. for both the living and the soul in question. They are often confused and not aware of their own abilities. Messing with the dead is ill advised for good reasons. Even if you know what you're doing, you could end up hurt.
I do not believe Mort is just any "Naked" wandering soul.

Like the idea, but it is not what she thinks herself, and probably Muut and the others would know that wouldn't they?

I was under the impression that her off-limits status was due to the Green Arrow doing something to jangle the normal mechanics of her soul, keeping her stuck there.

Yep, and we are supposed to find out what the arrow did in the current chapter. No success so far. I like the idea that her soul is somehow chained to that of her lover, and his soul bound to the arrow.

It's merely the largest (and also possibly oldest) unsolved issue in the comic.

It's merely the largest (and also possibly oldest) unsolved issue in the comic. The oldest is: what the hell is Gunnerkrigg Court? Not much speculation about it. I still have no idea who runs the place and for what purpose. Coyote is not helping. The only leader we know is the Headmaster, but GC is much more than a school. But I like the ROTD. I think there is only one person there, and he is actually a would-be actor. Hired to give the ROTD a face so to say. He rattles the skeleton, and mans the library's. As you can see he had to bring his own costume. The real ROTD is an entity in itself and makes sure that those with enough etherical ability, like Mort and Annie, see an impressive display. The entity exists, because people belief there should be rules and archives, even for the afterlife. (this is wild spec yes?)
