MORT IS SECRETLY THE GHOST OF ANNIE'S DEAD MOTHER.
also: Surma obviously messed around with Eglamore when Anthony was on his creepy leaves of absence.

The man by the Tree is both the "very nice man" and Anthony Carver. The tree is Robot's first arm....he was made by the nice man and sent to find Annie in the Court, but was caught and taken apart by Eglamore. Annie reconstructed him and sent him back, and history repeats itself. This probably happened with Surma a few times before Anthony joined the school to get close to her himself.
Each time Robot comes back to get another arm, Anthony uses a branch from an earlier one.

MORT IS SECRETLY THE GHOST OF ANNIE'S DEAD MOTHER. With very interesting (and unsettling) ramifications for Mort's crush on Annie. Definetely creepy. I think Mort is Anthony Carver and died when the Ghost of Surma (white lady with sword) killed his physical body.

Ew no no no. Mort is just a cute ghost with a crush. Maybe he can be related to Kat or something.

If the only thing that can pass the barrier of being dead is really strong feelings or thoughts then his crush may be a manifestation of a previous and exceedingly strong love for Annie, such as a father might have for a daughter.

Wild Speculation: The unknown girl in the picture is Janet's mom.

Nah. I think she's someone totally unrelated to any of the characters, possibly a student that died.

Maybe she is the person reynardine was inhabiting at that time.

Why do you say "a student that died"? Because A) We haven't seen her (at least I don't think so) B) it gives us something to think about, a little plot hole like the kind Tom loves so much. I really liek the idea that she was killed by Reynardine, that would set them (the adults) up very well for knowing who he is beforehand.

It would also explain why Eglamore really didn't want his friend that reynardine was inhabiting when we first met him to die, he had already lost one friend. It would also explain the fact that everyone seems to hate Reynardine.

I bet Eglamore has lost many friends, since this is pure [spec].

We are making sense, that means we are off topic.
I think that that Eglamore is a jedi, his glowy sword is a lightsaber.

Wait, what?
Wild speculation doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be totally crazy.

At this point it seems like the most wild assumption I can make is that the girl in the photo has absolutely nothing to do with the story and will never be seen or heard from again except maybe as a random cameo.
Ironic?

... it means rastarogue isn't as serious as you Aspen. Lighten up. (didn't Tom say that to one of the characters once?)

NO but as soon as it becomes as focused as we were it stops becoming wild and becomes tame. She could be somebodies Mom, but I don't think Janet, maybe Winsbury. I would explain why he is such a shithead.

Before this dissolves into flamewar within the next 5 posts... Yeah, randomness is fun. It's even good, especially in a forum like this where we're trying to figure out a lot of weird stuff and just have fun. I took offense (and for that matter, not even 'offense', it really was just a 'wait, What?!' kind of double-take like I said) at your post because I was really starting to like where we were going- it would have been better for me to just ignore yours and post a response. Like this: At this point it seems like the most wild assumption I can make is that the girl in the photo has absolutely nothing to do with the story and will never be seen or heard from again except maybe as a random cameo. Ironic? Not ironic, but certainly disappointing. T_T I'd feel let down by Tom.

You take things too seriously. It's WILD, not TAME.
Perhaps (just perhaps) the suicide fairies actually become teachers or other staff, not students.

The suicide fairies don't really become anything, they just die. It was all a scam started by the school because fairies are actually quite a nuisance. By starting this tale that when they die they get to go someplace really interesting, they triggered a wave of suicides that brought the fairy population back down to a manageable level.

It's worse than that. The suicide fairies actually become teachers. All teachers are either ex-fairies or ex-students. Doc Disaster is clearly a fairy.

Wild Theory Za: It's called Gunner's Crag / Gunnerkrigg because it's really a large military complex. We know that it is much more than just a school. WT Zb: The lessons taught by Dr Disaster are in fact military drills in disguise, preparing students for a battle we don't know about WT Zc: Reynardine was in fact a prisoner of war or a captured spy that used an ally's body to infiltrate the Court

Wild Theory Za: It's called Gunner's Crag / Gunnerkrigg because it's really a large military complex. A school for gifted children similar to the one in Firefly? Although GC isn't cruel like that. As for a theory... Maybe Annie is a lot older than she looks? She certainly acts it... The hospital where her mom died is in another dimension, which explains the presence of death gods? GC is a limbo stage between life and death?

The hospital where her mom died is in another dimension, which explains the presence of death gods? GC is a limbo stage between life and death? Oooh.. me likes it! Combine it with the Portal Theory I labelled WT Xa. Also, students are not allowed to leave school grounds. Muut said Annie should be thankful that Pale Lady could not cross. Edit: let's finish the train of thought: Gilletie Wood is 'the Otherworld' and Shadows are what we could call angels or demons. The Very Nice Man is... either god or the devil?

I would say god, and that the Illusion room, with robots arm, is actually heaven. Gilletie Wood is hell. GC is limbo. Where are the middle realms, where living people are? and what is Mort?
