Welcome to the forum! So, what about "Platinum"? Platinium? That's the only element who's Lucas-ing actually divided "the pond" that I can think of, though a bunch have interesting stories about how they were named and have competing/obsolete names.

but we're still struggling with switching to metric, so don't hold your breath. (But hey, thanks to high fructose corn syrup we finally understand liters. ) Speaking of technocracy (which I did a few days ago in another thread) the ASE-Metric switch argument's a good example. Since the mid-70s I've been hearing about how wonderful it'd be if there was an agency with the power to force the change onto the ISOs... mostly from people who'd never heard the term "sunk costs" and wouldn't care even if they understood how much retooling it would have taken. ...but I thought that was a fallacy. Slightly more on topic: '"Almost" hurt the people around me'? She has already hurt the people closest to her and not just Ysengrin. But it appears she isn't ready to admit that yet. The immediate reaction my trope-sensitive mental antennas gave me while reading today's page was that she was just thinking about the bunny boy-person almost-incendiary-incident a couple of pages ago (possibly a moment ago in comic time, no idea how long they walked in the forest after that), and might have realized ...the other things (about hurting people) when she said that last line aloud: "hurt the people around me ... oh"

If that arm is a result of 'almost' hurting someone I'd hate to see her definition of actual damage. Ysengrin deliberately provoked her rage. She recognizes that. And he did it by destroying something that was precious to her for reasons other than its utility (which, he was right, she no longer needs), and then made himself available for her retaliation. Also, she's seen him out of armor (and he knows it). She knows she never actually got to him.

But hey, thanks to high fructose corn syrup we finally understand liters. "Litres", s'il vous plox (French for "you barbarian"). Ysengrin: "You should be angry. If your dad can't see you're too cool for school, he's trash." Annie: "Sorry I was being selfish again . My situation is not important to you." ? ? ? He basically dismissed her internal processes, which to her are a tangible part of her situation.

She managed to dampen her flames fast enough so that when he grabbed her hand he wasn't burned. While Annie may have temporarily charred Ysengrin's wood-branch hand and arm his real body is protected by that green wood shell Coyote gave him. Ysengrin may consider the charred wood a badge of honor. It wasn't gentle, he forced Annie to reconnect with her fire. Annie had emotionally and spiritually maimed herself by cutting off part of her connection to her fire. Hopefully Annie can move forward and deal with some of the realities in her life instead of hiding behind a mask of disassociation. That sort of life style could make her crazy. We still don't know enough about the fire elemental heritage. Annie could have been slowly killing herself by cutting that connection. She's going to have to make peace with herself and learn how to control her powers. Or she's going to leave her surroundings and the people around her a heap of burn out cinders.

...but I thought that was a fallacy. What's "rational" varies from wonk to wonk. In economics sunk costs are by definition things that shouldn't be considered when making decisions because it isn't rational to do so but the ASE-metric switch wasn't economically justifiable once "irrational" but fiscally-real concerns were factored in about en mass retraining and mechanical changeover. It would've been similar to a Y2K despite the rosy predictions of the static models the proponents liked to cite. Also regulators dug the idea of a precedent for issuing massive nation-wide dictats. Then there developed a following of people in favor of the change who didn't know what the hell they were taking about but they liked to sound smart. They liked to label all of the training and plant & equip changes as "sunk costs" (note the quotes) because the models said the change was justified, therefore if you're still proposing holding onto ASE you're being irrational. In short, reality is complex. Economic models are simple. Therefore economic forecasts have to be revised every few months (sometimes even after they're past the sell-by date).

Except that the impression I've received so far is that Anthony isn't really driven (on his own) to control Antimony. He was manipulated into it by the Court, which presumably decided that it was better to act through him since: New theory: various faceless functionaries are animated mannequins. Anthony is probably in an uneasy state himself. "Probably"?

Anthony is probably in an uneasy state himself. "Probably"? Most likely. Antimony's just gone into the Wood for the first time since Coyote wrecked that building. But he could be in a drunken stupor somewhere. Low probability guessing by time of day but still...
