The separation has nothing to do with Tony. Annie just wanted a hug partner. (Apparently Renard doesn't count.)

Almost certainly the biggest troll chapter title since "Parley and Smitty are in this one". You think Tom might know we're desperate for answers? BUT does anyone think we're actually getting the answers we want? Besides, he knows his reader base and those of us on the forums very well, which is part of why he's such a great storyteller.

Obviously this means she'll turn to booze now. Called it!Instead of cookies, do you get bar nuts? The Fire just isn't Annie's. Perhaps, this chapter will have a flashback, and the girl in today's panel is Surma. Where is the bottle and cup located? It looks like Tony's place to me.

Perhaps the chapter image means that Annie will get to burn down Anthony's house and that creepy mono-white hall she is in.
Because you know what they say: "When life gives you lemons..."

Chapter icon. Obviously this means she'll turn to booze now. Well, we know what happened the last time she had some achewater. (Spoilers for Annie in the Forest Part 2) Fireworks and emotional breakdowns, that's what. Also, friendship.

Chapter icon. Obviously this means she'll turn to booze now. That WOULD be a twist. A sparky-yet-lemon-flavored twist.

I smeeelll ANSWERS
I doubt that the cover image is a depiction from a scene in the chapter. If it is, then it's stylized and symbolized. She looks like she was drawn earlier in the comic, which is a technique Tom used earlier.
As for the chapter icon... I don't even know.

The hungering fan in me is screaming "ANSWERS ANSWERS ANSWERS"
The cynic is muttering, "Great, another camping chapter."

This chapter probably features Renard starting drinking when he discovers nobody takes him seriously anymore due to his new form... I'm now imagining Puppy Renard as Bogart in The Maltese Falcon or Casablanca. I never knew this was something I wanted.

So excited to maybe get some answers maybe.
Apropos of nothing, has anyone else been wondering how Tom is eventually going to tie all of his threads together? He's got Jeanne and whatever the Court is doing with the Ether, Mecha-Angel-Kat, Coyote stealing memories, all this recent development with Annie and her heritage (not to mention the still open conversation she had with Ankou about pursuing a psychopomp role), Bunny-Boy... I feel like the plot has to continue picking up just so that Tom can finish this story sometime in the next twenty years. And yes, I have been re-reading it for the zillionth time, how could you tell?

Chapter icon. Obviously this means she'll turn to booze now. Looks like it's turpentine or something, by the look of it... "anything that burns"? I realize it's just brown glass, but the point stands - we can't see what's in the bottle, and some things need darkened glass. Guys guys, I know I'm just speculating, but I think this chapter will be about Annie. It might also be that there is some kind of fire involved. Maybe even a fire spirit! So... it will be a flashback from Surma? but there is definitely something more rebellious going on deeper down. How so?

Alright, so what I'm thinking, based on the signs I noticed: Annie cut her hair on her own accord to temporarily sever her elemental "side" from herself, since it was mentioned that being part fire elemental affects temper, and emotions in general. I don't think Annie was broken by Anthony at all, I'm gonna say she has some sort of plan, but keeps it to herself. A plan she can't carry out with her emotions running amok, especially since she literally has a flaring temper. ( I am a very funny person, you see.) I'm thinking cutting her hair isn't a foolproof way to achieve control over her emotions either, since it still "taking all of her energy not to break down."Furthermore, the fire elemental's whole form and distorted expression on the last page of the previous chapter all confirm this for me. The white-hot rage towards a father long absent, mixed with despair and confusion stemming from Tony's sudden return and cruel, new rulership. It was all oil to Annie's fire, and she could not handle it without creating detachment from the whirlwind of emotions in herself. Well, that's my two cents anyways.

I'm ultimately interested in seeing just what etheric capabilities Annie still possesses.

Chapter icon. Obviously this means she'll turn to booze now. The chapter icon could foreshadow a flashback showing how Surma and Anthony hooked up. Probably not, too simplistic and too realistic. I'm voting for this. Let's see what this is all about. Said Tom.
Cognac from an emal mug, btw. Now that's classy.

A thought I had today:
If Anthony had handled that date with Brinnie differently, he'd still have wound up with an etheric lady connected with fire - if in a different way.

Schlock Mercenary reader by any chance? One, he has Maxim 12 right in the signature. Two, Howard revisited the matter of complex relationship of Karl and Celeschul's "Special Assets" law right when you wrote this. The separation has nothing to do with Tony. Annie just wanted a hug partner. Of course. (Apparently Renard doesn't count.) Not that they don't hug occasionally, but she probably remembers that generally this counts as playing with the lid of a big can of worms.
