You know what Renard is now? He's a puppy fox. The crossovers... I tried hard to get into that comic and it just didn't stick for me. I should give it another shot.

The only serious analysis that I can make of this page is that this is the first non-canon bonus page involving the normal characters. Which is interesting.
I'm also going out and getting that last panel printed onto a shirt.

Seems an appropriate time to ask since Tom just plugged his Patreon, and maybe someone knows the answer to this: has Tom been recently doing the monthly streams? I've only ever caught one, where he was drawing Jack for a Patreon $50 commission (and I know he's done more than one), but has he done any recently? I don't want to miss them.

But I'll post mine anyway, at the risk of appearing derivative... tony fun time.png (614.07 KB) Times New Roman: The party font of choice for people who have matters to attend to.

I chose Arial after googling the "most boring font". You seem to have better eye for composition and colors overall, my awesome clone & lasso skills didn't quite convey the original vision, which you caught better. I wish there was a variant of magic wand that said "look, dunce, this black here is my outline, I want all the red around it transparent" or a fill that did the same kind of thing: "turn this red into grey, while blending with black at the edges". So tedious fixing the edges with eraser and then trying to redraw then back.

This means that closest we get on continuation of SUPER FIRE ELEMENTAL CLIFFHANGER is Friday. Noooooo you don't honestly think the first page of the next chapter is going to address that do you? It's probably gonna go about something completely different, or at least start of about something/somewhere else It will be much longer before we get any follow-up on annie's fire elemental split

Thanks for the other compliments. I probably spent too much time on this. Far too much time. (And FWIW, I used clone stamp a helluvalot in order to fix things). I just realized that mine makes him look all sad and possibly even sympathetic. And that creeps me out.

Is it just me, or does Tony only have one shirt and one tie? Maybe he has a thing for anime characters. When was the last time you saw them change? Or maybe he just has a closetfull of suits and ties, all the same.

I've seen a couple of articles saying you only have so much decision making stamina each day. It takes just as much brain sweat to decide what to wear as to decide where you should invest that extra million bucks you found in your portfolio. Doing as much as you can by routine, such as eating lunch, breakfast, and selecting your wardrobe, frees up significant cognitive resources for higher things. And I suspect this is why schedules and to-do lists help so many. It's on the list, check it off, move on. I haven't decided whether or not I want to try that out, though, it sounds kind of confining.

Usually people try it when it becomes really tough to get the job done without it. If you don't need it, don't do it.

I tried hard to get into that comic and it just didn't stick for me. I should give it another shot. Are you referring to A Redtail's Dream or Stand Still Stay Silent? I've looked at them a couple times each and neither one has grabbed me at all. Although they could be worse... if the latter lived up to its name, it would be really boring.

I was really into SSSS when it started, but the sluggish pace of the story is starting to lose me. Nothing truly important is happening. We're chasing a cat. There's this whole post-apoc world out there, and all that's happening is some playful scavenging. I'll keep reading it, but my enthusiasm is gone.

SSSS lost me in the prologue when nearly every page was accompanied by insipid commentary on the story. If your work can't stand on its own and without you nudging and winking at the audience then you are doing it wrong.

It's very well crafted but lacks the depth and intricacy of Gunnerkrigg Court.
Granted, you can always just ignore the commentary. But I know exactly what you mean, Sky Schemer.

What it ended up doing is coloring my perception of the author and his writing (and I wasn't all that engaged by his writing to begin with, so that didn't help). OK. I am leading us further off topic so I'll shut up about this now.

Just one last thing on this topic: SSSS has virtually nothing in common with GC, apart from being a long-form webcomic, so it is not surprising when GC fans don't enjoy SSSS. Most distinguishing characteristic: GC is a story for dog lovers, SSSS is for cat lovers

Nah, that's not the thing. I enjoy lots of different comics. I was all poised to enjoy SSSS, I love the art and the playful style. It's just that the prologue has taken forever to establish the setting, then characters, and now it's taking forever to get to some kind of action. It's a bit frustrating/uninteresting, even with the fast update pace.
There's too much whimsy and too little depth. It reminds me of Hollywood movies that deal with a disaster, but you can tell the author has never had to struggle through that level of hardship. Because the characters don't react in believable ways. There's a severity that creeps in, or dark humor, when it feels real. It's just not gripping me, even though it deals with the themes I love (low magic, weird atmosphere and setting, cool characters).
Mind you, we're still talking about one of the best comics currently out there. Just... nnngh.
