I'm so glad Donny's not giving Tony a warm welcome, shows loyalty to Annie and Surma. In fact, I hope Donny knows how to get through to him, maybe by envoking Surma, to breaks Tony down. Or maybe they'll offer to take guardianship of Annie (after all, isn't Renard who he really came for?) so he can attend to other matters. I cannot wait for next week, it's going to be uncomfortable in the most delicious way. I also secretly hope that we get a peek of what Annie looks like in the ether, come on Anya. Annie should look the same in the ether as she always has, considering that every time she's appeared in the ether after Jeanne cut her cheek by the Annan Waters, the cut has appeared on her face. Also, Renard looks like a fox when he appears in the ether, which was explained by someone in the comic or by Tom, as that since a fox is Renard's original form, that is what he appears as. Though the rules may be different for changes such as haircuts, especially since that change was not caused by an etheric being, unlike the case with Jeanne using her sword on Annie. So I think that her etheric appearance will stay the same, but it might not. Nonetheless, I am curious to see whether her appearance in the ether will change or not. Or, Annie is standing one step below the one Anthony is on, and Kat is several feet behind Donny. I think it's likely that Tom used this very explainable viewpoint to still communicate that idea of big in-charge grown-ups with serious issues to discuss and kids that are just excited to see each other. But if you just look at the panel it is easily explained and not out-of-place. Which makes me respect Tom that much more as an artist and storyteller.

Regarding the lines/scars on Tony's face vs. Donny's relatively smooth skin, I and several others have pointed out that Tony's face is too weathered for his age. Kind of like the Headmaster's. It must be caused by something else. My guess is that messing with the ether is doing it. I think those are scars relating to the same event where he lost his hand, not a sign of age but a sign of having been severely beaten up by something or someone. There's a better TVTrope for this particular instance: Teens Are Short. It's an easy, quick way to emphasise characters' age difference. It's completely unrealistic, but it works nicely for a visual medium.

Cute waves to break the ice. One *very* small artistic niggle. These two young women are 15-16yo. They should be more or less fully grown, yet are only half the height of their fathers. It does work to establish parental authority. Are you sure? I thought they were 14-ish

What kind if flashbacks will we see and is Eglamore waiting inside? Actually it would be better to just see Donald with Anthony.

Annie: smacks a chaos god on his rump and calls him bad dog, is totally submissive around her father. What the hell did he do to her?

This is the point where we will learn Tony is in fact a vampire and cannot enter until Donald invites him inside. Donald is skeptical of doing so as Tony's heavily detailed face may intimidate others who have much more simple facial designs.

And Tony is from the "cannot act to save a life" vampiric bloodline, explaining his behavior! Perfect!

I'm not entirely sure if the greeting is meant to be cold, or this is normal. I guess we'll have to see next week

I think he was severely injured when someone--or something--violently attacked him while he was trying to save his daughter from forces controlling her indwelling fire elemental. It's the emotional scars that really hurt, though--his attacker claimed to be acting on behalf of Antimony herself! Not to mention that terrifying robot god hovering over the whole arena. === I too appreciate how Tom scaled the girls here, and how they peek at each other around their Fathers. Annie, in particular, stepped behind Anthony from his right hand to his left.

Donald seems angry. In Microsat 5 he was really excited to hear of Tony and anxious to help him. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

No handshake? Thats not very mate-like, Donny. Kidding aside, this is interesting. A lot of us figured conflict would be inevitable, but I didn't think Donald would give such a cold greeting right from the start. It could be that this is just their traditional joke-formal method of greeting each other. I know I tend to play that up when reconnecting with old friends. Maybe that's what's happening here! haha who am I kidding they're pissed at each other.

It does work to establish parental authority. That's Panel 4 only. Annie is behind her father on the stairs. In the rest of the panels she's about 2/3 of the height of Anthony, which is still pretty short. Supposedly the comic started at about 12 Y/O and is currently at 16 or so but looking at Annie and Kat I would have guessed starting at 8 and ending at 12. My perspective might be skewed as I'm only 16, and 6th graders that used to look more or less fully grown to me look like 9 year olds now, but most of my classmates look a lot older than Annie and Kat. I wonder what the reason for portraying them this way is.

Can't look for it now, but I recently a strip showing Annie and Donald walking down the street--Microsat 5 perhaps?
She's considerably shorter than he is.
The Court grows its men tall and its women, uh, not so tall.

Kat with heels and Paz in flats reflect that trend in their own way.

After all, despite what Annie has gone through, she isn't close to fully grown. A more valid comparison might be between Anja and Donald, perhaps - and they appear the same height (seen again here). On that page and this one, Jimmy-Jims is much taller than Anja, but he's just a ridiculously tall man as is.

A lot of us figured conflict would be inevitable, but I didn't think Donald would give such a cold greeting right from the start. Thin air. This may be normal for them. Or it may be a guarded greeting. Seriously, how does this look for Donald? His old pal who secretly communicated with him - untraceably and even then via Jones (which is obvious show of utter distrust to everyone else here) suddenly returns, but doesn't even bother to tell him in advance or drop in (to produce new OTP, at least) without a specific invitation. While Kat is kind of freaked out (okay, that is pretty much normal) and maybe also mentions really weird details. Something needs to be explained here! And if he has any shadow of doubt that he sees the real Tony, that forcecage is on hair trigger right now. shows loyalty to Annie and Surma. How so? I also secretly hope that we get a peek of what Annie looks like in the ether, come on Anya. She doesn't seem to do it every minute. But it's hard to imagine Kat being silent about Annie's state, so she may want to check for herself. And then... take a look at Anthony too? And after spending time with Annie in Microsat 5 I doubt he likes the way Tony has treated her since returning. Er... what do you mean?
