Augh! I have just received an e-mail from Barnes & Noble telling me they've canceled my order for the book. They don't give a specific reason. What happened? I just got a similar notification from Amazon. Deep in the text they mention that the reason is that I didn't approve the delay... which is strange because I don't remember seeing any sort of notice that I needed to do so to avoid having my order canceled.

I guess after MONTHS of waiting they cancel orders because of.. um.. er.. to streamline their data management workflow synergy thing?
I guess there's some plausible reason for this. Maybe orders expire automatically after some time. You said you wanted the book yeah but that was roughly half a year ago, which is long enough so they can't expect that you still want it.

Me too! I woke up to see this in my inbox this morning and quite unhappy. To borrow a quote: "No sir, I did not like it." I wonder what is going on here...

Sorry guys. I still have no idea what's going on with the book.

It's not your fault. I see that there is a serious issue with Archaia Studios Press; there is a press release about it here: www.daradja.com/2008_pr_052108.phpBy the way, rumor in the wired says that the DAK group Ltd specializes in the sale of small businesses. If so that does not bode well for a fast resolution. Instead of trying to resuscitate my first order I think I'll just place another. Maybe it will drive the ranking higher.

I got the same message as you guys did, first one telling me that there was a long delay but they'd continue trying to locate the book. Then I got another a few weeks later saying that they'd taken the liberty of cancelling the order for me as the book was 'unattainable.'
Meh, I figure I'll just re-order it.

I just had another shufti on Amaazon UK, and found that they've got another listing for the book, here, with 24th October as the 'publishing' date, and Titan Books as the publisher. Good news??

Titan Books is putting the book out in the UK and Ireland in October. I didn't want to mention it until it was more concrete, but it looks like they might have started their marketing.
Also, does this mean the book won't be out anywhere else until October? I have no idea, but if that's the case then I'm super pissed. On the other hand, the thing with Titan might not materialise either.
I just want my crappy book to be out already.

I just want my crappy book to be out already. This comment just makes me want to hug you. It is really unfair that they're c*cking you about with the publishing date because it makes it difficult for you to help them out with their advertising. And considering all the interest here I doubt it's a crappy book EDIT: I hope that didn't sound patronising. It wasn't meant to.

I have approved the delays from Amazon like 5 times already... but they're still trying, so is good I guess, I'm with the main Amazon site, since they don't seem to have one for Latin America. And of course is not a crappy book... and I want it out too

ASP has posted a blurb on their site about titles coming out in August. Sadly GCv1.1 is not among them so they'll miss their second delivery estimate to Amazon; brace yourselves to approve delays or have orders canceled (again).
Even so, this is very good news. For a while it looked like ASP would probably expire and it'd be seven years before there could be a US market release, depending on what exactly was in the agreement. ASP printing anything at all means the odds of GCv1.1 within a reasonable timeframe have greatly improved. Let's hope it actually happens.

Also, the window for a "reasonable timeframe" has long since passed. "Reasonable timeframe" given an indie press who's partners decided to go separate ways. Sorry if I come off Pollyannaish but there's reason to think things are not as bad as they could be.

Let's just hope it's October *this* year. I mean, what's the deal? How many preorders can there be? A few hundred at most is my guess, given I don't have a clue how many readers GC has. So it's full-color. So what? Doesn't take any longer than BW. So it's 300 pages. Them's a friggin' book publisher! It's their job to print books! How are they gonna make money If every book they print takes 6 months! Let me fetch some random full-color 200+ pages print from my shelve... erm. here you go: The Playboy! It's scheduled every month. Which includes reportages and stuff. Another one: 'Der Spiegel', scheduled weekly! ~200 pages, full color. Grrrrrrrr. just do it already. But know this: I ordered 8th of April, and I shall be damned if I chicken out now. </rant> There. I feel much better now. Thank you and good night.

Actually it's more like a few thousand preorders. Who knows what that number will be when amazon cancels most of them, however.

Wow. That must be weird. I offer something I created to the public and they want a few thousand. I can't even begin to imagine how this must feel. Well, now there are a few thousand and one preorders. ;D

Cancel my order?? No way. FWIW, I'm still really excited about the book, and I can't wait for it to arrive. Just takes more patience than usual.

I'm-a gonna send them a nice and diplomatic mail. No worries, I'm staying civilised. Maybe if more of you speak up we can create some gentle pressure.

Send an e-mail to who? Amazon have no control over the fact that the book hasn't been printed yet.

Your book isn't crappy. It's awesome and cool and froody and any number of superlatives. It is also therefore waiting for.
If I had a budget for tons and tons of shiny paper, I would publish it myself and give all the money to you.

Despite how long all of this has been going on, this is the first time I found out the book has been delayed.
On the other hand, I'm happy Titan are apparently publishing this in Ireland, because then I won't have to pay a super inflated price for the import copy (although I still would).
If any webcomic deserves to be in print, it's this one. I hope it sells a bajillion copies so they make more ;D

Just wanted to let you know Tom, no matter how many times they cancel it. I'll keep ordering. Publish more and I'll order those too. Even if they screw those up. It's not your fault.
