Paz is stepping in for Kat's common sense. She knew she kept her around for something... (besides KazPat cuteness of course.)

Why are doing this? (Kat, I mean. Other students are in danger, and you just play with your newly-found ethero-zimmingham-godly-wtf powers.)

Kat's doing the exact same thing I would do in that situation.
"Oh no, they've captured us and pulled us into the weird dimension inside Zimmy's brain, and they're forcing me to construct a body for- Oh holy shit look how cool this is!"

You know what it's like the first few minutes after you're given a new toy and you want to see what it can do? That only your toy is the ability to create living bodies. Creepy. Also: exposition time!

Why are doing this? (Kat, I mean. Other students are in danger, and you just play with your newly-found ethero-zimmingham-godly-wtf powers.) Fate. I preferred the other thread's title, personally Was there another thread? I checked and didn't see any. I guess the creator had already deleted it. I think this had three good title alternatives. First, if I hd considered the focus is on Kat's enthusiasm with her job, I would have gone for "this would take me weeks to do in my shop ...months." I guess the other thread used this one, then? But I preferred the turning in the end, Paz's intervention, as I thought that it will turn out to be the more important point of this page (I may be wrong though). That leaves you with the two other alternatives, either use the whole or a part of "excuse me mister ship... why are you doing this?" or then go with "You said something about Lindsey?" My reason why I went with the latter is that we kind of know why the ship is doing this, namely that it has to do with Lindsey, and while you could say that we then also know the ship said something about Lindsey, I think that that phrase is getting us more into the discussion that will follow. I still feel it is, if not the right title, at least a right title.

Disappointed in Kat, but yay for Paz. Also, very polite the way she asks.
Again, the problem would not be so much what the ship wants but that the whole exercise is only made possible by abusing Zimmy and putting other students in danger. Kat is supposed to be a protagonist, so there should be some "what was I thinking" ahead for her.

I'm terribly amused at Kat sitting down pretzel style for this. Like, yeah, students are being visibly disturbed by their surroundings, but honestly, I wouldn't mind just watching Kat play around with weird purple ship goo by making ligaments and muscle. Cutesies.
Also: Paz shows us her name is more than just a couple of letters :-)

Interesting to note that despite what we thought, Kat hasn't actually done anything of note with the muscle stuff yet.

Such a short-lived thread; born 10 seconds late and lived barely a minute. See how easily I gave it a life, and took it away? And I looked upon its corpse, and said: It was worth it.

Paz is stepping in for Kat's common sense. She knew she kept her around for something... (besides KazPat cuteness of course.) Yup. The secret of mad scientists who perform well: keeping around a sane handler can do wonders for one's safety, let alone diet. You know what it's like the first few minutes after you're given a new toy and you want to see what it can do? Also known as "for science!" moment. That only your toy is the ability to create living bodies. Creepy. I don't think Kat is creeped out by organic life as such.

Loving the gleeful fascination on Kat's face. "Look Pa, no hands!"
I don't think Kat truly grasps the gravity of the situation, given this is only her first time here. Hopefully something Paz related wakes her up soon.

Paz means "peace" in Spanish, as far as I've heard here on the forum. I think effulgentether is saying that Paz is trying to find a more peaceful solution. EDIT: Ninja'd by gradiant!

Kat is supposed to be a protagonist, so there should be some "what was I thinking" ahead for her. My thoughts as well, especially the first sentence of the second paragraph. I had the uneasy feeling, when reading past threads in this chapter, that one or two of the readers (though not the majority) seemed to think that the ship being in love with Lindsey justified what it did to the students. I'm hoping that Paz will be able to help the ship, at least, realize that its feelings for Lindsey didn't make it right for it to get the schoolchildren into this trouble. (Somebody will have to, with Kat being too distracted by her newfound ability.) And we really need to find some way of solving the "two threads for a page" problem that keeps cropping up.

Might just be me, but I am getting a Tetsuo Shima vibe from Kat right now. I'm likely wrong though.

I guess it's understandable that Kat's getting excited about this, but it's still somewhat concerning just how utterly detached she is from the overall situation. :/ And we really need to find some way of solving the "two threads for a page" problem that keeps cropping up. A bot, perhaps? Or perhaps we could plan it? Should we create another thread and discuss it there? Often it takes care of itself, happens much more often than one would think. Each post has a timestamp down to the second, the irc has a bot that relays posts as they come in.. it's pretty much an unspoken gentleman's agreement at this point (on the off-chance it wasn't before) to check the index after posting to see what's going on and delete your own if it wasn't first.

What else should Kat be doing? When Annie was down by the river, she built a hover thingamabob and solved the problem. She may be attempting to do the same, but in a different fashion. She may not be the best conveyor of feelings like Paz, after all. I get how some might be weirded out by her fascination, but honestly, what other good options does she have?

Kat is starting to remind me of a lot of the characters in the Girl-Genius webcomic. The type of person who will start to disassemble their jet engine to improve it even while the plane is in mid-flight.

Kat's gone mad scientist.
Man, Reynard needs get here soon. He can explain how the girl is just not that into you and getting a body through nefarious means will not make her into to you. The opposite in fact.

This page is good and all....I mean, I like to see Paz stepping up to make for a peaceful resolution, but the more weirdness is going on, the more worried I get for Zimmy.
I kinda wish that Kat would just say, "No body for you! At least, not until my friends are guaranteed safe. Then we'll talk." But perhaps Paz will work everyone's safety into her discussion here. Start from the angle of the ship's feelings for Lindsey and say, "We have feelings for our friends too. We care about them, and your actions have put them in danger." That would be excellent and clever of her, though it's rather a volatile situation to teach Mr. Ship new feelings (guilt, emotional conflict, &c.) But it could work out!

Intoxicated by what she can do. I was the same way at that age, and still have tendencies in that direction even though I have a granddaughter older than Kat. Thank goodness Paz was there to bring her mind around to thinking about whether she should do what the ship is asking.

It's just one page. Kat probably won't be like "heck with everyone else I want to play with this" once Paz or whoever/whatever else brings her focus back on the situation at large. That'd be pretty out of character.
Personally I was kinda afraid that when we came back to this scene, Kat and/or Paz would be freaking out about how crazy it was, in the clawing-at-my-face-because-my-mortal-mind-can't-cope sort of way. Luckily cooler heads appear to be prevailing.
Basically what I'm saying is that this could be worse.

Paz's question makes Kat stop and think, which will generate some harsh exchanges between her and Ship, which will escalate until the Annie, Jenny, Jack, and the Robot Army shows up.
I do wonder where Zimmy is being held. Ultimately, all of their safety relies on reuniting Gamma and Zimmy, because reality will be in flux regardless of which side has superior arguments or strength.
