See, I like it when a book or movie can pull that off well haha though admittedly this one seemed forced.* *the title drop, not the chapter, of course They're always forced, have you watched James Bond? heh. The title drop in Piranhaconda (my wife likes really bad horror/monster movies, the worse the better) was so forced that *one of the characters in the film* immediately replied "I can't believe you just said that."

..and he is. At least when combating an etheric flying mantis shrimp. "snacking upon". Either way, it's game over, man, game over. - "We cannot tolerate the proliferation of this paperwork any longer. It is useless to fight the forms. We must kill the people producing them." I find your tagline ominously appropriate for the current plot.

They'll have to nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. Either way, it's game over, man, game over. That's a little extreme, don't you think? Why don't we just put the little girl in charge?

Am I the only one here thinking that the ship just wants a new flesh body instead of the ship being made flesh? No, that's what I think too, I guess the plan is "simply" to make a copy of Bud, and upload the A.I., or maybe just plug in it's CPU. Since Reynardine's not allowed to leave the Court... The ship can be said to be part of the court, like an embassy is part of the country it represents.

Kat methodically harvest the flesh from all the Nobodies and combine it with a cruise ship as a weird freakish cyborg, all the while acting cool and collected but still having tears pour unnoticed down her face... This suddenly entered a new level of dark... Perhaps...but I think Tom really set the stage with "You will make me flesh." Actually, the next page has a whole chorus of that line. And the best way the robots think to make that happen? To coerce Zimmy to "perform a level 6 etheric distortion"! (The bit about "upon request" is BS; she is clearly under duress and is not doing this by free choice. So yes, it's definitely dark! But a new level? We'll have to see. The flesh Kat needs has to come from somewhere. Remember Jones' advice on this page: "If Coyote is correct, then all the horrors of mankind can be given form by the ether. They might not all be as agreeable as Renard or Mort. You must treat the dangers seriously." We've seen how dangerous the Whitelegs can be, and the Nobodies are certainly bizarre; I'm not sure whether they're a threat per se. But as disagreeable as using them for material is, it's one possibility**, and Tom doesn't tend to shy away from things just because they're unpleasant or potentially scarring. Quite the opposite in fact, if it's reasonable for the plot and an opportunity for character growth. **I was thinking about this later and considered the issue about Nobodies GOP!ing when you touch them, and how that might ruin this theory. But then I realized how differently Kat saw and interacted with the RoTD, and it occurred to me that she may very well have the same experience in Zimmingham! I imagine that alone would be surprising and disturbing to Zimmy in the same way that it was to Mort, yeah? But anyways, I'm not saying I think that the Nobody-fodder idea is likely to be the actual story line. I'm only saying that just because something's dark doesn't mean it's out of bounds at this point. Tom's pointed the ship in that direction already, and those things don't turn on a dime.

Truth to tell, I wonder how much we'll even see of the ship being made flesh. The robots don't seem to understand Zimmy's abilities that well, or else they'd never dare make use of them (and that talk about "level 6 etheric distortion" certainly sounds absurd in light of Zimmy's abilities being involuntary; no way is she going to be able to adjust them to a specific setting). Most likely the ship's desire to become flesh will be forgotten amid the terror of Nobodies, Whitelegs, and even worse (I recall a giant insect in "Dobranoc, Gamma" - now that's one thing I don't want to meet - as well as something that looked vaguely like a Rogat Orjak but which probably wasn't one) erupting into the place.
I think that this whole chapter will have a "torn it" effect on a lot of things:
1. Annie and Kat's friendship with Robot.
2. The Court's relationship with the robots within it.
3. Kat's enthusiasm for building a robot (she'll probably feel by the end of this that if she never sees another robot, it'll be too soon) and maybe even for scientific enterprises.
4. The Court administration (a cruise ship belonging to the Court with an entire year of students on board being taken over by a robot mutiny, and the students endangered by the reality-warping abilities of one of them - that's just the kind of thing that can deal a serious, maybe even lethal blow to a school). I can just imagine the Headmaster and other people at the top having to deal with all these questions of how they could have allowed such a thing to happen, didn't they know how dangerous Zimmy's abilities were, weren't they paying close enough attention to the robots, etc. And with this many students on board who saw the robot takeover, there's no way it can be hushed up.
5. After the robots made their demands to Kat in front of so many students, the Court will have to know about her activities in the workshop, and given how they helped lead to this mess, there's going to be trouble. Yes, Kat was displaying the kind of ingenuity and drive that the Court would want to see in its students - but it's still connected to the robot mutiny, and I suspect that the Court will be looking for a scapegoat for an incident that could be due in part to its negligence. Publicly blaming Kat for the trouble might seem the best way out for them. (And if they figure out that Kat's project stemmed from finding a new body for a robot whom Annie had twice "broken out" - and sent across the bridge into the forest - I think that Miss Carver will be added to the scapegoats list.)
At least the relations between the Court and the Wood aren't likely to be damaged by this event - from what we've seen so far.

The ship-robots, which presumably are Court property, attacked the Forest's Medium. They attacked her as a Court student rather than as the Forest's Medium. And also acted against a lot of other Court students- all without (presumably) any authorization from the human administration. I think that the Court would argue that they are rebels and not representatives of the Court.

I don't think we'll actually see Kat as we know her in Zimmy Land. I imagine she'll take on her angel form, now that she's closer to being realized as it.

Just occurred to me that perhaps the court never let Zimmy on the ship, but the robots themselves proposed this option to Gamma and Zimmy. Makes a lotta sense IMO.

Just realised that Jack's drone flew straight through a solid window. no it's open. it's a sliding window (or whatever you call that), the right side has been pushed to the left, so that side is open.

1. Annie and Kat's friendship with Robot. I don't think Annie (or Kat)'s relationship with robot is in danger, I think Robot would totally disapprove what the Seraphs are doing.

I don't necessarily agree. He certainly would not approve of hurting the Angel, but he might not consider what's happened so far as actually hurting her. Anything that happens to other students aboard might fall under 'it was worth it'.

Let's hope that Tom's not cruel enough to have something like this next week: MONDAY: Panels of the students' horrified responses as the cruise ship enters Zimmy's world - and in the bottom corner, another "antimony" symbol representing the end of a chapter. WEDNESDAY: The next Treatise. FRIDAY: Tea announcing that it's time for another two-week hiatus with more City Face stories.

Anything that happens to other students aboard might fall under 'it was worth it'. Robot has never gotten in the way of Kat and her work, he never pressured her, he never made her directly involved in his religion. He only used leftovers of her work and interpreted it in a certain way to the other robots; he never acted, he only observed and intepreted.

Why is everyone thinking that the students are in danger and were attacked by the robots? If anything, the students are the danger, having disruptive powers, and the only aggressive being on the ship is Annie, before she was tagged.

Why is everyone thinking that the students are in danger and were attacked by the robots? Because the Seraphs are playing with Zimmy's reality warping powers.

Careless words can cause as much trouble as deliberately malicious words. That would still mean he disapproves of what's going on. As to the question of the friendship, I guess it depends. Would you remain friends with a person if someone else twisted their words to horrible ends? What if the person denied the new interpretation? All this is obviously speculation, but it's an interesting question. I, for one, would continue in friendship with such a person.
