"She met with all of them" instead of "all of us" Could just be his dialect. Unless he considers himself a foreigner as well. Or perhaps he doesn't consider himself and the fairy to be "animals". Tom does say that the froggy guy is a long way from home and his usual habitat is likely swamp. Also, theres a silhouette of a fairy right behind the dragon and there is a silhouette of the froggy guy at about the middle of the current page.

Goddamn it, this is going to be another of those 'learn half of the truth and no more' chapters, isn't it? Which are, in fact, the best kind of chapters.
Also, did anyone else catch that there is a subtle implication that the fairy is not from the forest? The way Toad is describing this, she does not seem to be in the people he considers 'in the forest'. "She met with all of them" instead of "all of us" Could just be his dialect. Unless he considers himself a foreigner as well. Perhaps he means (or is misinterpreting) that she met with at least one animal of each species. Even that would be quite an undertaking for a single summer when you consider how many species there are which, at full growth, are only a couple millimeters (or less) long.

Ooh! Oooh! Is it the word "in"? No! It's "gills", I know it! I mean, come on, how many times do have people come across "gills" before? Actually it's "Catbus", but thanks for playing!

So... that's how Pik looks outside the chair? Or perhaps he doesn't consider himself and the fairy to be "animals". Tom does say that the froggy guy is a long way from home and his usual habitat is likely swamp. Also, theres a silhouette of a fairy right behind the dragon and there is a silhouette of the froggy guy at about the middle of the current page. But what critter (red) is behind the frog guy's silhouette (orange)?

The saddest thing that you learn about Wales is the story of how all their awe-inspiring magical fiery red dragons gradually retreated from the myopic view of mortal men; the greatest of them finally retired from active play mere days ago after having disguised itself in human shape as one Mr. "Ryan Giggs". The revolution seizing the delicious means of production will be televized, with myself destined to act the part of the artist formerly known as the Cookie Monster, which now consumes vegetables for breakfast in America, or something. I mostly forgot what that reporter in the Spiegel was all getting fussy about. Edit: also, regarding the burial of the jellyfish, I think the comment captures both Kat's naivity in her desire to perform the rituals of a grown-up (as in burying a jellyfish) as well as Annie's bewildered compassion when faced with a rather bleak outlook (as in looking at a dead jellyfish, which looks like an unfortunate, empty plastic bag, and deciding to bury it), by combining suggestively the frozen eternity of a past action with the growth of the mind presently browsing through the records of memory, thereby hinting at what childhood means to each of us without making crude, generalizing statements, which, as I come to realize, I'm making myself guilty of right now. Hooray for the guy who explains the joke!

Burying a jellyfish is a pretty anthropocentric view of a nonhuman species.
Tom probably didn't ask the jellyfish if it preferred cremation, either. For shame.

(Though, until confirmed otherwise, I will assume they breathe blueberry muffins and not fire.)
They could also be...a tall tale.
