Have I missed something? Where and when was this announced? Do you mean a hiatus or permanent cancellation?

She was "so grown up" from the start of the comic. I think Tom commented on one of the Good Hope flashbacks that it was before Annie forgot how to be a child. HereI've said this before, but - the first noteworthy recurring character to be written out of the comic. A sign of a shift in mood? There may be more deaths from this point, but the comic had both dark and light moments from the beginning. Maybe from now on more puzzles will be solved, and less new ones will arise. Anyway, I love this comic, I don't mind if it continues forever. I am not sure how to double quote, Instead of quoting use "select post" from the cogwheel menu. Or just open a new page or tab, quote, cut and paste.

Intelligence is prone to hyperbole and leaping to...nonobvious...conclusions. For example, I don't get how anything in today's comic indicates anything about Mort's memories, one way or the other.

Yeeah, Intelligence, please elaborate... I'm pretty certain that 1) Mort lost at least his memories about Annie in the last page and 2) the Comic is nowhere near it's end.

Now he is leaving. A possible book ends?

1) He was probably just shocked by the kiss. I guess that's possible, if you want to read it that way. But there would be no reason for Tom to let Annie mention the memory-loss if the reader wouldn't actually get to witness said memory-loss with Mort. So, I'm still convinced he lost it. There is no way in hell. There are still so many questions left unanswered, and those questions are set up to be answered. No, no, don't worry. I rarely can predict anything about the plot, but I can say with 100% certainty: Gunnerkrigg Court is not coming to an end just yet. It's just Mort's plotline that ended.

Ah, now I see what you meant. Earlier it seemed as if you were making a definitive statement based off an announcement, my mistake. I have to admit I'm a little split on the state of Mort's memories myself. I am sure Mort lost some of his memories of Annie, but I'm also sure that the look back was one of recognition, a sort of "why is she so familiar" sequence within Mort.

It's just Mort's plotline that ended. The bonus-page could surprise us. Mort after-afterlife funpage? Meeting friends and family? We can hope. On a serious note. How does Kat feel about Annie being so cool about the whole thing. Might scare her a little?

So he didn't lose any memories after all. Boy, am I embarrassed. I'm quite sorry I called Annie a murderer. But it is still sad Mort is going. Particularly since it means the end of Gunnerkrigg Court. He has been obliterated. He has lost all of his memories; even if they didn't go piece-wise, they're still gone.

If the comic would end very soon, it would feel very abrupt and contrived --- there is just too much unresolved plot that it'd be realistic that comic would end anytime soon. However, I think Intelligence is making a very fine point: Mort leaving might very well signify at least change of tone. Even if not taking account that Mort could be interpreted as a symbol for the Etheric things being something not very scary, something Annie can deal with or even befriend if other people couldn't (as others have pointed out before me, the ongoing theme of this comic has been that we've been introduced with Jeanne, darker side of Coyote, the Court meddling with Ether, Robot's Abrahamic turn etc problems the main protagonist couldn't solve with ease, and even attempting to do so could be very dangerous... very unlike Basil or Mort) --- Mort as character has also provided a significant proportion of FUN TIME... *ahem* comical interludes; both might be over now. Also, this chapter might indicate that the story has reached a certain mature phase (to continue with misusing terminology I'm not too familiar with) where all the exposition has been finally done with, the main objectives for protagonists to solve have been presented, and from this point onwards, the action will serve the purpose of advancing the plot towards the grand resolution. An act is concluded and another begins? Given the pace of comic, it will take time, but Mort leaving may very well be hinting that we're now beginning to head towards the end of the narrative. The end of the beginning or the beginning of the end, either way...

The world will continue to spin. The boy will take care of it. No, but seriously. The loss one one character means nothing to the continuation of the comic. Mort will be missed, but he doesn't spell the end to everything any more than the loss of Alistair did. The bonus-page could surprise us. Mort after-afterlife funpage? Meeting friends and family? We can hope.[/quote] That would be kind of anticlimactic. Annie is just being Annie. She bottles up her grief. I'm sure that Kat's used to it by now.

Not the best analogy, since Alistair was written out in the same chapter that introduced him. Guys! Guys! We all know the comic really ended when Hetty was written out! Seriously though, Mort's loss will certainly have a profound effect on the characters who knew him and his presence in the comic has been a delight, but he wasn't really central to any story arc other than his own. The world continues to spin, pup, the ghost and his antics will ensure it.
