well done! I think you have the orientation correct as well; river Annan (the real one anyway) runs mostly N-S, and there is evidence the court is W (and maybe a bit S) of Gillitie Wood. There is a bend in the Annan about where you've put them, so I'd say it is about the optimal location. (Of course in reality, there are no extensive woods on the E side of the Annan there, but .... poetic license, etc.) All credit to map author Matt Brown for the precise location; since I wasn't so sure myself, I only specified that they were opposite each other somewhere along the river. Although I also feel that the Court should be on the west side, I would be interested to know where you have found the evidence for its orientation. Now, I also mentioned Girl Genius to him; that is going to be a lot trickier, since in that version of Earth, Britain is largely submerged...

Actually, I think the Annan runs more westerly and he put them a bit too much to the east?

Although I also feel that the Court should be on the west side, I would be interested to know where you have found the evidence for its orientation. Now, I also mentioned Girl Genius to him; that is going to be a lot trickier, since in that version of Earth, Britain is largely submerged... in [1981] I speculated (edited a little): do we now have some directional/geographic information? www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1972suggests that Loup and the two mega-trees are more or less in a line, while he floats over the destroyed bridge. The trees are leaning/stretching towards Loup and Gillitie, shooting down root-boom-spears in their direction. That would make Egger's power-jump www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1976more or less at right angles to the Loup-megatree line, with our favorite fusion Gillitie god floating out of frame somewhere off to the right. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1981panel 2 shows the same Spang-bubble-shaved Megatree with the Sun setting behind... indicating that direction is west(-ish). That would seem to make Gillitie north of the Court (since Loup is to the right). But.... panel 4 shows the Gillitie beacon behind them, and thus east(-ish). So either there is some artistic liscense here, or the Annan curves around the Court, and the Forest borders the Court to the east and north. This presumes that the beacon was launched from the Forest; Loup would have had to delegate its launch, or move quickly (through the trees he has melted into?) to the side to launch it. annan.tiff (633.01 KB) this map (courtesy Google) shows the lower river Annan. The best way to match the above is to place the Court roughly in the Hoddom - Brydekirk - Kelhead area on the W side of the river, in its only major bend (it runs mostly N-S north of here). That puts Gillitie in the arc Kettleholm - Creca N and E of the Court. The former bridge would be near Hoddom (there actually is a nice old stone bridge there), while the beacon would have been sent up from the Creca side. This also puts GC close to the sea, so that exciting ocean adventures (Torn Sea) are easily possible. Of course, I could be completely wrong! edit: added a larger Annan region map which includes Creca...

(Of course in reality, there are no extensive woods on the E side of the Annan there, but .... poetic license, etc.) One of the things we know is that after the first year Kat went on a vacation to Scotland. It would be a bit strange to say you go there if Gunnerkrigg is in Scotland. So maybe place it to the south of the border. (Even more annoying; the court has a harbour on the ocean... The only Atlantic coast England has is in Cornwall as far as I can see.)

So you could say the Court has a port on the sea ("Torn Sea")... (Annie asks "so what ocean is this?" -assuming its an ocean because its big? - and Kat isn't really sure and guesses the Atlantic... maybe they're both wrong and its just the Irish Sea.) But you're right; it is kinda odd for Kat to vacation in Scotland (as tho it was a ways off) when she is already IN Scotland.

In fact, Hogwarts is down south* from GKC, and they know it as some posh special needs school. *(non-canonnically, whatsyourface)

I LOVE this artist, and his "Icarus and the Sun" series (which this is presumably part of) are works of beauty.

This is in Wikipedia as "False color image of Comet Kohoutek photographed with the far-ultraviolet electrographic camera during a Skylab spacewalk on December 25, 1973". We all know what it actually is, of course.

There's a book series, probably about Coyote: R.J. McMillen, Black Tide Rising. More covers at www.rjmcmillen.com.

« Project Kat. A small, unconventional horror rpg.» ( Paper Lily prologue) A dark-haired schoolgirl inclined to spout pop-science "debnuks", but still hoping (for personal reasons) that there is Something Out There («That’s funny. I didn’t pin you of all people as the “occult” type, Kat.» «That’s because I’m not.»). Doesn’t have friends at the start, though can make (and perhaps messily lose) some. Spooky shadow-people with glowing eyes. Dead birds. You should be more careful about the decisions you make. …Sadly, regret is always in the shadow of choice ... The answers you're looking for are not yours to take You’re not ready to learn the truth... ...and the truth is not willing to be learned by youAlso, Paper Lily Chapter 1 released, in which another adorable, but desperate young lady uses The Bus Ritual (mentioned when Kat finds a bunch of envelopes near the end of the prologue), winds up in a magical forest and meets some odd creatures, most of whom turn out to be harmless (but sometimes complete jackasses). I don’t know whether the series were in part inspired by Gunnerkrigg Court (which may well be the case), but it’s definitely inspired.
