Agreeing with everyone else on the guy just singling out Annie as a plural for all the psychopomps who've come in there in the past. Also, I like how you can see a tag on the guy's robe in panels 1 and 2. Can't even rip it off, can you? You lazy teenager. Lazy teenager; yes! He's even got the angsty lip-ring and nose-stud to go along with the part! Though I suppose it could just as easily be a girl... Also, Annie calls him/her a creature; she is obviously seeing something different.

Well Kat called it a guy when she referred to him, but it could very well be a girl!
They are seeing different things, though.
Probably.

Not particularly surprising that other psychopomps would have tried getting information from there, however, Annie is the only medium to have learned about Jeanne. Where did we hear Annie is the only medium to learn about Jeanne?

Where did we hear Annie is the only medium to learn about Jeanne? She was the one who found out about her name and her death, by now of course the others know because she told Muut.

That makes her the first guide to learn about Jeanne. There's no telling if she's the first medium to learn about her.
Pretty sure Surma never learned about her, though; she would not keep it from Annie and the guides, would she?

Robeguy's piercings, clothes tag, and giant fake monster hand make me think of a teenage dude hired to jump-scare people in a haunted house for minimum wage. I do wonder what he looks like to Annie, her face would indicate he's something much more frightening (and by the use of "creature," not human at all).
I'd say Kat's good 'ol scientific skepticism is letting her see past all their ether-y bells and whistles. Mort and Annie are probably both on the same page, rather than ALL of them having an individualized version.

He or she may have remembered Jeanne and may have known of the plan.

Curious...
Why did Annie's make up disappear? It has been in all the previous pages. Now it is gone.

"Its better to be safe and boring" is working out for Kat. I wonder how unusual that guy looked for Annie and Mort to keep staring at him as they're leaving.

Maybe something just short of a lovecraftian horror, or even A lovecraftian horror? Whatever it is, it's even more terrifying than Ketrak, which made Kat freak out, and Annie is used to Ketrak. Or maybe not teiifying, just really strange, and Annie has seen some strange things in the ether.

i have a feeling kat has a special power that lets her see what others cannot such as when she can see the things that make up things for instance, a wing or the air conditioner
she looks at things by how they are made up on the inside and not the outside

I interpreted the part with the wing as a flash of inspiration and seeing in the minds eye. The bit with the air conditioner was just her daydreaming and being distracted.

Annie is fine with anyone up to and including Ketrak, remember? To be rated as "terrifying" by her it takes something like Coyote via higher-level vision. Not that this can't be the case. I'd say Kat's good 'ol scientific skepticism is letting her see past all their ether-y bells and whistles. Mort and Annie are probably both on the same page, rather than ALL of them having an individualized version. Probably. Though unless they hear it their own ways too, a verification bat is a verification bat.

I wonder if we will get an etheric view of the special cases board or something, probably not if things are going the way they are already.

To be rated as "terrifying" by her it takes something like Coyote via higher-level vision. Not that this can't be the case. I think Annie's become far more capable of being frightened since the early chapters of the webcomic. Remember, her early encounters with etheric beings were with friendly (or at least, non-hostile) ones, such as the Guides, Shadow2, Basil, and Mort. Then she met several etheric beings who tried to kill or harm her (Reynardine, Jeanne, Ysengrin, amomg them) - and she survived, not because of any cleverness or skill on her part, but because she was rescued by others. Perhaps what Annie displayed in the early days of the comic was not natural fearlessness but naivete - a naivete that she has lost through her more harrowing adventures.

Perhaps 'inspiration' might be a better word. She walks around imagining what she could change or improve or just try...FOR SCIENCE!

Perhaps 'inspiration' might be a better word. She walks around imagining what she could change or improve or just try...FOR SCIENCE! I'unno if that's what they originally meant. I'd probably say closer to 'penetrating perception', pushing past all the etheric dress-up and getting to whats really there underneath. An interesting take on it. Still, I think the reason we're seeing it from Kat's perspective specifically is to lend credence to her viewpoint. If we saw it from Annie's perspective as a bunch of terrifying shizwaz, and Kat was acting all 'what why is this scary this is daft', we'd all be calling her a loony.

You know, this is very exciting and all, but I wonder what's going on with Mister Swiss-Trees-for-Brains.

They already touched. Back when Coyote commented on Smitty being lucky.
Does that mean we're no longer all right?

The thought is actually kind of scary; what would a well-ordered Coyote DO?
