Two random thoughts: first, when I went to look at this page, I read a little farther and noticed that Reynard's large-size form hasn't changed much, but it has gotten a little bit fluffier. Second, it's interesting to note on this page, that there is quite likely some sort of dissension in the robot society. Has this been resolved by the official-seeming decision of the robots when they marked Kat's workspace? Or is this conflict still there?

The etheric answer to Annie's reaction is probably the true one, but I present a more amusing theory: Annie is seeing the same thing we are. Having been raised isolated in a hospital, she has never really experienced halloween, and is thus genuinely impressed by a bunch of cheap plastic bats and poorly made pumpkins. No wonder Mort was so terrible at scaring. I also thought of this; it's pretty hilarious.

I too am of the theory that what we're seeing is merely Kat's perception of things.

I didn't think we'd get the obstructive bureaucrats this early.

Huh. At this rate - having the chapter icon and titlepic involved so soon - we'll be done with this chapter in a week.

Yeah, I think each of them is seeing the scene differently. The question, though, is who is seeing it correctly? Neither of them seems qualified to be an impartial judge: I doubt that either is seeing it correctly.

Neither of them seems qualified to be an impartial judge: I doubt that either is seeing it correctly. It's probably not even possible to see an Etheric environment objectively. I imagine it's always affected by your own aura and beliefs.

Now the question is, how does _Mort_ see this place?
It seems that GK Sierra will forever be rewording things I say more eloquently.

I wonder what Mort's employer looks like. Or if nothing "looks like" in this realm, and it's all individual interpretations.
*Gotolei half-expects Jones to be involved somehow

In panel three she's also purple. That might be on purpose, seeing as Annie's hair is turning brown. In fact, both Annie's and Kat's clothing seem to be rapidly desaturating as well. Has anyone else noticed this?

Why do I get the feeling that Mort is punking them? I would laugh so hard if it's all an elaborate prank.

'Cause it's unlike anything else we've seen associated with the ether, and we've not gotten any idea of an 'alternative' way of being dead yet. So it's kinda flying in the face of the rest of the comic, plus it's very Morty. (I love you mort)

Has anyone else noticed this? I think it's similar to the difference between "reality" and ether-based views. Remember when Coyote showed Annie how to look at things in the ether, and how dramatically different they were? In the ROTD it might be that things go drab, instead of dramatic.

Oh, so they're just going drab then. I nearly thought they were detoriating.

Something else interesting: the skeleton here is left-right reversed from the one on the title page.

I thought there was simply a greenish light coming off of the floor, and Purple Kat was a miscoloring.
Maybe I'm just boring like that.

That's why I said de saturating, as in losing their color. ;-|Detoriating means becoming rotted and skeletal. [semantics] Technically speaking that's decomposition - putrefaction and skeletonization respectively. Deterioration is a more broad term, which doesn't invoke such specific meaning without sufficient context.[/semantics]
