Probably stretching the definition of "fanart," but I got bored and made a desktop background thingy. Very cool! I'm doing some work with the forest symbol (while trying to learn how to use GIMP), so I may make a desktop background type picture of it if you don't.

Heh, go ahead Always fun to see what people come up with. (though I do have an idea or two of my own..) Along those lines, does anybody happen to have an svg of the forest logo? ( court logo here) I know you can just automagically trace it in inkscape but the outcome is a wobbly mess. Also fwip if you use the 1920x1280 image it should fill the entire screen Or does Windows crop it weirdly on the laptop?

Nice battle station. I have to get my second monitor working again...

Re-did the desktop based on the svg for cleaner outline. Messed around a bit, and now I dunno which style I like better, so yeah Again, click for big. I'll get around to 1920x1280 versions when it's not ~3am.

1920x1080 would also be cool. Please and thank you

Windows crops it to my laptop, which is 1366x768 or some such. Both my monitors are 900p, but it just uses the same image.
Edit: I used the larger image, and messed around with the settings, and now it fits. Thanks!

Do it! It's really tough to go back to one screen for anything but casual applications. Gimme two more screens, eh? They're a lot cheaper than they were a couple of years ago. I have two 20" 1600x900 monitors that I got for $80 and $90 on sale at Office Depot. You can probably pick up a 17" or so off Craigslist for around $30, depending where you are. Two extra monitors aren't as useful as one extra, just like your second monitor will never be as necessary as the first. I just have two extra because I used to have a desktop. Also, Win7 has some stuff (snap, etc) that makes it lots easier to partition up one screen. I like to have my work in progress on one screen, reference art on another, and forum on the third. But, you know, all the time it saves me is the time it takes to switch windows. They're useful for reference art, but not for the forum. Am I a geek now? Edit: Now a junior member! Double edit: If you're seriously considering getting more screens, (Which I highly recommend for productivity involving multiple windows) then of course make sure your computer can support it. Some laptops have two display ports, but can only use one at once.

Am I a geek now? Not yet. If you were a true geek your garage would be overflowing with enough spare keyboards, mouses, speakers, displays and boxes in various states of functionality that you could piece together enough working machines to have a 12-person LAN party. My dad is getting there, bless his heart. He's almost 68.

If I had more money I would be a geek, then. My entire family adds up to about 1.5 geeks total - in raising 6 kids, we've gone through around 30 computers, 5 of which are currently being used since my older bros moved out. I have gone through 4 on my own, including one I'm currently using, one in the garage, and two sold to pay for my current one. (I misread the specs on CL, so it turned out to be a bit of a rip-off.) I guess I'm just a nerd. xkcd.com/747/Edit: LAN party with what games? We might be able to pull it off, but not with a game game. Also, as my fifth computer I have a raspberry pi.

What did you have in mind? Did you know Quake III runs on a raspberry pi? You could set up a low-end LAN party with Openarena (Quake clone for Raspi, the original runs too but this is cheaper) for <$100 per person! You could give out the computers as party favors!

ArmA 2 with ACE, ACRE and JSRS is what I usually play with the co-workers on Saturday nights. I think the raspberry pi would choke on it. You could play Damned on it... maybe. If they ever optimize it.

My dad is getting there, bless his heart. He's almost 68. YES. Except they're all >10 years old, and there's only one functioning power supply among them. We have to keep moving it back and forth whenever we want to access the hard drives that fit it. The most RAM I've got on a single machine is 2 gigs, and the motherboard just burned out. However, I've got a ton of keyboards and mice (assuming you can use PS/2 ports), and more variations on the audio cable than I can count. And they're all running Ubuntu 8.04 or Windows 1998/1995. Out last copy of XP self immolated and the disk is gooone forever. I've got 7 and Ubuntu 13.10, but nothing supports it my but the non-functional laptop I got from a stack of (they thought) dead computers somebody gave me for helping out at their house. So maaaaybe I'll be able to have that LAN party, if only at 15 kbs. Do I get my geek card?

Only they don't take up your entire desk. Or wall. (yeah I know they're actually called workspaces)Another wall, darker colors this time

If you have Gimp, you can use the xcf and just paint bucket the colors you want, and let the masks do all the work for you Updated: [ 1366] [ 1920]

That does exactly what I've been trying to do on my forest symbol, so I had better figure that system out.

Kudos, Gotolei. This with the forest symbol would indeed be great. (surprised to read that from me? )
