I think Kmars picture reflects his signature, hehe. Confusion at Differential Calculus is normal. I love your signature. 9/10. Really, the only thing that could improve it in my mind is a joke or Gunnerkrigg reference. I'm a sucker for fancy sayings, especially if they have nature themes. Avatar: 7/10. Actually using a face, and that face is only a minor character? Nice. I guess it makes you a little more unique than the forty Antimonys and Kats. Status: N/A. 8/10 in all. I don't know about raising the quality of life, By preventing overcrowding. If we had four or five terraformed planets at our disposal, then no one would have to be overcrowded if they didn't want to. It would solve the problem temporarily. But humans will be humans. Pretty soon you'd have four or five full planets feuding with mother Earth. It would be just a matter of time before we were propelling massive projectiles into collision courses with our neighbors. |

the earth is big enough to easily sustain 50 billion+ people
we're just terribly inefficient at managing human beings and resources at the moment.

Additionally, the drive to travel among the stars leads to tech that has many other applications. It's pretty common to find that something made to do 'thing a' can also do 'thing β'. The hard part is finding a 'thing β' that's useful and profitable.

I think that on the contrary, once the danger of wiping out the human race in one fell swoop is gone, nations and corporate entities will actually be more inclined to start conflict. The stars are the ultimate goal, but there is going to be a few centuries in between that day and this, and we might not get there at all if we don't solve some of the more pressing problems here on Earth. |
