Does anyone else think it would take a while for Rey to set up his room like that? How long is this after the last chapter? I think it's result of Jones' help;) P.S.: I really like his room)) I really like his room too. I hadn't given it any thought, but naturally a giant talking wolf would have this sort of furniture instead of what I was sort of expecting by default. I wonder just a little bit where they got a doggie bed that big on short notice. I also notice that aside from the books he doesn't really own anything, has he just not had a chance to get stuff or does he prefer a more spartan existence?

I'm eager for us to get to the exothermic stage of the reaction. I'm afraid the scale needs to be... reindexed. "Exotermic" parts in Gunnerkrigg are like this. I'm hoping for something equally explosive from Kat

I also notice that aside from the books he doesn't really own anything, has he just not had a chance to get stuff or does he prefer a more spartan existence? There are some boxes and wrapped objects on the highest shelf on the right side of his room. It's likely that he has various other things there, but just hasn't gotten to unpacking them yet. We also don't see the entire room, so there might be more to it. I've also been wondering...what sort of things would he need or want in his room? How much time will he spend in it?

What art style change are you guys talking about? It looks the same to me. I think it's just that people aren't used to seeing this kind of expression on Anne's face- she actually looks like a girl her age interacting with a pet instead of her usual stoic or smirky look, nd her smiles tend to be wider.

Yeah, I checked in GIMP and she does go back to looking more like her (recent) self if her irises are made smaller. This isn't a critique though! She still looks lovely.
Renard was spending the whole day by himself while she and Kat were in class before, right? If she checks in on him in the mornings like this, surely she drops by later on too so he doesn't get lonely.

If I'd have to be specific I'd say her eyes seem spaced very far apart, the inner edges of her eyes very flat angled, her irises are freaking gigantic. That plus the large white reflection give her eyes an unusually strong animesque look. The longer I stare at it, the more it slides toward uncanny valley. Might just be this page, most people don't even seem to see anything different and and one of the nice things about GC is observing Tom's ever evolving art style.

Comparing the current page to this page in the last chapter (where her head is even angled the same), I see no change other than iris size, which does fluctuate some times in the comic. So yeah, I don't see anything different, really.

Ok, did some direct comparison, it's definitely mostly the irises. The curve of her face is also a little more shallow, so her face seems longer, particularly with her hair like that. Additionally the bridge of her nose has a slightly different position than in your reference image, which make her eyes stand farther apart. All in all normal hand drawn art fluctuation.
So, let's rejoice. It's probably just this page and even if it isn't, the difference is minimal.

Wow! Rey sure has a lot of Nancy Drew books! By some count, the number of Nancy Drew books are in the 300's - way more than the number of books on the wall. and yes, we see Ren has been reading - there's those books by his bed. "By some count" shouldn't include the distasteful Nancy Drew Files. Though, I wonder if Rey would be secretly attracted to them. He'd explain, "They're merely to complete the collection. Not to find out if she chooses Ned or the rakish rogue of a..." Love his pad.

So how does Renard get books from the right side shelves? An even bigger puzzle: How does he open the door? In doll form he's too small, and turning that crank with wolf-jaws/paws looks challenging. Maybe he leaves it unlatched? Edit: And apparently I need to make an avatar; this new default proboards one is terrifying.

He can probably reach the third shelf if he braces against the wall with his front paws like a dog does. For the door, perhaps that is what the switch on the back wall does? Hit that and it pops open like a handicap accessible door? Otherwise I don't know either.

Or use some sort of other powers he may have, that we are yet unaware of.

Having worked with many many anime artists, the panel under question doesn't look very anime-ish to me at all. It just looks like Tom's work. As previously noted by others, his style is quite fluid.
It's nice to see that Annie still keeps in touch with Renard, even though they aren't forced to live in the same quarters anymore. It's a good sign of a more mature friendship between the two.
Sidenote: holy hell, proboards.

I immediately thought her eyes made her look different as well, but I agree we should wait to see if it sticks.
Someone quickly untangle the canonical status and temporal relation between the City Face episodes and the main comic before Charlie Kaufman makes a movie out of it or something.

Tom's style is constantly evolving (and sometimes just plain inconsistant). I don't think you can assume from this one panel that Tom has "changed his style."
And I think you guys are throwing around "uncanny valley" without really knowing what it means. Tom's style is nowhere near realistic enough to even come close to the uncanny valley. The eyes may appear slightly out of focus (and yes, iris larger than usual), and that's maybe what's spooking you guys so badly.
tl;dr You guys are so dumb. For real. (I am kidding, of course).

No no. Obviously everything has changed. The only options are to either go along with such insane change and start wearing our pants on our heads (or on our lower bodies, for those who were already wearing pants on their heads) or explode with hatred for things daring to be different.

Granted, my invocation of the valley in this case was technically wrong. I meant it in the broader sense of "it friggin creeps me out", uncanny valley seemed close enough in this case. I think I already agreed with everything else you said. Except the dump part. We am not dump.

I won't call this particular action "mature" on its own. But given the whole uncertain situation around Renard and everything, it may look like a good idea, yes. The only options are to either go along with such insane change and start wearing our pants on our heads (or on our lower bodies, for those who were already wearing pants on their heads) or explode with hatred for things daring to be different. We're doomed. Dooooomed!

Am I the only one who kind of liked the original art style? For any question on the internet that can be phrased "Am I the only one who <x>?" the answer is overwhelmingly No. And to actually answer your question, I liked the original style.

I thought it had a kind of abstract charm unique to this story, and was kind of sorry to see it go.

I...honestly don't understand what the big deal is here. The irises are a little bigger than usual, I know, but the overall art style doesn't really look different to me.

For any question on the internet that can be phrased "Am I the only one who <x>?" the answer is overwhelmingly No. Yeah, it's basically a universal constant. "Am I the only one who is currently poking holes in my underpants with a steak knife?" No. "Am I the only one who believes light bulbs are powered by pixie dust?" No. "Am I the only one who likes to eat the charred remains of chickens thrown in a fire when they were still alive?" No. "Am I the only one who starts hitting people any time someone mentions spaghetti?" No. "Am I the only one who named their hands after celebrity twins?" No. "Am I the only one who always does something really inappropriate when drunk, and then denies ever having done that, even to people who were present at the time?" No. etc.
