Ok... So we seem to have gotten up to chapter 8 now. Does anyone mind if I have a go at chapter 9 (p149-p168)? This whole project looks really cool and is something I've been wishing we had for a while!
I'll try not to make a mess of it...

Tagging Q: Robots of the type Robot was originally, the S series, is Seraph a good tag rather than the more generic Robots I've been using tagging Ch 41 - or was Seraph something else?

I think snipergirl is doing evens going forward

Just skip forward a few or pick a random in the middle?

Right. Fine.
So thats the first few pages of two chapters I've done unneccecerily now then. Anyone mind if I try 21? Not an even number, not directly after something anyone else is doing. Although there's probably someone else working on it in secret somewhere now too.

OK so far: -louisxiv going backwards from the end -snipergirl doing even chapters from the start -Morpheus doing odd chapters from the start -spritznar doing comics from 844
Would you like to do comics from 395 (S1)?
I've sent instructions about GitHub as a private message on the forum to you and will add them to the front, as well as the work allocation so far!

21 is also ok!
Can you post what you have done so far though, I'll merge them into what we have already.

I've only just started so only have 3-4 pages of 21 so far, I deleted the ones from Ch 9 and 10 as had to create extra tags for them so didn't want to make duplicate but slightly different tags to someone already working on them!

GitHub (bloddy GitHub!) question: how do I resync my forked repo on Github to Snipergirl's more updated version? Forking again does not seem to do it - what am I missing?

Ditch the forked repo, you should be able to do exactly what you're doing right now on mine Other than that, I'm not sure whether it's able to be updated or not?

Ok, I submitted chapter 21 updates. I submitted a pull request, I don't know if I can update directly, but I don't want to at the moment anyway since this is my first time trying to edit and I don't want to mess it up! Can someone review it and let me know if it works?

That leaves me with a bunch of updates in limbo I guess I save them off, del all my local and hub repos, refork you, reclone locally, re-edit, commit, synch, send a pull to you, loop to start. Doesn't seem optimal. Hey ho.

Don't refork, just clone my repo and edit that. You couldn't clone and edit my repo before because I'd forgotten to give you access when I created it.
Also, in the main part of the program you can click "refresh" at the top, then go into the repo and there is an option to sync up the top. (will add that to the guide!)

Ok, cloned, thanks for the guidance snipergirl
Updated some defs - remember the separator is a single Tab character, you new bugs...
I'll just try to add the rest of chapter 41 (again...) then update the site

As you suggested I cloned your repo from GitHub direct to my local (mac) here, edited some stuff and ran a commit & sync. Files are still listed as Unsynced Commits here. Looking at your repository on GitHub it does show as read-only.
Just ran a local to GitHub sync again, I'm seeing changes to readme and demo, and now conflicts for index.txt

argh dammit. my bad, I clearly also do not understand friggin GitHub (which is giving me the shits). It looks like collaborators DO need to fork a copy themselves(!); I also found a thread on StackOverflow as well as the one above, about syncing your local copy with the master fork ffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu........!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry about this

Index page updated - covers 273/1204 pages I've defined my files as definitive for the sake of updating - apologies if I've trampled anyone's carefully crafted update with one of my own: it's all GitHub's fault... Next up: implementing snipergirl's sophisticated selection But first I work off my pent-up rage by giving the lawn a haircut ;)

Hey when you were working off your fork how did you submit things to my repo?

Whut? It's eaten my reply again > Hey when you were working off your fork how did you submit things to my repo? Pull request, just like it says in the help. But then I can't see a way 'inverse pull' to update my fork from your definitive state with others' updates.

(snipergirl, hold that email) also you've added some tags since i did 844-900 last night so my new tags/definitions may have some overlap

The way I did it was to do the edits in text file, then do a sync in the github program to ensure you don't erase someone elses work, then commit your edits, then sync again to upload them. It worked for me in the end with sniper girl talking me through every step!
Ch21 done and synced with the main file earlier btw. I'll work forward from here later this evening, so Ch 22 onwards. Ooh a flashback chapter.
EDIT: RE robots. I would assume that generic robots just get the robots tag, but named ones (sereph series, boxbot, robox, doorbot, etc) get their own tag? I suppose just think about what people are likely to want to search for.

Agree w. philman re robot tagging. I think that SRobot or SSeries would be the best because that's how we know of them (S1, M1, etc are specific named robutts for the RobotTomb, and I had to think a bit to remember what a seraph was) and the description could say that it's a seraph/angel shaped robutt? -> however whatever everyone thinks is more recognisable/sensible will do me Thanks spritz, phil, louis, morph for the edits Seeing the gaps fill in is wunderbar! And louis, your python-fu has inspired me to learn more python! I tried reverse engineering your gun.py just for learning purposes and i am really impressed with how beautiful writing it is, and fast! No more PHP for me unless i have to!

Robots: They need tagging with both the generic (Robots) - because they are robots and should not be excluded from the wider group - and specific (Seraph or whatever model) - 'cause people may want to search on either. Any page with Robot should, logically, also be tagged Robots. That's what I've done with the Seraph model anyway. I did, in passing, find a reference to that style from Kat as Seraph so that's what I'm going with for now. I'll add credits to spritznar, morpheus and philman to the page credits. Just to better show the gaps we have yet fill I've put up all the chapter pages Python-fu: not really, I just like the look'n'feel of it compared with, say, Ruby or Perl, but I merely dabble.
