I am quite relieved to not have any sort of April Fool's shenanigans on Gunnerkrigg. I'm also very excited by what this chapter could possibly contain. Catalyst is a strong word.
Personally, I'm really super hoping for another chapter that details events in either Jeanne's or Surma's timeline.

April Fools! We haven't really returned to our scheduled programming. More City Face drawings to come.

I find it funny that I should find this comic not a day before a new Chapter & Treatise gets going! I'd best get settled in before hopping on the Speculation Train, but I can't wait to see what this chapter will hold after everything that happened last.

I'm pretty sure that's a bird's foot/claws (three face forward, one backwards, whereas Coyote's looked more like a human hand). Maybe this will be Kat understanding the robot code?

Yes that doesn't look like Coyote at all. A dinosaur? Well, no telling since we don't really know what they look like anyway (wink).
Catalyst is an intriguing title. In a chemical reaction - it's something that helps the reaction move in a certain direction, without getting used-up, that is something incidental to what the real situation is in the long run, but which helps things along.
We've seen lots of catalysts before - but none with a foot like that.

The icon for this chapter is interesting too:

Catalyst Cat-alyst Kat-alyst? Maybe? We do have a few unanswered questions in regards to Kat at the moment. It's a bit of a coincidence It might not be Coyote's claw too, might be a Tictoc's claw (I hope). It also ask the question; why does Coyote have claws anyway? The icon for this chapter is interesting too: Dang, beat me too it. It looks like a marble

It looks like it might be some kind of SEED. Some kind of elemental Seed. Perhaps a Sulfur Seed?

What with last chapter's cliffhanger centering on Kat, it seems logical that this will be about Kat as well. And the bird's claw makes me wonder if we will see that bird-boy again after all. Unless Tom has stated that we won't? I don't remember. I know it said she would never see him again in the comic, but by now I think we're caught up to the point of time Annie was narrating from, so maybe she exaggerated for dramatic effect.

Definitely a marble on the forest floor. But who lost it?

Definitely a marble on the forest floor. But who lost it? *rimshot* ;D Well, Ysengrin is missing some of his, as we know...

First page of Chpt 42 posted on 1st of April and no joke? I'm a bit disappointed. The claw looks more talon/eagle/somethinglikethat than crane to me. I kinda doubt Aly will be back. Definitely a marble on the forest floor. But who lost it? Ysengrin is losing his marbles in the forest... edit: Definitely a marble on the forest floor. But who lost it? *rimshot* ;D Well, Ysengrin is missing some of his, as we know... damn it, beat me to it...

It's Coyote, buddy!) The whole chapter will be devoted to April Fools. Coyote didn't have scales, the last time I checked. That looks like a talon of a bird of prey, or else some reptilian fantasy creature. Whatever it is, it sure is ominous. I expect that we'll start the chapter with completely different characters and don't find out about Kat's letter until the end, if even then.

The Return of Aly My my, this one got thrown out of left field. It's clearly a bird reference, but a catalyst of what sort? Maybe Kat gets a chapter where she gets pushed over the edge, like Annie in Fire Spike.

It looks like it might be some kind of SEED. Some kind of elemental Seed. Perhaps a Sulfur Seed? Seed Bismuth is what I immediately thought of too, but I seriously doubt Tom would put it in the icon before we saw such an important thing in the comic. Unless it's just another "artist's representation." Pretty sure it's just a normal marble though. At first (after dismissing the seed bismuth idea) I thought it was a little satchel with a red ribbon tying it shut, but upon closer inspection it appears to be a glass marble and the red is just refracted light. Zoomed in image:

Most glass marbles have colored bits inside, like this:
Edit: OH! The red above and below the marble! I didn't even notice that. *facepalm* I'll remove the image since it's huge.

Jones did say that she saw the dinosaurs, and Annie seemed quite interested to find out more. I thought of it as a funny thing when I first read it, but seeing the picture...maybe this chapter will add a bit more depth to those words.

Assuming it's from a real creature, that's a bird of prey pigeon bird we're seeing, not a dinosaur.

Hmm, a bird on the title page (albeit a different type of bird than Aly), a cat's eye marble, Cat-alyst, Kat... I'm starting to see a theme here...

Perhaps, the "catalyst" is Andrew knocking a single thing out of place in the forest. Snowballing, reveals, and hilarity ensue. I'm really hoping for a Tic-toc chapter, though.
