I find the panel with the robot angels "Seraphs" overlooking our interpid heroes quite disconcerning. Looks very much like a trap. On the other hand I would like to learn what robot did that was so very wrong.

Four Seraphs, standing on a rafter, O-B-S-E-R-V-I-N-G...

If subterfuge is at hand, maybe robot isn't the intended target. He is looking pretty baity.

Whimsical as they may be, not even these robots are dumb enough to just give themselves away for no reason. It's clearly a trap, but what are they after?

This page wasn't so long ago, with its attendant warning. I can't help but think that Kat might be about to get a wakeup call also. I think that might be a good experience for her; Annie has had her fair share (to say the least,) and a "holy-crap-things-just-got- real" situation would serve to grow her up some. Not that I think she is childish per se or needs growing up, but experiences like that are just catalysts for maturation. That's all.

So...definitely a trap, then?

What I find funny is the signs "not" and "NO" pasted on the sign. That implies that the original sign said "secret base" and "Welcome" and "robots here".

I'm still having a hard time wrapping my mind around the last panel. It's pretty and I love the art effect, but the light bloom from the windows around Shadow2's head just makes my head spin when I try to grok it. Light bending around shadow-made-volumetric? How does that work? The physics behind it give my brain segfaults, and it all looks somehow fundamentally wrong. Maybe it's because I've always pictured/considered shadow as perfectly black. "It's like, how much more black could he be? and the answer is none. None more black." And yet here he is on this page, and there's light blooming around him, so now he's grayish on the edge, even if it's only an artistic effect. And that throws me. Given that he's a personification of shadow rather than simply a comparative absense of light, it seems like his makeup (whatever that is) would almost absorb and negate light rather than him being washed out as happens in this panel. Of course, I'm completely overthinking things as usual.

Bloom isn't light bending, though...it's basically due to saturation of the viewing sensor (CCD, retina, whatever), right? There's so much bloom over shadow specifically because of how perfect his blackness is, and the contrast that gives to the blindingly white light behind him.

And now we'll see if Annie learned much more than cobbling in the Wood. If yes, she tracks the upper levels and is about to give Seraphs a dirty look, spread a web of fire before them and say "uh, guys? don't" or something like this.

The chains go way the hell up into the ceiling; I'm thinking it's a trap, like they're ready to yank him away or something.

I know she has something up her sleeve that's just as devastating or greater than Annie's human matchstick trick.

Heh, Annie reminds me of Surma in this page. I for one would like to see the Seraphs try to attack Annie and Kat only to promptly get their metallic rear ends kicked by the girls. Don't forget, Annie knows Kung-Fu.

All this expecting 14 year old girls to defeat wolf-tree-demons and killer robots might be overestimating their abilities a bit.

They snapped robot's arm like a twig. I know Annie and Kat are kickass, but I don't think we've ever actually seen them kick ass. Strictly speaking it's not a kick, it's an impact of expanding vapors from explosively vaporizing material on surface. All this expecting 14 year old girls to defeat wolf-tree-demons and killer robots might be overestimating their abilities a bit. I refer you to the page 807. Antimony didn't try to blast 'Grin directly because sees him as a friend when not nuts (and he may be magic-resistant anyway). She somewhat respects robots' "life", but doesn't know these Seraphs from a good side, if any. She's also well aware that slagging half of a 'bot isn't such a big deal as long as CPU survives and with all the practice probably is deft enough to spot-weld them all immobile before they notice something is wrong. So... I don't think that's necessarily where this situation is heading, but yes, Annie is the one who can lay down the law via direct use of firepower, if need be, and doing this won't trouble her too much (during or after).

However, when one of them is some sort of divine robot and the other is part fire elemental, I think we don't want to call them helpless just yet.

People are forgetting that it's not just 2 girls who are walking into that warehouse but 2 girls, Reynard and Shadow. The way Coyote talks, Reynard is of a similar strength to Coyote so the odds are actually against the robots. However, that would not be very interesting so I think the robots have more tricks up their sleeves.
For example, I think they want to lose this fight. That may look like Robot but there's no guarantee that is. I suspect bait is actually a spy and, like the tie fighters sent after the Millenium Falcon in the original Star Wars film, the other robots are only there to make the rescue seem convincing.

I wouldn't take that as a fair measure of Annie's abilities. Sure, it shows her potential power, but that doesn't mean she could conjure up a similar firestorm now. Remember, under normal conditions Annie is a rather reserved individual; keeping herself under tight self-control. Replicating the conditions of that event would require her to relinquish that control, which would be very hard for her to do even if she tried. So, yes the potential is there, but without training/practice Annie isn't going to vaporize anything soon.
