Hey Everyone, First time to post. I really enjoy Tom's stories and his take on a fantasy world.
Judging by how much that couch cushion is bowing I would say Jones is around the same weight as Eglamore....While his weight is distributed, if he were to sit upright like Jones I would think his cushion would give about the same as hers.
Also I would assume this is Eglamores' place. There are medals and knives on the shelf, and while Jones can be awesome at everything she does, I don’t see why she would treasure such things.
If there isn't another flash back I would assume this is where they talk about a suitable replacement for Surma. I think Jones wants it to be Antimony, and James may disagree thinking she is too immature. Then Jones will call him out on having feelings for Surma and only wanting to protect Annie.
Who knows?! It's going to feel like a long weekend waiting on some resolution.

I wonder if Tom will explain to us who she is through these flashbacks, but leave Annie hanging. That would be a nice change of pace. Edit: ryanandybob Nice catch! I suspect Tom will explain (if anyone asks), that they put some kind of extra support under the couch cushion, for her sake (and the couch's).

Question: Jones, what are you? Answer: More woman than you'll ever be. </snark> If you listen closely, you can hear the shippers squeeing. SQUEE!

Did anyone notice the t-shirt Tom has for sale of the "Golem Heart"? As far as I know, there are no Golems in the comic.... could this be a reference to Jones? (if there is actually a Golem in the comic and I just forgot about it, I apologize!)

What I really want to know is, what is Jones reading? (If you say a book, I'll...get mildly irritated but be unable to do anything because you're on the other side of the internet.) She's got a third of a dozen books there, only two of which have similar bindings.
Is she doing research? Perhaps it's Jules Verne or something fun like that? Or a different genre entirely? (I don't know what I'd do if if were romance; such a trashy genre in general, but the idea of Jones reading it makes me laugh.)
I wonder if these books came from the closed-door part of the library, where Annie and Kat found the entrance to Basil's time-share?

1: Whatwhat what. 2: ...He's just going to keep flashing back every page for the rest of the chapter, isn't he? Which could be illuminating if the flashback periods get progressively longer. "One century ago..." Yes, exactly.

Am I the only one who thought that was the headmaster lying in her lap?
Seriously, my first thoughts were that the headmaster looks good in casual clothes.

Since the pages are going backwards in telling the story, I came up with a new interpretation of the pages so far.
Eglamore spends time with Jones telling her about the rescue of Antimony, then Jones tells the headmaster that Antimony should be the medium, then she goes to tell Antimony and Antimony asks what she is, then the title page gives the answer: "The Stone."

(His name is Jonathan, previous page.) The little side wrinkles and such, the way it segued into this flashback from the headmaster chat... On closer inspection though, this guy seems a bit more buff around the arms than Mr. Loose Clothes normally does.

Jones is Prism from Flaky Pastry. Except not a robot.

I'm sure it's an artefact of the funny viewing angle, but I could swear it looks like Jones has two right feet...

And thus, all hopes from the first page for a straightforward answer are dashed... Idunno, this is actually telling me quite a bit about Jones. More than that, this is a really nice scene depicted. It's so... cozy. The colors are reminiscent of firelight. Not the sort of feel you might have imagined Jones inhabiting, if you still thought she was similar to a robot. Each of these pages is showing us a little snapshot of an aspect of Jones and her life. We might not hear some new word for what she is, but either way we'll find out plenty about her. This is much more informative than "I'm a ______".

(if there is actually a Golem in the comic and I just forgot about it, I apologize!) Sorry, there are. Diego's original robot models were all actually golems, as explained a few chapters ago. Tom has also unfortunately confirmed that Jones is not a golem. Anyway, this is an unexpectedly cozy setting. I wonder all this buildup is for...

Also note that Jones is leaning on the armrest of the couch... she could be supporting most of her weight through her arm, thus leaving only say 50 lbs to compress the cushion. The armrest, being hard and sturdy, would look the same whether Jones arm was supporting 5 lbs or 500 lbs of force.

The mystery, of Jones, might be solved by a series of questions: What are you? Why did you come? Why do you stay? What do you do?
So, now we're getting them answered backwards. Maybe this is Jones in her mind thinking of how she should answer Annie's question.
She advises the court. Eglamore is why she's staying (no, she wont' tell Annie that, it's not her business). Next, how she came here/where she's from.
Were we to get an flat answer, the other questions might need to come anyway.
Sideline: I wonder if she's in some ways like Chang'e?

(if there is actually a Golem in the comic and I just forgot about it, I apologize!) All Robots created by Diego were Golems, well not true golems (no souls bound to them, but in many other ways they pretty much were) they did have hearts much the same and there code was practically fractal. The mystery, of Jones, might be solved by a series of questions: What are you? Why did you come? Why do you stay? What do you do? And you missed an important question: Who is your daddy and what does he do?

(not a surprise though, but still) !!! Considering their interaction like, 20 chapters back, I'm only surprised that they're back "together," even if Jones is not "beholden" to anyone. I imagine Eggers just enjoys the female companionship. I feel like his character is one that still misses Surma, and wouldn't be in another serious relationship until he got over that (if ever??). The newspaper and single plate is something I noticed only the second time I looked at it. :B

My thoughts exactly. Why am I so terrible jealous of Jones? Why am I so terrible jealous of Eggers? I love me a serious woman. I'll second that. I love me a woman who reads. They're a rare and precious commodity where I live, so when I see a young woman reading Edger Allen Poe or something similar, I have to stop and have a chat. About the most ambitious thing you'll see a girl cracking open around here is the back issues of Cosmopolitan in the barbershop. To be fair, an even larger percentage of the guys don't read AT ALL. ...cuz books are fer nerds! I swear, sometimes it's enough to drive me up the wall.

She probably put those books there on purpose so she could stay occupied when this happens.

This page is a pleasant surprise. I love it when Tom decides to go all-out on a page, and this one is just beautiful. (It does kind of look like Jones has two right feet, though.)
Edit: Hah! I just noticed Jimmy Jims has a glass case with knives in it. Too cool.
I thought the scene was cute but I still don't feel like Jones has very many feelings toward Eglamore. Actually... never mind, she's fiddling with his hair. Or maybe it's just something to keep her other hand occupied. I really can't tell. Even when you think you've got an answer, the mystery persists. TOMMMMM!
