MAYBE she's a constellation he created! Or maybe she's just something we haven't encountered yet. I kinda hope that's the case.

What, no trip to the village to see her friends?
*sigh*
You're no fun, Coyote. Such a taskmaster.

Maybe Jones is a fallen star. Maybe she's a crash-landed, body-snatching alien.

"The stars in the night sky, the prints on the moon"
What we have just received is the encrypted message. Jones is the key, which Ysengrin has given to Annie, but which Tom has not given to us!

hmm so Jones is also The Great Spirit? The great spirit is indeed portrayed as an eye here and here. If not the great spirit itself, maybe Jones is some kind of agent on its behalf? Not taking sides directly, but operating on the spirit's agenda? Edit: As in, Jones is the Great Spirit's wandering eye. Hmm? (also, first post! been lurking awhile, and now I speak)

This is either going to be amazing or utterly disappointing in it's lack of real answers.

Well, according to a recent interview Tom gave (link is on a thread in this forum) the near future of the comic will be focused on Jones, so I'm hoping for revelations abound!

That's it. I'm taking this as confirmation that Jones is The Great Spirit.
Did anybody guess this before this page? If so, major props!

Cue start of next chapter, Annie walking out of Jones' office saying "That was very enlightening, thankyou Ms Jones. I especially liked the part about the stars."

I doubt Jones is the great spirit, from what Coyote is saying here it sounds like Jones is a fallen star. Stars could be said to be eyes in the sky watching over us, and a shooting star would be something that get's people's imaginations RACING. Suddenly the fallen star is a person, impartial, quiet, and observant.

Jones is the Great Bird of the Galaxy. Calling it now. But seriously, could mean we're getting some exposition on Jones soon. Which will probably raise more questions than it answers...

I seem to have forgot a story detail. When Annie says "Ysengrin told me about Jones", what is she referring to?

I seem to have forgot a story detail. When Annie says "Ysengrin told me about Jones", what is she referring to? That time when Ysengrin explained what Jones is to Annie.

That's it. I'm taking this as confirmation that Jones is The Great Spirit. I'm more inclined to think that she may be a part of the Great Spirit -- a wandering eye, if you will. Also, Coyote looks extra creepy in panel 5. Someone needs to write new dialogue there, in the vein of: "You like these? I got more in my van right over there..."

So, Wandering Eye is something that at first glance disproves Coyote's story but in truth proves it.

Suddenly the fallen star is a person, impartial, quiet, and observant. And, incidentally, rather heavy. :)

Jones is a robot that became a god when it refused to help a tortoise in the desert.

I think Jones is just like Coyote -- but where Coyote is the explanations that Man came up with for natural events he couldn't explain, Jones is the myths that Man came up with for what happens to their ancestors (they're watching down from above; they become the stars in the sky, &c.) And she's super-dense because scientists also have figured out the nature of stars, so their beliefs as they die have inbued her with some of those properties as well. So she has some of the density of a neutron star physically, while having the calm, collected "wisdom" and impartiality of those who are departed from this realm of existance making up her personality. Also, I wonder what the significance is of the stars in Coyote's hand being the Pleiades?

Look at Coyote, being all regal pointer-dog-like.
Jones is Odin's lost eye. She looks enough like Brinnie that my brain's lumped her in with the Norse contingent since then.

www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=489Is Jones Arcturus? For one, it resolves the issue of why Coyote calls her Wandering Eye (she's the eyeball he threw into the sky which now travels independently of him). Secondly, it supports the idea that when she's not eating, sleeping, or working, she observes (as a star in the sky, constantly watching). Thirdly, could explain why it's so hard for anyone to explain what she is (she's an eyeball which became a star which became a human-thing that now works at the Court). Fourthly, also explains why there was a need for that comment in that comic in the first place. Fifthly, also corroborates with the whole asking Jones about the stars in the night sky thing. Also created an account just to post my theory on this heh

Suddenly the fallen star is a person, impartial, quiet, and observant. If Jones is a star, she's a *WANDERING* Star - i.e. a Planet (from the origin of the word). Now which planet could she be? Of course stars have symbols associated with them...

She's obviously the wandering eye....OF A POTATO!!! I feel like a potato eye would have a Jones-like personality. If that makes sense.
