I entirely agree with you, here. They're really in the same place as Annie and Kat- they have a lot of romantic chemistry, but it's still at a level that would make sense for close friends.

2: She's an affectionate person, physically speaking, and is comfortable enough with that to hug her friend even if it will make people think they're a couple. Earlier in the chapter, Kat was uncomfortable with Annie being affectionate with her (probably because of Paz' insinuation that she was a lesbian and her discomfort of what others think about her sexuality, teenage insecurity, bleh), but now she is comfortable being affectionate with Annie again, inspired by Robby and Shadow 3D's friendship Seeing their friendship and almost losing Robot and Shadow probably made her see that it doesn't really matter what people think of you, just love the people/creatures you love! This was a much better way for Kat to come to that realization than Annie to talk her out of her insecurity, so I'm glad that my original prediction didn't come true This whole chapter is about appreciating those you love - definitely DAWWW worthy! Now where's my holiday print with all these kids? This is spot on exactly how I read this page. It made me really happy to see Kat once again learn an important lesson and not feel the need to state it out loud, but simply show it through her actions. Also Shadow and Robot are the cutest ever and I love them.

I would assert that it's entirely possible for people to love each other to such an extent without romance or sexuality being a part of it at all, without being hated off the map for suggesting it.

I think that Kat and Annie are best friends. ... I'll show myself out. I also think Kat and Annie are best friends. And that girls at that age (and older) commonly hold hands and hug without meaning anything romantic. I'll see you outside ;D Meanwile, thirding the sentiment that this chapter ended up in a very different place to where it seemed to be going with the sword practice and the planning for Jeanne.

The more I think about it the more I am convinced of two things: - Being part of Coyote, through the tooth Coyote has heard all that went on there (she got the tooth in Chapter 20 and the confrontation with Jeanne, including her explaining it to Parley and Smitty, happened in Chapter 30).
- Coyote cut Shadow off the floor to bring them to this moment as somehow he knows that Parley being able to show affection is important in the coming fight.
I apologise if anybody else has already stated the above.
