Wow. that move goes beyond machine reflexes. Perhaps diego programmed Seraph class with all of Jeanne's moves? He did watch her for a very long time.
I agree Parley is looking cute. like a kid who just discovered candy.

This has got to be the first time I've been simultaneously up early enough and with sufficient time to say something in a comic thread in the morning.
I'm not sure where Parley is coming from with this, in a sense, if she is quickly defeated each time - but I get the impression that this page and the next - or at least a subsequent one - together will show Parley improving her skills from the exercise. In which case, her reaction here makes more sense to me.

Well, hey, if she's planning on coming back alive after facing Jeanne, even as a defensive tactic, I doubt she'd begrudge Robot actually giving her all he's got. At least she'll know what to expect from an advantaged foe actually going in for the kill.
That, and it is pretty dang cool.

On a side note: What would happen if someone was severely injured/dismembered/run through by Ghost!Jeanne? Annie seems to be permanently scarred in the ether , but physically she was perfectly well as soon as Jeanne was gone. [Link1] [Link2]A minor cut wouldn't have much consequence anyway so we might simply not see what an major injury received in the ether would do physically. But what if something worse happened?

Not to mention that Parley has already proven herself to be agile in the Ether and has gotten a taste of Jeannes ability as well. It would also be debateable if Jeanne is not fully in control of her actions there. Toloc: Yea, and Coyote himself said that it was created by something very powerful, however Jeanne could have killed Annie right there and then, but she didn't. So there could be other things going on about her or the device that we don't know about or understand at this time.

Robot is not used to being a sparring partner I guess. I'm guessing some of the robots were programmed/instructed to be subservient to people especially students in the court. S13 more than any other because of Annie and Kat. I'm not sure where Parley is coming from with this, in a sense, if she is quickly defeated each time - but I get the impression that this page and the next - or at least a subsequent one - together will show Parley improving her skills from the exercise. In which case, her reaction here makes more sense to me. Ever keep playing a level in a video game trying something new each time, trying to see how much longer you live? Parley is learning ways to counter Robots superior strength and speed, and the obvious knowledge of a sword he has. Few people use a rapier's flexible blade to their advantage. We have to take into account that Annie being a medium and having a serious link to the ether might play a part in this too. If she or Parley had been skewered when there astrally through the stone they surely would've died, the body not being able to live without a spirit/soul. Which is suggestive. The physical slash is gone but the etheral one is still visible as if it was fresh. I'm inclined to think a more serious wound would be more serious. Jeanne's angry spirit turned into a guardian is probably why nothing can cross, she'll kill anything that intrudes.

Theres a timespan of 30+, 40+ or even 50+ years between Jeannes death (Diego was probably in his 20s, 30s at the time) and Diego dying of old age. We don't know how old he was when he died, but him being at least in his 70s+ is reasonable for the time period.

Few people use a rapier's flexible blade to their advantage. It's considered cheating, if I recall correctly. ... The main problem Parley seems to have is she's trying to fence in two time with a fairly heavy sword. However, it wasn't until the late 17th early 18th century that two time fencing became practical - with the invention of lighter, shorter weapons than the sort of rapiers that had mostly dominated the last hundred odd years. Edit: Clarifying 'sort of' rapiers. The transitional rapier was generally shorter, (also lighter and with the balance further back towards the hilt.) But, as with most subjects like this, it's more a rule of thumb than an absolute; as I recall there were some French rapiers of the middle era that were light enough for some double time fencing significantly earlier than it became popular.

If the other guy is trying to kill you, anything which foils his dastardly plan is fair game: "if you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined", as they say. ;D

That's why they bend Rapiers for the purpose of hurting people, unlike the modern sports rapier, were fairly heavy rigid weapons, intended to be thrust into the opponent's body.

Double time fencing? No idea what you're talking about here.
Also you make it sound like Parley is having Robot practice with the wrong kind of weapon since S1 was using a sword similar to the one that Jeanne has. Which I guess is actually a rigid rapier and not a fencing foil or 'rapier'.

The oldest surviving bot of Diego was the one that recorded video of Jeanne I'm guessing he didn't devote his life to the robots that make life easier and safer at the court, til after her death, before then they were trinkets, toys, and games. Jeanne treated Diego's inventions as...insignificant anyway, look how easily she smashed them to pieces. She wouldn't learn anything from them. The image she portrayed of a "strong warrior forced into finery" means she'd have to be using her sword probably since a young age.

It's possible that the progenitor robots (the ones in the tomb) were made later, however, here we see a workshop with larger parts, so he could be in the early stages at that point. Until they find a diary or somesuch, any additional historical information about Diego is locked up in the memories of the progentor robots who want to stay dead.

Double time fencing? No idea what you're talking about here. I'm talking about whether you pause or not. Double time fencing is generally characterised by parry (deflection) and riposte (counter attack.) If you deflect the other person's blade and then strike at them as two separate movements with a pause inbetween, then that's double time fencing. One time or single time fencing, by comparison, is characterised by one continuous movement that - ideally - carries through to hit your opponent without a pause. It's difficult, if not impossible, to do double time fencing with a heavy blade. Your blade is slower, so getting your blade into position to parry an attack can be difficult. And, even where you do manage the parry, the other girl can generally just step out of the way and try again as your riposte is similarly slow. It was a fairly common practice for people to pair their rapiers with daggers to try and make up for the its shortcomings in that regard. The general tactic, for single time, was to provoke an attack and strike through or around that attack - if necessary knocking their blade off course with your own on the way to your target. Also you make it sound like Parley is having Robot practice with the wrong kind of weapon since S1 was using a sword similar to the one that Jeanne has. Which I guess is actually a rigid rapier and not a fencing foil or 'rapier'. Robot may have picked it himself - could just be what he's used to. It is nice to have experience with/about what the other girl's using. I'm not sure how the safety would work out for Robot whacking/poking Parley with a rigid thing. Probably hurt a lot.
