It keeps saying connection refused. Is the server down? Restarted the server. Try now.

Actually, I think the Yogscast uses actual players disguised as NPCs. If I remember rightly the Adventure server in which they do Shadow of Israphael uses as few mods as possible, in which yes they do have real ppl disguised as npcs. But on there public server (which is shared with some RP group) they have a plugin that allows them to place Static NPCs, if you watch the Best of Weekend of Minecraft for Yogscast they show it off a bit.

can has as a poll? I vote for Koplee based on looks, although to scale everything else around may will take considerable effort.

I prefer Koplee's, but it's 72 blocks high right now and the current distance from bridge level to sky limit is only 55 blocks. So even if we make it a few blocks shorter we're gonna have to move the bridge and then the ravine sides down. (the river bottom is at about y=19, so theoretically the whole thing could be moved down, but that would be hard with worldedit)

Actually doing it is no problem, it'd take half an hour tonight to do it. We need to set a closing time for the poll. I'd draw it, like, at ten votes or six hours from now, whichever comes first? people, please do vote on the poll. I think Koplee's entrance will win overwhelmingly, it's just better proportioned. There's, however, a couple of problems with it. 1) The old entrance is even-sized, while koplee's odd sized. Solvable in one minute, but still worth of consideration. We can't just copy-paste it, because then symmetry of the buildings surrounding it would be broken. No worries anyways. 2) Koplee's much taller then the old one, and it solves it by positioning itself much lower, to avoid hitting the ceiling. It's not a problem in itself, but to accommodate the new origin plane we will need to shift down the entire map, or anyways the whole court side of the cliff. Thus, the bridge too, and the forest. I have a reason when i ask people not to explore areas if not needed, and this is exactly it: shifting the whole map down is easy if the map itself is small, but the larger it grows, the more problematic it becomes. I'll be forced to work on MCEdit, probably, and i don't like that at ALL. Feel free to skip this little wall of text if you prefer-i'm often verbose and boring, but i need to justify why i'm not happy of enlarging the map size without a good reason (exploring is not a good reason, considered we'll be hellrazing everything of the natural terrain anyways. Building the Court is one good reason). Class is also boring and i have time to waste. So, let's start! [boring professor] A chunk is 16x16x128 blocks in size. If we're going to go for a modification that is efficient, we should modify whole chunks at a time. Trust me, doing otherwise is worse. 32768 blocks for every chunk. The Annan Waters is about 30 chunks long or so. That would be about 350 blocks long. It is about six chunks wide, and that makes it 180 chunks in total, more or less. Not even trying to count the forest or other court buildings, this means moving about 5898240. Yes, about six million blocks. If we don't move whole chunks, due to how stuff works, we end up acting on the same number of blocks anyways, because MCEdit always rewrites whole chunks for consistence and efficiency. Considering to do it in the server is pure madness, it would just crash. It's not as simple as erasing the blocks or substituting them with some other material. Not even simple as moving a file. We need to analyze, copy and rebuild the block data. That amounts to, giving rough estimates, an integer for the block id and a byte for the data value (color etc.). If Notch did everything with an eye to performance, i hope the blocks ID is on two bytes tops. Three bytes for every block, times six million, makes for eighteen million bytes to analyze and modify. If we equate the blocks data to words (i know it's not accurate AT ALL, but it helps get a grasp on the size) it would be like... translating something thirty-forty times the size of War and Peace from russian to english. Just for the immediate area of the annan waters, and we'll have to do it for the whole map or nearly so. [/boring professor] And all this work will be done in silence without a complaint (except, it then crashes) by my poor computer. Please keep the map slim and trim. Signed, -Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderm...Giant Crab Engineer

People, could we please try offloading such a discussion into the wiki? Someone (I'm very busy at the moment, unfortunately ) should create a page dedicated to Main Gate project and set up info/discussion there. Adding [[Module Comments]] into the page source will create an in-page forum thread. ------------ To those who hear of the wiki for the first time: to edit it, you must have a wikidot account and provide a join password. The password is something terrible from GC (1 word, lowercase). Edit: this was done by a kind soul. This is an important step in the organisation of the project; the single-forum-thread planning model won't cut it. Please don't stop at this; help fill the wiki with content.

Even if you don't think anyone likes something that is no excuse to fill it with TNT. Some Humpty filled that dorm concept (the wooden one) with TNT, doing that kind of thing without permission is known as griefing, and we shan't accept it on our server. I fixed it by flooding the dorm with water then setting them off, as water negates the block damage that TNT does (then I took away the water.) -------------------------Update-----------------------------I've added a few more pages to Wikidot and filled in some blank pages, they aren't all full yet, as need someone to fill in some more information and add some screen-shots.

I could probably get some screenshots of the various locations. Also, two questions: 1) If I were to plan out a street design on the map, would there be a way to actually follow that design without having to measure every pixel/block? Or would it just be more beneficial to start building in game and just make sure all the streets are equal width and spaced apart nicely. 2) Where would the streets be positioned around the court? I know the the court is very large and is going to be expanded, so I was thinking that the town/streets would be by the square lake, which I'm assuming is the artificial lake.
Edit: The password to join the wiki doesn't seem to be working for me. somethingterrible , right? I see what you did there.

@georgie: Do you have any idea about who did it? I'm low tolerance against griefers. A server in which i was before was heavily griefed by a cheater. I didn't like that. Anyways, don't worry, i think i have your dorms backed up. As soon as i catch him, Heads will roll.Xaien: 1) I guess we can do both. Try to follow the design but being extremely precise is not necessary. Streets are not extremely precise in the Court, i think. They're old, and needing no cars, the...Courtesans...don't need them to be perfectly straight or anything. I guess we could extend the /cast powers to normal users for the purpose of street-making. /cast recur can serve as a surface painter on grass. Goofanader, what's your opinion on this? From an adminy standpoint, my idea was to "paint on" the basic street framework from an external editor during a downtime, once i find an adequate map. It would reduce the work tenfold. I expected more feedback on the maps, and more help on this endeavor. I am nothing but a tool of the Greater Good, and thus it would be bad if i do everything on my own without you guys giving feedback. I am disappoint in you guys. 2) the streets would ideally be radial, expanding from the old center if this was real. Nobody would really notice if they are not, so do as you wish. There's no telling how big everything will be, and the lake is...not even plotted on the map, we can move it without problem. Don't let it influence you. As far as large goes, i think "much larger than what your eye can see with zero fog" large. That's why plotting out the biggest streets first is absolutely important. They need to form a framework in which to do the rest.

Hope I'm not too late to vote. I vote to keep the current entrance. The entrance doesn't need to be huge, and besides, we need to make it look relatively small compared to when we make this - www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=635 I think that's probably the tallest building in the Court, we might need to have the rest of the Court sloping gently away from entrance to give the desired effect. Maybe, I don't know how feasible that is.

Just so everyone knows, server admins have the power to look at the server.log and read EVERYTHING you say and some things you do. There's also a plugin that lets us see EXACTLY everything you do, but it's not been implemented on our server. I was hoping we wouldn't have to do such a thing, but if worse comes to worse, it'll be implemented. So, I'd suggest not being a griefer/doing rude things/etc., or I'll make sure you won't get on this server again. Can my two friends get whitelisted? Minecraft names are Soulzzz and soulfox Added. Mind if I become an OP? I'd like to start on some of the various streets and whatnot. I also made those two entrances in the Grand Hall. *Wink wink nudge nudge* Opped. I think 10 votes are good enough? That's what we're currently at. It's 9 for Koplee, 1 for original. If you guys think we should run the voting longer, I'll keep it going. However, be aware that I can't close the voting until Sunday Pacific Time. I'll be busy until then. :< Also, let me know if anyone who I've said is whitelisted is suddenly not. Minecraft is weird about the physical whitelist and making it in-game. -_- EDIT: Apparently, I can't count. It's actually 9 votes total, but still: 8 votes for Koplee, 1 for original. That's a pretty big majority, so I think I'll close it anyway.

Giant rampaging boxbot has been backed up in a separate file and stashed for future use.
The swap with Koplee's front has been commenced. Please don't attempt to help, because it's quite a delicate matter. Fortunately everything is backed up twice. Stay away from the inside of the court entrance for now, i'd like to do it myself. If i need help i'll ask immediately.
