well, its hard to determine the gender of a snake (the yellow sclera, slitted pupil, "fangs" and extreme lankiness all strongly suggest former residence in the suborder Serpentes...)

Anthony tackles the existential questions. The original comic "Loss" was about the author's grief after a miscarriage and it makes me extremely uncomfortable every time people continue to joke about that meme.

The original comic "Loss" was about the author's grief after a miscarriage and it makes me extremely uncomfortable every time people continue to joke about that meme. Oh, it was about a real miscarriage? I thought it was fictional. Not to get too entangled in this: it was based on a previous (several years ago, and described as "toxic") relationship with an unwanted pregnancy and unexpected miscarriage ( blogpost about the comic). So it wasn't so much a "recent slice-of-life" of the artist, but felt very much like a "look at me, I'm an artist that can do heavy material! btw, next week back to the usual shenanigans.". To be fair, the story arc was a tiny bit longer (started somewhere in march, ended in june 2008 more or less), but it was so disjointed (it starts with a damn pee joke), and the artist already had a pretty big hate-club, so it was mocked and ridiculed instantly. So no, it wasn't really about "the grief after a miscarriage". IMO, keep on laughing about all things LOSS related, by now the meme is pretty much disconnected from the source material anyway.

I also dislike references to Loss, but in my case it's a matter of having the strip in question actually work emotionally. References to it normally come up devoid of context, so I am never sure what the referrer intends, but if it is a matter of mocking the strip in question it's not working since the original worked from my point of view. And mockery does not sit well with me, there is enough sadness in the world without people going out of their way to tear people down, in particular since I read it as an honest attempt to deal with heavier subjects, a rarity for that comic.

And I don't blame you for having that take. That is a valid interpretation.

These were meant to be all the guys we saw being taken to the ether at one point or another. I chose the ghost form mainly because I would have failed even more miserably at legs and clothes than I already did at other body parts – I would not consider Martin (top) a ghost either, if that's what you mean.
