Unlike Kat, who has a big nose. Allegedly. I never understood this part. Kat has always been drawn with a nose just like all the other characters, even from side profile. I know this was a mean dig at her Roma ethnicity, and Kat was probably hypersensitive to it because of that, but WHY? Does her nose actually look distinctly different to the other characters? Has Kat received comments like that previously? And why would Zimmy choose to make such a comment? |

Has Kat received comments like that previously? And why would Zimmy choose to make such a comment? You can see a slight difference here and there. Kat's nose is usually drawn with a wider underline than Annie's in frontal shots, and its tip is more gently curved in profile and 3/4 shots, whereas Annie's nose is more pointed at the tip. It's not like Parley's magnificent Nose That Launched A Thousand Smitts, but it's noticeable. (An unkind person might say "bulbous.") Kat probably has received comments about it, because of her unpopularity before Annie showed up. Winsbury was happy to make cracks about people's physical features when he was bullying them, e.g. Alistair's hairstyle. And you only have to hear stuff like that once for it to get stuck in your head. Someone in middle school said I had "bulgy eyes," a comment never repeated before or since by anyone, and it was part of my self-image for like the next five years. Zimmy would choose to make such a comment because she's often reflexively hostile and wards people off from her and Gamma with insults. Her powers let her read people's insecurities right out of their minds, after all. |
