Here comes your boyTriple 7s. That counts as a milestone. 223 to go to reach 1000 --------------- Does anyone else think Jeanne's expression reminds them of something? Also:-- Annan Water, The Decemberists

Young Annie's face when she decided not to be afraid of Martin's flames?

There is only a pair of steps to the truth.
Hm... Who are this two guys on the side?

Young Annie's face when she decided not to be afraid of Martin's flames? Nah, but I do feel we have seen that same expression with the head tilted forward before.

If this is the time of the meeting then the arrow should come flying down next page.

I just had a thought...
Elfboy wrote to Jeanne, that she would be free 3 hours past midnight. That means he arranged something to get her out of there.
What if he issued (or had issued by someone in the proper position) something like a request for parley with the court? Perhaps specifically requesting Jeanne to be sent (or she would be sent anyway if she was the court's medium at that time). This way, he could get her out of there.
The court then decided to use the opportunity to seal the Annan Waters for ethereal beings, by using a "ritual" that required Jeanne as sacrifice.*
Perhaps Jeannes reluctance to go down to the Waters was because she expected a different meeting place, but the Court insisted on the shore of the Annan Waters.
* it had to be Jeanne because her love to elfboy formed a strong link between the court and the forest that had to be broken - either because it established a real link in the ether or as a symbol, since alchemy is all about symbols and analogies.

If this is the time of the meeting then the arrow should come flying down next page. Keep in mind whatever happens happens 3 hours after Jeanne is lowered down. 3AM theory: Sticky Uppy Hair Elf Boy gets eaten by a fish and Jeanne has to fish him out. PERFECT SENSE.

Methinks the arrow hit Guy Green over there.
Way i figure it, I'm due for one of my wild (and generally ignored) speculations to be right.

Oh, help. Friday's page is going to be brutal, isn't it. (One sad, sad little digital cookie says that they shoot him dead in the middle of the river and deliberately leave her to die on the shore, both as part of the plan and as punishment/shame for loving a Gillitian, and his bond with Jeanne was what made her the "only" one suitable both as bait and as co-sacrifice and has something to do with why her ghost is still there.)

Yeah, this scene is definitely based on that part of the song.Heh.Only thing being that he didn't get to the river by riding a horse.(Or maybe he did,but that isn't too relevant anyway)

Well since I doubt it's gonna take Lord Greenskin over there three whole hours to swim across, my bet is that he gets over to her, hugs and kisses commence, and then Steadman shoots them both dead mid-coitus. Worst. Date. Ever.
Alternativelyyyy... hm. Well I guess maybe if Elfboy is at least somewhat high-ranking in the forest scheme of things, he may be able to do the whole soul transfer thing, right? I mean like making humans into forest denizens and vice-versa. So maybe Elfenstein waits until the witching hour (3AM) and then starts whatever process it is that allows humans to live as animals. Jeanne's soul is taken from her body to be put into that of a forest creature when suddenly BAM green glowing arrow out of nowhere shoots Elfers in the face and Jeanne's left hanging halfway out of her body. The Guides are royally confused because she's not really dead, just sort of not in her body anymore. Plus when her body finally does die, her soul isn't in it for some reason, so nobody can collect. Thus Jeanne's ghost gets nice and stuck on the Court side of the river, forever pissed off cause the last thing she remembers seeing is her lover get arrow'd to death.
And I guess the "she died waiting" thing would be her um, waiting for the ritual to finish? I dunno. Honestly I'm just typing this because it's 1AM and I've absolutely nothing better to do with my time.

Shouldn't these be called the Jeannan Waters, then? Will Jones fly off the handle when Antie and George recount this drama for her? Will she bat an eyelash, at least? She could make it quick.

Jones won't even bat an eyelid. And speaking of the song,I'm planning on making a music video/slideshow once more images of the flashback are availible.

I can't bear to read anyone's theories on this. I just know my heart lurched as I read today's page. I'm consumed with dread, I have no idea what's going down, and that's exactly how I like it.

Massive sense of forboding now. All we know is we're (probably) finally going to see one of the defining moments of the story, and it's not going to be pretty. The art in these last half-dozen strips has been amazing both as art and as storytelling. As good as anything Tom's done so far in the entire run of Gunnerkrigg Court I reckon.

This...this page is absolutely heartbreaking to me. My relationship with my fiance started out long distance, so this page where she finally gets to see him after however long of being separated? Hits a little close to home.
All the more awful knowing that something terrible's about to happen to them.
Um. Excuse me. I've...got someone I need to go hug now.

Oh boy, we're right on the edge of finding out just what happened down there. I think one of two things will happen: The Anaan waters are actually pretty wide and it does take him a while to cross, and he gets shot then. Jeanne's love is bound to him by love, so she can't leave even in death. Or as someone said before, they get shot while hugging as they meet. He's an etheric being the arrow is a OHKO, but she's left behind sealed to that place.

Soo, is the river THAT wide to actually take Elfboy 3 hours to cross it swimming?
Because I somehow think it would make sense for him to be shot while swimming, if it's supposed to make the river impossible to cross...
Maybe he reached the other shore, and then the two of them started crossing back together, and then someone was shot?
Btw, I don't think there will be any shooting next page... I somehow believe it will happen only on Monday's page.

Yeeeeah I'm guessing it's elfboy that's going to be the sacrifice that seals the waters, not Jeanne. He's too...well-placed.
And then Jeanne is left. Alone. To starve to death on the shore. Takes an awful long time for someone to die when they have an ample supply of water... and God knows, Diego would have listened for every last moment.
I wonder if - should the above prove to be true - if this explains how/why Jeanne's ghost cannot move on yet apparently cross the Waters where others cannot. She died and has continued to exist on the shore, the edge of things, and thus can cross to either side but cannot leave it.

No, you know what? I think he reaches the shore. He takes Jeanne in his arms, they swim across to the other side, and just before Jeanne gets out of the water, Elfboy gets shot by Steadman. Just to be cruel. And Jeanne? She drowns herself in Annan Waters. And...I don't get this. As in, the time skips? Were the shows that the robot showed in order, or were they jumbled up? Why on earth did Jeanne get so angry about Diego mentioning him? What the hell? I think there's more to this story to be told, guys. Don't rule this whole flashback arc out on Friday yet... Beautiful art as always. There's something really heartbreaking about Jeanne's face in the fifth...image there. A foreshadowing of something about to happen is in her nervous smile and eyebrows. I'm going to shield my eyes on Friday...but not really.

Keep in mind whatever happens happens 3 hours after Jeanne is lowered down. There are continuity breaks on this page. Check the face of Young's watch on this page. Maybe its just REALLY deep and it took 3 hours to lower Jeanne to the bottom? OR Young hit the brandy a bit too hard this evening and he misspoke? OR, yeah, its just a screw up. ;D

Since we're talking about the song, too, might as well dump all the lyrics here: Oh, Annan Water's wondrous deep And my love Ann is wondrous bonnie I'm loathe that she should wet her feet Because I love her best of any Go saddle for me the bonny grey mare Go saddle her and make her ready For I must cross the stream tonight Or never more I'll see my lady He's ridden over field and fen O'er moor and moss and many's the mire But the spurs of steel were sore to bite Sparks from the mare's hoofs flew like fire Oh, the mare flew over moor and moss And when she's reached the Annan Waters She couldn't have ridden a furlong more Had a thousand whips been laid upon her And woe betide you, Annan Waters By night you are a gloomy river And over you I'll build a bridge That never more true love can sever Oh, Boatman put off your boat Put off your boat for golden money For I must cross the stream tonight Or never more I'll see my lady Oh, the sides are steep, the waters deep From bank to brae, the water's pouring And the bonny grey mare she sweats for fear She stands to hear the water roaring And he has tried to swim the stream And he swam on, both strong and steady But the river was deep and strength did fail And never more he'll see his lady Oh woe betide the willow wand And woe betide the bush and briar For they broke beneath my true love's hand When strength did fail and limbs did tire And woe betide you, Annan Waters By night you are a gloomy river And over you I'll build a bridge That never more true love can sever That never more true love can sever That never more true love can sever www.youtube.com/watch?v=joj4BqEfhis
