I wonder where Jack is sleeping everything off? Back in his bunk? In the Court "jail" if there is one? In Annie or Kat's bunk?! In this condition? I'd bet on the Court's health unit. With some biometrical toys on him, but probably without any intrusive crap... if only because no one knows what can make things worse. Is she holding a syringe, or a screwdriver? To me, this looks like a typical screwdriver handle. Besides, the sting would be too long for a typical syringe. And Kat so far played a lot with mechanics, but never was mentioned as a biologist or nurse. The closest was her science fair entry with crystallization... heh, heh. Alas, my dreams are doomed to failure, because of course she's been growing it out since before chapter 24 and it really would be that length now. Sigh. Like this and this?

My second (and I believe more likely) thought is that it probably refers to the bad (as in evil) start of Gunnerkrigg Court, the revelations of which affected negatively Kat's disposition. That seems the most likely possibility to me as well.

Ok so prediction: In this chapter Kat will question her friendship with Annie. Or maybe living in the Court.

Nah if she leaves the court she won't get to hang around Jack anymore which is just ridiculous.

I wonder if this chapter is going to be about the start of a new school year, in which Kat gets mad at a teacher and tells him something like, "Well why don't you just go throw your sweatheart in a ditch?!" Then she turns all emo and moody all the time and starts getting detention a lot. I think it would be funny, because that's pretty much how I acted in school.. :/

The current school year should actually be drawing to a close within the next few chapters, so probably not. It'd be weird if it skipped school ending and all of summer break.
Edit: Though as soon as I posted, I realized you might be talking about the start of the first year at Gunnerkrigg court, which we haven't actually seen. Antimony arrived half way through, so there could be flash backs to what was going on with Kat during that time. I doubt it, though, due to the length of Kat's hair on the cover.

I wonder if it might be referring not to a start as in a beginning, but to a start as in a scare?

Yes, precisely like that and that. It is indeed appropriate hair for the timeline. -decisive nod-

Perhaps this chapter will be about whatever Kat does by herself while Annie is undergoing punishment.
