Fistful of Annie beat down in three... two... one...
(Seriously, "I'll carry you"? Jack was always a smooth dude, what the hell is he going on about now?)

"Forget about him" -- the three words that automatically make anyone who says them into a villain.
Along with "Embrace your anger," I suppose.

I guess this means he was acting with good (albiet misguided) intentions. Not so evil after all, then. Perhaps people shouldn't be so quick to judge? No, surely not

Okay; Jack has gone back to being a Magnificent Bastard. An evil Magnificent Bastard, mind you, but a Magnificent Bastard.
On the other hand, I expect that Monday's comic will show Ludicrous Amounts of Violence by Annie against Jack...

I conclude that sometime very soon, Jack will be feasting on some delicious asphalt.

I wonder what would happen if Annie just smashes one or more of those little wall doohickeys.
Also: I'm not clear on just what Jack's plan is here. Does he think that the Court will ignore him and let him walk out, just because he's bound Rey and partially separated him him his body?

I think Annie is gonna have a little word with Anja about computer security at some point in the not-so-distant future.

Guess this is one of the disadvantages with getting all your news from the "Permanent Record".

No, surely not I'm not sure where you're getting that from. His plan of escape was to throw Reynardine under the proverbial bus, believing that the Court officials would be more interested in screwing with Reynardine than screwing with him.

Part of me is hating Jack for being a jerk, but part of me is loving Jack for being a psychotic jerk... I feel so conflicted

I think Annie is gonna have a little word with Anja about computer security at some point in the not-so-distant future. Most likely along the lines of “How could you have thought of subjecting someone to that?!” and then being reminded that Rey’s a killer.

This isn't Anja's program: Jack changed the program to make it cause Reynardine pain. You saw Anja's program in use before, and it didn't cause pain.

Mostly I'm getting that from panel 5, in which he directly states that he believes he is doing her a favor. This was an outcome predicted in the last thread, I think.

The only favor he thinks he's doing her is that now she can forget about him. Something that she doesn't want to do. Which means he's not doing her a favor. The outcome predicted in the last thread was that Jack sought to kill or neutralize Reynardine because Reynardine is an evil killer and is a threat to Annie, and Jack is a superhero for being the only one to deal with the supreme threat that Reynarine posed, or something similar. That is very much not what Jack is saying here.

Based on what I’ve seen on this page, everything he’s doing is what he thinks is a good thing to do. In his mind, this is all his way of helping Annie and he thinks that Annie will thank him for it... Which I don’t really get, seeing as he’s seen them on friendly terms, rather than the simple “I’m stuck with the demon who tried to kill me” attitude.

A different way would be: Jack has completely lost his moral compass. He believes whatever he does is absolutely justified. He barely has any regards for anybody else but him, and doesn't have the hint of an idea that anyone in their right mind could possibly disagree with him. He doesn't even think about what kind of consequences his actions might have to others.. That is grade A psychopath villain material right there.

Jack -comes right out and says- that he's doing this to get the Court officials off his own trail and occupy them with dealing with Rey while he goes and menaces Zimmy. He's only saying "I'm doing you a favor" to try (in vain) to sell it to Annie as something good... but he readily states that what he is doing, he's doing for his OWN good. It's right there in the text.

No, see, even if what he's trying to do isn't actually something Annie wants or would consider a favor, when he did it he believed it was, which implies that he's not just doing it to be a total bastard. So good intentions, but misguided. I never said the end result was good, mind. ...Also, if he's not going for some heroic angle, why's he offering to carry her across the lake ?

I was thinking more along the lines of "Have you ever heard anything of passwords, firewalls and encryptions?". That program clearly is no toy, that should be openly available to just anyone.

Jeese people. Violence is not the answer. Sure, give him a hard slap in the face in the off chance that it may shock him enough to knock some sense into him. But not a beatdown. What's that gonna achieve?
Besides, it's out of character for Annie. Just because she has an angry face, does not mean she's gonna turn violent. Certainly not when she has a friend to save.

I don't agree that his intentions were good, at least for anyone but himself. I believe that his intentions were completely selfish and he's only trying to sway Annie by pitching it as a favor. I don't for a second think he thinks he's actually doing her a favor, because as avurai pointed out, Jack's already observed that Annie and Rey are close. I explained this more in the post just above your last one, which I think you hadn't read yet when you posted the one just now.

I've already mentioned trying to smash one or more of the little wall bugs. What are your other thoughts?

That’s a great point. I don’t think that it should be floating around in the Court’s database. If it’s that easy to hack into, then their most important data should be kept somewhere where only the people who created it even know it exists.

Even if it was actually a selfish action, I don't think he was expecting Annie to object, or he wouldn't be trying to sell it in such a dumb way. I mean if he really thought Rey and Annie were close, he probably wouldn't be saying things like 'just leave him, let's get out of here and continue our adventures'. Edit: I was thinking more along the lines of "Have you ever heard anything of passwords, firewalls and encryptions?". That program clearly is no toy, that should be openly available to just anyone. That’s a great point. I don’t think that it should be floating around in the Court’s database. If it’s that easy to hack into, then their most important data should be kept somewhere where only the people who created it even know it exists. You know, this makes the fact that the data concerning two houses with 'special' kids was actually well-enough protected to deter Jack even more interesting. If the court doesn't consider information about a giant power plant with potential applications as a death ray, or access to binding programs on the etheric mainframe sensitive enough to justify actual protection, what could possibly be in the Chester data files that does?
