I'm waiting to see a bit more parallel between Annie's control over Rey due to owning his body, and Coyote's control over Ys due to... owning his heart? I guess? Maybe Coyote is flaunting his control in order to remind Annie of hers, or to draw attention to it later.

Well, Coyote actually pretty much owns Yssy's 'body' as well. he gave him his tree body (I've always drawn an interesting paralell from this to his "the trees are my bones" lines), and now Yssy is pretty much dependent on it. But yeah, I'm surprised at the inexistence of Coyote/Ysengrim slashfic out there (oohgodnowthati'vesaidititwillexistI'MSORRYINTERNET)

It's also true that in the beginning, Rey was pretty hostile towards Annie; so indeed, Ysy will perhaps get nicer as well. Or rather Renard was hostile towards everyone due to being in foul mood because of being trapped. And now that Coyote began to teach her, for Ysengrin she's not an "outsider", or at least not fully.

Especially in the light of how she saw Ys earlier. Yeah, he still had a head large enough to snap her arm clean off, but she was in a position of strength there. Or at least in the position of a human catching a wounded and trapped animal. Who, in response to kindness snapped out... Yes, it's that postion-of-strength thing. Basically, she saw his weakness. And for a creature in the forest, "weak" and "prey" are synonyms. So naturally he had to show "not THAT weak".

...quoi?
"On the eighth day, the good creator pulled a bone from Man’s hip and said, 'And now I shall make Man a hip flask, so that he can fill it with something to keep him warm at night, a trusted companion to ease his troubled mind. I shall call this friend Magic Elixir.' The man later renamed the elixir to something else."
