Maybe this was said before. Maybe I'm duplicating a "discovery" from years ago. But this blew my mind. Anya wears Annie's hairclip! And somehow I now notice that Annie's name is partly homage to Surma's best friend. My, I wonder how I never linked both names..... For the saga of the hairclip, and other mysteries see: Category:Mysteries#The_blue_hairclip(might need updating)

Of course, given Ether!Annie can go through solid walls (see Spring Heeled, page 706), one wonders why those would be effective anyway =P The real countermeasure would be the ward they ended up placing on her that Rey destroyed and limited her Etheric abilities.

And somehow I now notice that Annie's name is partly homage to Surma's best friend. My, I wonder how I never linked both names..... Keen observation now go read 'the stone' and be even more intrigued... Also, don't worry about 'been said before', as someone else mentioned before: thia thread is about what *you* noticed on reread. (And frankly, there are too many pages to check for double posts) Hmmmm... yes, saw that headclip. Although I find it greener, but it's possible it might be the same one. Maybe this was said before. Maybe I'm duplicating a "discovery" from years ago. But this blew my mind. Anya wears Annie's hairclip! And somehow I now notice that Annie's name is partly homage to Surma's best friend. For the saga of the hairclip, and other mysteries see: Category:Mysteries#The_blue_hairclip(might need updating) Well, I sincerely doubt Surma's hairband is the same hairclip. Surma has a lot of bushy hair, and the clip shows in both sides. Also, it looks a lot larger. So, I think that is more like a scrounchie (sp?) or hairband, rather than a clip. Man, I remember I put together a pretty great headcanon for the Saga of the Hairclip somewhere... found it Hope you enjoy it. Nice, crazy headcanon. But it's quite..... convoluted. So, sadly I'll leave this hairclip only in Anya's and Annie's hair in my headcanon.

when Jones receives the distress call from Anthony , the same ensign appears on her phone as on the lapels here A cool thing I never noticed on reread.

Well, I do actually think that Jones might have had the same hairclip, at least. The idea that this one freakin' hairclip was passed down at least 3 generations, combined with its recent adventure in the Annan Waters, is exactly what inspired my absurdly convoluted backstory. I just really enjoy giving huge, convoluted stories to things which aren't very noticeable, yet clearly have a history of some sort.

Wait until in one of the last chapters the hairclip is sent back in time to 1904, where Edward Jones finds it and gifts it to a young woman named Emma (that he is probably smitten with).

More like "things that only bothered me on reread" in this case: Lindsey is supposed to protect the students, but when she attacks the cruise ship, she smashes its glass roof despite people being under it. I guess the purpose was to let rain reach Zimmy, but look at the size of these shards, it's mere luck no one was injured or killed!

Opened the print version for the first time in a while today, noticed that on page 13 the Tic-Toc seems to have some sort of seam on it's neck. Huh. (I miss the Tic-Tocs...)

Shadow 2 startles a spider (complete with a tiny speech bubble containing only an exclamation mark) when communicating for the first time with Annie. What makes this more interesting is the fact, that spiders seem to be the only regular (not test subject) animals we have ever seen or heard of in the Court (although there must be something the spiders eat). It occasionally popped up in dialogue as well. There are no rats in the Court, only plenty of spiders.

(although there must be something the spiders eat). We have confirmation that flies and ants do exist in/at the Court. And pidgeons of course.

I doubt they have spiders big enough to eat pigeons (except in Zimmingham all bets are off)

You're right fish, I forgot about all of these.
Still the thing with the rats gives off some strange vibe.

And they don't normally eat adult birds, although part of their name derives from an engraving of one eating a hummingbird - which is rather smaller than an adult pigeon.

Coyotes are native to North America and generally only bend reality in rather miniscule amounts, and yet!

Minotaurs aren't native to Britain either and yet one lives in the Court.

Also, of all the questions Tom wrote under the page, has the first one, "how did Zimmy know Reynardine was more than a toy?" ever been answered? Zimms is sensitive to ether and Rey certainly has an etheric side to him... maybe she could sense they toy had some odd ether-component, without knowing what it was specifically?

Zimms is sensitive to ether and Rey certainly has an etheric side to him... maybe she could sense they toy had some odd ether-component, without knowing what it was specifically? That's what I was thinking, except I'd leave out the "without knowing what it was" part. She says, " Come on out--I know you're in there." So even if she didn't know Reynardine personally before this point, she at least knows that the toy is inhabited by some intelligent being. (Though that might be partly deduced from the fact that he's been sneaking into the exhibit hall and intentionally ruining people's science projects.) And if she can look at Kat and see this, what's to say she couldn't look at Annie's toy and see this?

You are right, I was basically thinking the same, but then I scratched my head and asked myself, "so why didn't Annie notice anything?". But of course, this was before Annie had learned to peer into the Ether at all. Nowadays she probably would have seen Rey inside the toy right away.

Somehow I never noticed this before: when Smitty goes into the forest with Parley to be introduced as the new Court medium, Jones comes with them! You can see her in the background of a few pages. But nobody ever acknowledges or even mentions her--not ParSmits, not Annie, and not even Coyote. Now I have this mental image of Jones standing all night in the middle of the wild after-party, poker-faced, just watching. Somebody with better image editing skills than me should make that happen.

In the case of the disruptor, I don't think it's a matter of learning. The robots Donald deactivated were court robots, while the ones Kat failed to disrupt were Seraphs. I guess the intention was exactly to imply their mechanisms are different from regular robots. Indeed, Kat later learns of the Seraphs' impossible coding and that they're built almost like golems. The "regular" simpler robots were actually build by the Seraphs themselves, because even them couldn't repair Diego's designs
