I thought the idea that Jones was attempting to get Smitty to glitch the sim into being more accurate was an interesting concept.
And at first, I balked at the interpretation that the Court was "grown" in the literal sense, but then I remembered what was said about the Tic Toc that was buried in the far shore of the Annan. If the picture shown during Ysengrin's explanation in Ch 14 is literal, then it would seem almost like Diego developed some technology that reproduces when exposed to etheric energy imbued land... which would be the whole area since the Court sprung up in the middle of the wood.
Edit: and this gives me other thoughts that I'm going to go stick in the Wild Spec thread...

The greatest thing that surprises me about Diego being here is that it implies that the court did not stay friendly with the forest very long. I had assumed that the forest and court did not break apart until after at least a generation, but if Diego is there, that means that the founding of court and the split from Gillie wood happened in a very short time frame.

Diego seems to be a much more important person than I originally thought. I wouldn't be surprised now if he were Minister of Robotics or an equivalent position.

Maybe he's here to glitch the simulation in exactly such a way that it becomes an accurate historical record, thus revealing what the Seed Bismuth that started the Court actually was. Not necessarily about Seed, but it looks either such an experiment, or... I was already wondering where the heck the choclates came from anyway, but seriously Jones, a single red rose? Are you trying to make Parley jealous? I'd guess that she wants Smit to use that rose for something. But then I'm wrong more often than not. And there's two more roses. One for each apprentice? Then it's not only a lesson, but also little "so, now you know..." ritual of initiation and/or remembrance. Alternatively, three roses for three humans. There's five flowers, all right. Except maybe the glitch only occurs after they've turned to leave so we find out long before they do. You know, for dramatic effect. And since when Tom gave us spoilers unnecessary for the plot? Probably, we'll going to have at least as much questions as they, just for good sport.

A thought. The guy in the second frame could be Diego. But maybe his likeness was just used as a model to make the simulation (like they do in video games), rather than him actually having been there?

Another thought:
1. Coyote said that he, Ysengrin and Reynardine showed up and created the Annan waters, after he thought the humans wanted to take over the woods.
2. According to this hologram, the formulation of the Court happened before Coyote appeared. Diego is present.
3. Jeanne's ghost currently stands at the Annan waters. Diego lived when Jeanne lived and died.
So unless Jeanne's ghost can move from place to place, then the formulation of the Court, Coyote's (and Reynardine's) arrival, the creation of the Annan waters and Jeanne's death all occurred (in that order) while Diego was an adult (within a fairly short time period), a long time ago.

Unless, as Bisected8 said, it's an ancestor of Diego, or that the figures in the sim are "artistic renditions" using the faces of people they had on hand at the time the sim was made.

Well, bisected8 summed it up pretty well; I imagine establishing an institution for the purpose of doing exactly what the Woods hate would sour relations pretty quickly. Regarding the theory that Andrew was brought in to reveal what the bismuth was, I don't think his powers would work in a recording. Remember that the Jupiter Moon Martian sim was completely interactive and would already respond to external stimuli, whereas a recording wouldn't. Though that would definitely suck if his powers worked on movies. What if he tried watching Transformers 2?

What if he tried watching Transformers 2? Then I would imagine, if his powers of banishing chaos would work, the movie would cease to have ever been made.

Yes, Smitty's power to create order out of chaos and Michael Bay's power to create chaos out of... well, anything, would be very similar to the meeting of the Unstoppable Force and the Immovable Object.
