I really doubt she'd want Rey along for something like this. She's embarassed enough, as it is.

It was pretty obvious from mort's previous interactions ( blushing and stammering) that he had a crush. Its prob something Rey revealed that upset Annie rather then anything revealed by Anja. Annie's reaction implies a social impropriety or a trick/trap rather then anything immanently dangerous. Its stated that Annie was unaware of the romantic connotation of the gift before Anja. So her anger may be a conclusion reached by some combination of what rey and anja stated. The only explanation I can think of is the blinker allows the giver and recipient inside each other's mind. The holder also has the ability to " spy" if the target is unguarded but is also open to the giver. Mort gave the stone with no condition and instruction so he never needed to worry about Annie peeking on him. But the implied intimacy of an open door to ones mind is not a good thing for a girl that likes her secrets (as annie does) when the giver is an eavesdropper like mort. I'm not sure this is a good idea for a gift between couples =P but the implicit statement of absolute trust would be priceless. Since Donald can't actively use the stone... the ability needs to be passively enacted by the act of "giving" the stone by intent. While Muut was the physical "giver" the intent was from Mort. Weather mort availing himself (or even aware) of spying capacity of the stone is unknown. Annie's indignation would be justified if he was.

The only explanation I can think of is the blinker allows the giver and recipient inside each other's mind. Annie's indignation would be justified if he was. That makes a lot of sense in hindisght... I mean, who wouldn't want a way to know how that "special person" feels about you? If Mort has a crush on Annie, it would be very much on his interest to know if he has a chance or not. Either way, when does "indignation" needs to be justified? It's like telling a girl someone read her diary, she'll be angry no matter what, and the accused reader will have to put the world upside-down to prove his innocence. By the same logic, Annie seems SO convinced that Mort was spying on her through the blinker that she won't believe that: 1) Mort had no idea of the spying capabilities 2)Mort had no idea of the romantic significance... yet this one can be overlooked on the basis that traditional romantic gifts are given on several non-romantic occasions. i.e. flowers: they have a romantic gift meaning, yet you bring flowers to someone on a hospital, or when you go to a funeral, or when you visit your loved ones grave on a cemetery.

Terribly sorry, chaps, but the spying theories have been shot down.

Terribly sorry, chaps, but the spying theories have been shot down. Did anyone tell Annie that, though? Remember: Annie's knowledge of blinker stones is pretty equal to our own.

I too wouldn't expect such a harsh reaction from Annie. I think poor Mort is about to be chewed out in the worst way- he does not deserve it, no sir.

Annies statement is she feels pranked or a joke was made at her expense. Unless she decides Mort's romantic advance is a long delayed joke meant to embarrass her, its unlikely its the root of her anger. (The closest analogy I can think of is: A single girl receiving roses on valentines day with a card that reads "from your mom" or "from your dog". A cruel way to highlight her single status and that does NOT sound like Mort.)
Tom has stated clearly Annie is NOT being spied on by Mort though the stone. That leaves some kind of exposure to danger/inconvenience when Annie uses the blinker. Its been repeatedly noted that all things on the material plane are black/white when viewed from the stone. Ray and guillet woods gain color when they also project into the ethereal plane. From the relative volume of activity its easy to see that creatures of the woods and ethereal creatures have an easier time entering this level of existence. Annie may be exposed to a different level of manipulation through the blinker if she had done so without the guidance of Anja and warnings from Rey. This may be a "thanks for giving me a mind bomb without telling what it is!" conversation.

Terribly sorry, chaps, but the spying theories have been shot down. Interestingly, though, he didn't answer your question, which I thought was a better one than mine. I was face-palming for assuming first and asking questions later with respect to the recipient of Annie's rage. Still, comforting to know that the blinker stone isn't some shot-down albatross. Ben

I think Kat's going to try to defend Mort, Annie chews her out just as badly, Kat tells Annie to lighten up, a concensus is reached, everyone goes away with a bittersweet feeling.
And then Boxbot comes out and confesses it's romantic feelings for Robox and the two sorta live happily ever after. Not everyone is pleased...

Boxbot/Robox 'shipping, is this simultaneously the most terrible and lovable thing ever?

what if Kat and Mort (with Anja collaboration are trying to make a little joke to Annie and she just caught on with them? just look at Mort and Kat in the fifth panel, the way they exchange a look and how Mort try to stay serious sound casual, it is obvious that they are trying to hide something.
It is the only explanation that would kinda make sense, because even if Annie thought that Mort was spying on her or she had exception with the romantic meaning of the blinker stone I think it wold be a little out of character for her to react so harshly without first hear Mort's side of things.

Boxbot/Robox 'shipping, is this simultaneously the most terrible and lovable thing ever? I hadn't thought about the two of them falling in love. From the start it seemed to me that the two were destined to determine the better robot in an ultimate showdown that would shake the foundations of all existence. For all the hate he receives, I think boxbot should have at least one moment in the sun before the end. Who knows, maybe boxbot attaches a red rag to his body and sneaks out at night into the Court fighting crime and such with his bare hands.

Hmm. I wonder if Annie suddenly feels that Mort is not who he appears to be, but rather someone else in disguise!
